Awesome review! Have five of the Shamans, 3 are exclusives with M4, Cruwear and CTS-XHP blades and 2 are S30V blade. They are great knives, thanks for sharing!
I have a bunch of Spydercos, mostly PM2s and Para3s, all on washers, and guess what? I FORGET they are on washers! Properly adjusted and lubricated, washers can produce flipping action that rivals the best bearing actions.
I handled a Shaman at an outdoors store a few months back and fell in love. I will own one one day! (And hopefully it comes in an equally impressive plastic sleeve!)
I've always liked the shaman and if there were a left handed version I'd have gotten one a long time ago. Thanks for showcasing it though, I like seeing it always.
@@SharpenedBlade0, it's too difficult for me to pinch that lock confidently. I've got the lefty PM2 and Love it, but I tried that shaman in a surplus shop and unfortunately wasn't a good fit. Maybe someday they'll explore more lefty models, cause I dig it otherwise.
Ah! I hear ya man, that makes total sense. Hopefully they will, it’s a popular model so it would make sense for them to make a lefty version at some point.
Without looking, I bet I know… you can front flip it! Is THAT what is such a surprise about the Shaman? I discovered that on my own, before I saw a video that described it. Apparently, it was not an accident!
Great first impression, the Manix and shaman are there only two Spyderco knives that caught my attention. Look like great folders need to get one in hand to try them out though. Thanks for the look see and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable
The Shaman has taken over the top spot in my list of favorite knives. It dethroned my old PM2 in S110V. I was disappointed initially when I first got it. That was right after I got out of the hospital. I almost sold it but decided otherwise. I didn't want to just give up on it. I took it apart, cleaned everything and lubricated the pivot and pivot washers. Bingo! It dropped shut. The weight used to bother me but when I handle either of my PM2s now, they feel flimsy. The Shaman just feels solid.
I considered selling it too, but like you I didn’t give up on it, I’m really enjoying it now. I bought my first PM2 over the weekend and now you’ve got me paranoid that I won’t like it 😂
Nice 👍🏻 I bought 2 Shaman’s last year. The bhq micarta m4 satin and a dlc. Never held one before that, was buying pm2’s and para3’s, native’s etc. Bit the shaman is the 🐝 knees.
It took me a while to finally check out a Shaman but I’m glad I did. I’m like you, I only had PM2s and Para 3s before this. I really like how much the Shaman fills the hand, it’s very comfy. It’s definitely the bee’s knees 😂
My Shaman is my favorite, and most expensive, knife (when you include the cost of the custom micarta scales I put on it). And yes, most definitely runs on washers. My 2 cents (or nickel Canadian) are to spend all day tomorrow just flicking the heck out of it. Then Sunday apply some pivot lube and continue the heck flicking. Mine did not have any thread locker, but just a little heat to the head of a screw should soften even red loctite right up. Also, I believe that the Shaman is probably the most customizable knife in the world because of all of the aftermarket stuff available for them.
And personally, I wish all knives came in a plain box and plastic sleeve like spyderco's do - I would rather the cost of fancy pouches and boxes be spent in improved production of the knife.
That’s a fair point, I wouldn’t mind all knives coming in a plastic sleeve like this one (it really is a nice feeling sleeve 😂). Good advice, I’ll flick the heck out of it and put some lube on it. I checked the screws on it and no loctite was used, whew!
Congrats..knife collection is not complete without a Shaman...I did a video a couple years ago showing the ability of front flipping it and when I realized it...I was just more in love with it...great knaf made on earth to boot...🔪😁🇺🇸🙏🏻🤺🤺🤺🤺🤺
I agree! It’s like that on a few of their knives. I guess we could get used to moving our fingers out of the way, but why make a design choice like that with a compression lock?
Sharp Dressed Knives makes awesome scales, I’ve gotten some from them before. Flytanium makes great scales. Metonboss and Ripps Garage Tech are also popular choices.
I wouldn’t say it’s a good buy necessarily. When I got it it was more of a “this version is available and I’ve always wanted to try a Shaman” type of thing 😂 Plus I knew I was going to change the scales on it anyways so the G10 was a good option for that. There are definitely lots of steel options but S30v is perfectly fine for any cutting tasks I’ll need to do.
