If they lived in the waterfall the kids would never have learned how to live quietly. They had to prepare their kids for the future.

This was the only movie at the cinemas that I've been to where I intentionally did NOT buy food knowing it was mostly a silent movie. I'm already not a fan of eating during quiet scenes in action movies etc. but here we had a 'quiet' movie where any sound the audience would make would be amplified.

Tyler Neely Lol. Geez. I didn't care too much when people were trying to eat (though I wished they were quieter sometimes), but there were people behind me that were openly talking nonstop (not a whisper at all) and repeatedly saying "this isn't even scary" but then saying things that obviously let you know they weren't paying attention to understand what was going on. I had to move up (and I hoped it didn't offend them).
@mariesummers.
@mariesummers. 6 лет назад
SenorPredo - Minecraft Coasters - Not sure if you meant your comment rudely or if your tone was in jest, but I never said I felt bad for moving (and I wouldn't really call someone a p*ssy over that. That's just unnecessary). I said I hoped I hadn't offended them, because in general, I like to imagine they didn't take it as me being passive aggressive as opposed to just moving. If they were offended, I can't do anything about that and wouldn't feel bad, but I hope they weren't, so their good time wasn't messed up. There was no issue of "be walked on versus stand up for myself". I maturely decided that since I could move up, I would, instead of disrupting someone else's day when I could easily enjoy the movie from somewhere else with no real inconvenience. Why bother doing something that stops other people having fun when I don't have to? Especially since I came to watch a movie- not potentially start a problem with people that I don't know, and don't know the mentality of. For all I know, it could've caused an even bigger problem. Letting myself be "walked on" is something like staying in my seat and missing the entire movie just to not offend them by moving. If there were no other seats, I wouldn't mind asking them to be quiet. Nothing worthwhile comes out of complicating a situation for the same results: watching the movie in peace. [Edit: Cries, lol. I hate editing my comment, but the missing 's' on one word was killing me.]

@mariesummers. 6 лет назад
スカーフクリオScarf Kurio Mation - People can run silently, and throughout the movie people have silently run. Plus, they don't necessarily have to run unless things go wrong. The fields are covered with crops, which works to their advantage. Likewise, if trying to steal from within the house, there's ways to hide from people coming (you might have to get creative though). It can be done easily enough if timed and executed right, especially for someone that does it often for their survival.

@mariesummers.
@mariesummers. 6 лет назад
Neil Griffiths - Not sure who you're replying to (not meant rudely. Just not entirely sure). But (in my opinion) I can see people bothering to steal when times are difficult. Not too likely in this scenario, just because the possibility of someone making noise (whether you or whoever you're stealing from) isn't worth it in most cases. I personally wouldn't be too worried about it though, if I was them, seeing how few and far spread people are. [Edit: "I personally wouldn't be worried about anyone stealing from me," to clarify.]

People actually thought that was a plot hole?!? A) The only thing you could set up right next to a waterfall, to drown out the noise, is a tent. and B) You wouldn't hear them coming either. Just like the other people who lit the fires, they already live in established structures that have plumbing, shelter, storage like the farmhouse and silo. Plus, he wouldn't know to build a farmhouse next to a waterfall. He would only know this AFTER he found out the aliens track by sound. Then he would be killed in the construction of said farmhouse from sawing, hammering, etc. ...Jesus christ. Are people that daft?!?

Zahir Sookoor I didn't have a problem with that. At first there were so many targets for the creatures that people could get away with making noise. As more and more people disappeared every noise you make would draw more attention. By then you'd figure out how to muffle many sounds. Probably every person that got a cold wound up dead unless you were very careful. I was more worried thinking I'd never make it because of the snoring.
@crypto1223
@crypto1223 6 лет назад
My issue would be loud farts and creaking limbs. I can’t go for long without something audibly popping when I move. You can work around sneezing so long as it isn’t a cold or allergies. Serious coughing would be a death sentence; however.

I wanna know why they didnt just opt for sound-overload in the first place? Imagine just constantly blaring a siren, or noise? Just overwhelm the mosters hearing and you can pretty much make any sound you want. One of my first thoughts was "how did this effect the cities?" Because theyre constantly noisy. With thousands of sounds coming from all directions, how would the monster know where to go?

