4 Kid Favorites - A Pup Named Scooby-Doo Release Date: September 27, 2011
I’m one day late, but happy 35th anniversary to my personal favorite incarnation of the entire Scooby-Doo! franchise, A Pup Named Scooby-Doo. It fully embraces the upbeat, goofy fun that classic Scooby-Doo stands for, even moreso than the original series, by not even pretending to take itself seriously. It’s just pure feel-good comfort. For those who disagree with me by saying that Mystery Incorporated deserves the honor of being the best Scooby series,...well, I’m not gonna say you’re wrong, but I definitely don’t see where you’re coming from.
As my belated way of honoring the anniversary, here is a showcase of the opening, menus, and trailers for all four of the show’s volume DVD releases that I currently own, with my copies being bundled together in one of the many 4 Kid Favorites sets that Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has released as a means of repackaging their old unsold discs over the years.
OPENING FOR EACH OF THE FOUR DISCS:
1.) FBI warning
2.) Warner Bros. Home Video logo (1996-2017)
3.) DVD menu
TRAILERS (included on Volumes 3 and 4 only, with both discs having the exact same batch due to them being originally released on the same day; thus, the trailers below are ripped from Volume 3):
1.) Harry and His Bucketful of Dinosaurs: Volume 1 DVD promo
2.) Krypto the Superdog: Volume 1 DVD promo
3.) Scooby-Doo!: Pirates Ahoy - “Coming Soon Exclusively to DVD” teaser trailer
4.) Toot and Puddle: I’ll Be Home for Christmas - “Coming Soon Only on DVD” teaser trailer
5.) Tom & Jerry: Shiver Me Whiskers - “Coming Soon Exclusively to DVD” teaser trailer (I always found it amusing that two different pirate-themed direct-to-DVD movies featuring classic Hanna-Barbera characters were released around the same time; I wonder if that was intentional)
Gotta say: I’m pretty disappointed by the downgrade in the quality of the menus from Volumes 1 and 2 to Volumes 3 and 4. The first two volumes had a neat little animation of Scooby bopping to the show’s theme song on the main menu, with his movements being in tandem with the sound effects. It’s nothing elaborate, but still a cute little touch. The two volumes succeeding it, however, had static main menus to match the other menus on the discs, yet Warner Bros. couldn’t bother to find a copy of the theme song that lacked the sound effects from the show’s intro. Not even nearly as drastic of a downgrade as the one between most 2000s and early 2010s Warner Bros. DVDs of television shows and most late 2010s and 2020s Warner Bros. DVDs of those same programs, but still a disappointment regardless.
I just realized that this is the first time I’ve ever covered any DVD releases of a Hanna-Barbera show on the channel. Hopefully, I can tackle more of them soon. Don’t worry: I still plan to cover the live-action Disney shows in a future series of videos. I’m just burnt out on covering Disney stuff right now, so I want to make some anniversary videos for specific Nickelodeon and Warner Bros.-owned shows similar to this one and the My Life as a Teenage Robot DVD showcase video that I did last month to keep this channel active until I find the motivation to finish the “Disney Television Show DVD Overview” series of videos.
