Bobby Fischer was a record-setting chess master who became the youngest player to win the U.S. Chess Championship at 14, and the first American-born player to win the World Chess Championship.
Bobby Fischer was born on March 9, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois. Fischer first learned the game of chess at age 6 and eventually became the youngest international grand master at the age of 15. In 1972, he became the first American-born world chess champion after defeating Boris Spassky. An eccentric genius, who was believed to have an I.Q. of 181, Fischer became known for his controversial public remarks in his later years. He was granted Icelandic citizenship in 2005, following legal trouble with the United States. He died on January 17, 2008.
Early Life
Robert James Fischer was born in Chicago, Illinois, on March 9, 1943. Fischer's parents divorced when he was a toddler, and he began learning chess at the age of 6 after his older sister Joan bought him a chess set. He continued to hone his skills as a youngster at the Brooklyn Chess Club and Manhattan Chess Club. Fischer had a strained relationship with his mother, who supported his chess endeavors, but preferred that he pursue other areas of interest.
A brilliant, highly competitive player who lost himself in the game, Fischer earned a place in the record books at age 14 when he became the youngest player to win the U.S. Chess Championship. Then in 1958, at 15, he became the youngest international grand master in history by winning the related tournament in Portoroz, Yugoslavia (now Slovenia).
Match of the Century
During the early 1960s, Fischer continued to be involved in U.S. and world championship matches, but was also making a name for himself with his erratic, paranoid commentary. After having a 20-game winning streak in the early 1970s, Fischer once again made chess history in 1972 with his defeat of the Soviet Union's Boris Spassky at the Reykjavik, Iceland world championships, thus marking the first time an American chess player had won the title. Fischer's defeat of a Soviet opponent, which became known as the "Match of the Century," took on iconic proportions in the midst of the Cold War and was seen as a symbolic victory of democracy over Communism. Fischer's historic win also made chess a popular game in the United States.

@@AM-sp6je No... I don't see the difference. You can say ever to, to ever, that ever stroll/strolled. The meaning is the same. The tense is different, but nobody cares about chess tense. You can argue either way that chess is great history and that we analyze these games to celebrate great games that were played, or you can argue that chess never dies and thus the tense would be present. @skyhighvenus6311
@skyhighvenus6311 6 месяцев назад
Actually, after Qh1, Ng4 check wins immediately no matter where the king goes. King can only go to e1, f1, g1 or g2. 1) If kf1, then Nxf3 with a brutal discovery check coming. If say white tries a counterplay with Ne2, then best play goes Nfxh2 check, Ke1 Qf2 check, Kd1 Nf3 and the white knight will be lost because Ne3 is coming with a devasting attack still on going. 2) If Ke1, then best play goes Qe3 check. If bishop or Knight blocks, then Nc2 check, followed by Nf2 check winning the queen. 3) If Kg2, then mate in 3 with Qxf3 check, Kh3, Ng2 check, Kh4, Qg4 mate. 4) If Kg1, then Qe3 check, followed by Qxf3 check with same mating pattern as scenario 3. But you made your point. it would have been nice if Agadmator analyzed Qh1.

Thank you agamator. I watch these chess videos every night before I sleep without skipping as I have no one to talk to or think about. I found your channel 3 years back and this has become a daily routine. Currently , my financial situation is not that great to make a donation to your channel although I really really wanted to. One day, I will make it. Lots of love ❤️. Keep up with these chess videos.

Tal move? Like an unsound sacrifice? :D

@ Jordan Nexhip, don't be a jerk. Besides, Tal would smash you any day of the week. Stop acting like you're in the same category as Tal or any GM for that matter.
@JordanNexhip

I wasn't trying to be a jerk... I was referring to one of Tal's quotes where he himself says that his sacrifices are unsound. Just an apology please and we'll forget about this :)
@MrSupernova111
@MrSupernova111 6 лет назад
@ Jordan Nexhip, Tal's moves were unsound to who? What you neglect is that he was good enough to be World Champion in an era of very tough competition. By your standards no world champion is good enough as none of them can defeat today's chess engines - not even Magnus. Again, stop acting so smug and discreting Tal simply because you have access to a computer that tells you what to play next.

Ng4 picks up the bishop, and then the queen
@francisjirons
@francisjirons 3 года назад
@@bilzebor8457 if Nd4* picks up the bishop, then the Queen picks up the Knight on f3. Then if you trade queens, Ne3 picks up c4. White is down two pawns but it's a rook and a knight against a bishop and a knight, and that is nowhere near winning for black. If black declines the trade, the white queen picks up the Knight. Agadmator's hypotetical line for black is totally wrong.
@bilzebor8457
@bilzebor8457 3 года назад
@@francisjirons what do you do with white after Ng4?
@kuchuyobenai9461
@kuchuyobenai9461 3 года назад
@Francis J. Irons after black goes Ng4 (not typo) the only square for white king to move where it still defends the Bishop is g2, which blocks whites queen on h1. Then Nd4 takes and whites king can’t take back because blacks queen protects the knight.
@bilzebor8457
@bilzebor8457 3 года назад
@@kuchuyobenai9461 yes exactly, and if you move away from the bishop you lose it and after a while you're gonna have to give up your queen to survive

knight to g4 check will still win the bishop
@skyhighvenus6311
@skyhighvenus6311 6 месяцев назад

Could you please do a video on Kasparov v Karpov - Seville 1987 - Game 24... must win game for Kasparov in order to retain WC title? I think it had only happened once before that someone had to win the last game to be WC. Also, it is a game that Kasparov played very much the way Karpov would. Not a spectacular game... but spectacularly important and also relatively uncovered anywhere on RU-vid. Thanks! #suggestion