Well, that's the thing with survival instinct as an important trait to evolution. The ones that live on adapted to whatever problems came to them and the ones that didn't wanted to live, well, didn't. That makes you think how thankful we should be to have a civilization and live in a place where there are no immediate threats to our safety in a normal life. Our species can afford to provide a safe life to even those who aren't willing to fight for it (not that it always does). But it also account for some psychologic and existentialist problems in society. The easier life gets, the harder it gets to find meaning. When survival rate is low... only to live and to procreate is enough but when 'just living' and procreating isn't such a big deal, it's even frown upon, like nowadays. Thanks for your comment! it made me ponder these things.

A question about the character's actions taken in the movie is not a plot hole. The characters are human and are able to make dumb decisions even if it is used as a plot device. A plot hole means that something in the plot is WRONG or by an unexplained and left out expository it creates a logical contradiction in the film. That is a plot hole. If you have a question about characters actions just call it that. A question! But the word plothole attracts viewers doesn't it? "plothole or plot error is a gap or inconsistency in a storyline that goes against the flow of logic established by the story's plot. Such inconsistencies include such things as illogical or impossible events, and statements or events that contradict earlier events in the storyline."

@TheLeugim66
@TheLeugim66 6 лет назад
Team StaBlame I will admit that I kind of wondered that too, so I won't try to convince you that that isn't a plot hole, but a few things did come to mind that I would like to point out. One, the creatures are animals. Animals can react in "weird" or "inconsistent" ways sometimes. The way they react to one thing may not be the same way they react to something else. If you look at the way the creature attacked in the silo, both attacking the door and apparently also when leaving the silo, it went claws first. I immediately thought of Genestealers from the Warhammer 40k universe, who can sometimes have a thing called "rending claws" which allow them to practically slice through any kind of metal they want to. On the other hand, when the creature attacked the car it was more of a "blunt force" attack with just it's hands, not it's claws. Second, there could have also been some confusion there too. I'm no expert on sound, but I could guess that just maybe the sound could have been different in/around the car, causing the creature to react differently than it did when people were in more open spaces. Third, the girl's hearing device could have thrown it off, causing to not be as accurate as it usually is. Honestly, in the end I don't know why the creature would have changed it's approach from one instance to the next, it's probably just a plot thing.

Making sound doesn't mean automatically die. You have 5-10 seconds to relocate since the creature can't find thing 5 yard away especially in open field.. You can yell very loud then slowly walk 5 yards away and stop then stay silent and the creature will not find you. (base on the scene it kill their son. It can't detect the rest of the family at all)
@GoodBoyGoneDad
@GoodBoyGoneDad 6 лет назад
I'm sure after it hit the little boy the toy got flung by the impact and the creature had to chase it down and attack it til it stopped making noise. They could have easily escaped at that point. Also it seems to stop searching around after it finds whatever was making the noise.
@mikexhotmail
@mikexhotmail 6 лет назад
Yep. as long as the decoy is far enough one can slowly retreat. Base on the movie the creature changed its target many time once there was louder noise happened. Mommy in the bathtub, Mommy and baby to Silo, Daddy to car , Car to Daddy. So no they don't need to find or eliminate first target before launching to the next one?

Primative ways are not more difficult, they are actually much easier in a post apocalyptic world like this. Which is more practical, a quiet farm house with possibly noisey electricity, wood creaks which force them to step only in specific spots of the floor boards, and metal silos and tools.... or a survival shelter by the waterfall where they can spend more energy on gathering and catching food rather than wasting more energy just to stay quiet.

The family is shown to be religious. They're not just trying to survive, they're trying to live life as normally and faithfully as possible, given the circumstances. Part of that is having a child, even if it's a huge risk. Of course it's not "logical," but then, neither is praying before dinner, or playing a board game, or setting up a headstone for your dead kid at the place he died. It's not about surviving for them, it's about living. As for letting the smallest child walk alone in the back of the group, there is a full three minutes of the movie dedicated to the mom saying, "Why didn't I just carry him, my hands were empty, it's my fault" over and over again. She blamed herself for not thinking ahead. They weren't even three months into the invasion at that point, they probably weren't taking the risks as seriously as they should have. They actually didn't let their deaf daughter wander around; the dad specifically refuses to take the daughter on any excursions or go into his workshop because he thinks she'll make noise. That's one of the main conflicts between them in the movie. The girl even signs to her dad, "I'm not a kid, I won't make any noise." I get the feeling ya'll didn't watch the movie or pay attention to closely. Also you don't know what "plot holes" are.
@devinaanindita8742
@devinaanindita8742 6 лет назад
Fine, religion. Blame it on religion then for them having a child and risking the entire family in a family suicide. I don't know much about their religion, so I am unaware of any prohibition of killing an unborn child in risk of death of another--such as a mother in labor if there were any complications. Usually in here we just abort the child because of health risk being too high--in this case, it is even worse--4 (or 5 counting the dead child) lives were risked for bringing a baby who may not live long anyway because of his crying sound--how long those oxygen tanks could last? 1 months? 2 months? 1 year? And it would take so much longer to ensure a child understand that he cannot speak or make any sound. How long they would have kept him in a box? Anyway, you remind me another strange thing--the boardgame and the unnecessary oil lamp in brightly lit room and the unnecessary accident. It was really bright in the house but they put an oil lamp near the children. Not making sense--but just another additional scene to the movie. But really, I think as a female a mother's instinct would not let her smallest child behind her--with or without monsters. Or at least she would have taken a glance back to make sure that the child followed her. The child was so so far from his family at the time of his death--pointing to neglect. Not taking the risk seriously but already sound-proofing everything, including the whole paths to the city. I only knew that the dad did not let the girl to go into the workshop--I guess it is more on he did not want her daughter to be more fearful rather than just making noise, because he could have accompanied her down there if it was just about noise. The dad did not chase after the deaf girl in the movie and just went on travelling with his son. He did not even know where the hell she went to. His daughter being emotional--had a high probability of doing something stupid but he did not chase her. She said she would not make any noise because she was tired of trying the defective ear piece that her father made for her. She lost hope on trying the ear piece because her father never got it right. She was tired of being hopeful and then having her hope shattered. We all know she still could make sound despite her saying that she would not make any noise--she did not have the capacity to say that with her deafness. It was like many statements that children make but without any ability to do so. "I am not a child, I'm a grown up kind of thing". Fine, we do not know what plot holes are, but at least these things are still illogical--and most of the plot holes discussed here are about those so-called misjudgments after all. I am just adding my two cents.

This problem is also a good metaphor for exposing yourself to danger. It probably wasn’t an intentional decision, but raising kids in an extremely dangerous world in an environment totally protected from that danger would have stopped them from learning how to deal with it for when they would have to leave.

The real question is why did the choose to have another kid in this environment? I understand that it led to a great story and that they were probably trying to fill some void, but you'd think they would have thought things through and realized that this world isn't the best place to have a loud baby Edit: oops you answer that later lol. Still I think it would've been better if they just didn't do that

Eduardo Ruiz I think it was irresponsible of them to bring a baby into the world like this. The baby is going to cry and make noise obviously, why would you want to put your whole family in danger like that?! Honestly when I saw she was pregnet I lost interest in them surviving. Even with his explanation it still doesnt make sense to have another child.

I thought the same thing at first but then I realized they had all the necessary precautions ready. First off the made a sound proof box with an oxygen mask to put the baby in when it cries. Second they had all those fireworks set up for the birth so the mom could scream. It could have worked out fine it’s just that one of the monsters happened to be there right when she went into labor

pop helpme (********SPOILER ALERT!!! ********) The opening scene is on day 85 (when the youngest kid dies) after that it cuts to day 475 (I don’t remember the exact day but it was definitely in the high 400s) that’s over a year, which means the mom got pregnant well into the outbreak. I think it was implied they had a baby to fill the void of the kid who died.

End of the world what person isn't going to want sex? I don't understand how anyone could think this is a plot hole. Condoms fail. All my friends kids were accidents, my kids are accidents. End of the world and we could all die tomorrow ask what people want to do? Have sex. Abortion is not an option. Honey I am going to shove a hanger up your vagina??? How about build a sound proof room, and if the sound proof room fails we have a box with oxygen to keep the baby quiet is plan B. That is logical. You people must be young or something.

These "plot holes" aren't even important to the story. The story is about how difficult it is for a family to survive regardless of there being any monsters or not. The monsters are just a plot device or a metaphor.

Living next to the waterfall is really a dumb idea once you break it down. 1. There was no pre-existing house there and construction would be way louder than the waterfall 2. If they lived in a spot where they could make more noise then there would be a higher chance on someone making too much noise while gathering food or supplies. 3. The barn was most likely their home before everything happened, so moving would be more trouble that it's worth. 4. It isn't out in the open like the farm. I know that sounds weird but by them living on the farm and not in a forest they'll be able to see a creature easier than if it had trees to hide in. 5. The many buildings and crops on the farm create a maze that the family uses to their advantage 6. The farm has electricity 7. By staying in their old home the kids get to keep a small part of how things used to be 8. The farm has lots of room to grow food

I'd like to see in the second movie an explanation of the creatures. Maybe a story of how they came to earth, if they attacked bigger cities or smaller towns, what the start of their arrival was like? Good video I like how you explain all the logistical problems. Another problem with the waterfall solution is that they're in upstate New York, which gets really, really cold in the winter. Does the water in river or creek that supplies the falls even flow during the winter? I know Niagara Falls has only frozen once in recorded history (in 1848) but the falls in A Quiet Place are quiet a bit smaller so I don't see why they would freeze during the winter.

The plot hole with the waterfall is not just that they could have lived near the waterfall but rather the fact that the dad's knowledge of the waterfall points out the fact that he, and probably others, are aware that it is safer to exist in a noisy environment/world rather than one in which if you catch a cold, get the hiccups, or have any other normal bodily functions/issues you will probably die (but somehow that never comes about). This is also not the only plot hole in this movie. Some of the others are the newspapers that were delivered after the creatures began killing everyone, the fact that they still had power, how water amplifies sound but yet in the basement the wife was able to wade through it and the super hearing creature did not detect her. Then there is the fact that the deaf daughter figured out it was white noise that could overpower their systems based off of the television static... which if she could not hear to know about the sound how did she come to that conclusion... and no one's television or radio ever acted up during the invasion? These are just some of the holes. And finally there is the issue of the military. Guns make loud sounds. Also, as shown through the movie you can kill them when shooting them inside of their open mouths. How was the military defeated then? No one ever shot while their mouth was open, which they opened quite a bit. The armed forces decided to shoot in distinct increments to allow moments of silence for the creatures to pinpoint them individually? And everyone somehow all at once forgot about how senses work and the common tactic of overpowering senses and masking things to allude senses? The movie was suspenseful throughout but story wise it had plot holes left and right.

The Movie was really good and so was this video it helped me realize a couple things I never thought about before. But about the baby, on day 89, the first scene of the movie, Evelyn was not pregnant, but on day 472 she was seen as pregnant. A total of 383 days have gone by since the two dates, the average pregnancy is 280 days or the longest one that I could find was 375 days. That is still shorter than the 383 days in between the two scenes. This means that Evelyn got pregnant sometime in between day 89 and day 472. My two questions are why would they decide to have a baby? And How they did it so quietly when according to the video the first time they tested the soundproof bunker was with the baby?

What bothers me is the stupid questions people ask when watching a movie. And call it “plot holes”. But most of the time, they simply can’t connect the dots themselves and expect the director to spoon feed them the answer. You can’t have the answer to everything in a film, sometimes things are just there to move the story along. And also, it’s just a movie.

If I was gonna do it; I'd wait until a loud thunderstorm or hail/blizzard came and grab an RV. Those things measure about 70 dB on the highway; moderate (average) rainfall comes in around 50 dB with thunder being 120 dB within a mile or so of the strike. I might use blankets to try and muffle the sound of the engine; leaving enough of a gap for air to pass over the radiator. With enough time you could make a little compound of several vehicles lining the shore of the waterfall. Just my two cents on the subject.

did u not see the creature that ransacked the home when the baby was crying in the underground area? it probs teared that pipe when ruining the home. As for the bridge, easy! they walk in order of noise from loudest to most quiet, the little boy is tiny and has most quiet footsteps so he is at the back, he understands the concept of no talking but I guess he didnt fully understand other sounds and their impact so thats how he died. The reason for loud to be in the front was so that if a creature came nearby from a sound they make, it'd face the order of toughest to weakest, and they wouldnt need to rearrange themselves to protect.

@lonewander6772 6 лет назад
The red lights is to show that the baby is coming and get them to where they need to be to execute their plan of birthing it without drawing attention from the creatures. Fireworks were set up to be louder than her screams. a simple alarm would get destroyed in minutes. Have you seen how fast those things move?
@mikexhotmail
@mikexhotmail 6 лет назад
What am talking about is a fail safe system in case something went wrong and that creature is breach the parameter . People with the right mind should put that system in place to distract the creature away from your base.which they have none. ps. Yep I see it that is why I would set 10 -20 alarms around the area. which when ever it take one down also give me a clue that which direction and where they are going or coming.
@lonewander6772
@lonewander6772 6 лет назад
mikexhotmail First of all they're too fast too keep track of. They have security cameras around their parameters to try to pin point if any are in their area at the moment. However those things seem to hear from very far away and traverse the distance necessary under minutes. They will breach their parameters no matter what which is why they always have to be quiet even at home. Going off miles in separate directions to set up elaborate alarm systems isn't practical when they have to move in silence and make sure they get home before dark. It's similar to the whole building a base by the waterfall situation. They have to do everything while considering the creatures lurking about. And of course Lee would be the only one truly capable of doing so as his wife was pregnant and his kids being one is deaf and the other very timid.
@mikexhotmail
@mikexhotmail 6 лет назад
Not making noise is what follower think . How to flee if you making noise is what leader think. since at the end of the day anyone will unintentionally make a noise (those kid did when they played monopoly) and first thing for people with the right mind want to do is finding a way to distract the creature away from your location and relocation......you and many people here don't agree....which to me really illogical.

pop helpme but she was pregnant up to day 467 or whatever the last day was, so 280 before that would have still been after the beginning scene. Also I’m not chiding them for keeping it, just for deciding to get their nasty on during a time they have to make as little noise as possible

The biggest plot hole is why they don’t just set up speakers around the outskirts of their property. If the monsters get close to their house they flick a switch, speakers start playing loud music and the monsters run towards the speaker. Turn the speakers off when they start to run off and you’re fine... easy! You can have multiple sparked all over the place and have them randomly turn on and off confusing the monsters.

Cooper Bane Oh I'm not saying it's a plot hole, I'm sure if they stockpile those fireworks and then set them off they can buy a good while to go harvest some corn. I just highly doubt you can do it without making noise. Think about it dude, the stalks are so brittle, just brushing them is going to be loud. This is why I like to imagine the thing they go looking for first on their trips is fireworks.
@GoddoDoggo

Wind blows corn stalks around, which would make a fair bit of natural noise on its own. If they harvested only on stormy days, the sounds of harvesting would be muffled by all the other noise, just like with the river.

@GoddoDoggo
@GoddoDoggo 6 лет назад
It's implied the initial invasion happened very fast, like within a matter of weeks, if that. The beginning of the movie isn't even three months into it, and nearly everyone is already dead. They didn't know the monsters hunted by sound immediately, either. One of the final newspapers says, "It's sound, they can hear you" as if it's a big revelation. So after they finally figured out HOW the monsters were hunting, they probably didn't have much time to figure out a weakness before most of the populace was dead, or the ability to spread the word once they did figure it out. Considering the film only follows this one family the entire time, I'm sure other people have realized it and weaponized it, but that doesn't mean they're able to share that with a rural farm community that they don't even know exists.

I wanna know why the creatures, having such sensitive hearing, can't hear people's heart beats, especially when they're beating faster than normal. Barn Owls and many other owls I believe have the ability to hear mice heartbeat from up in the trees. And the movie shows that the creatures have massive ear holes. I'd say it'd be beyond possible that they'd be able to detect the families heartbeats. I guess they left it out because you know, if that was so, they'd just die because the creatures would always pick up there heartbeats. But idk.

I believe it is plausible to move to the waterfall site. 1. They learned to adapt to "quite place" so they can adapt to waterfall living. The movie says it was day 86 or something. So I guess it hasn't been a year since the invasion? 2. The fall most likely has a cave at it's base, so they wouldn't need to build an elaborate house. If not, they just need to be very close to it. There is such a thing as a boat house. 2. The movie showed they can roll a pick up and not get attacked by the monster. SInce it was allowed, then they can wheel barrow their stuff to the waterfall site. Or move when it rains.

Keep in mind that all of them survived the incident that killed the boy which is mean the creature couldn’t pick them up at all. I repeat!!!! The creature didn't pick up 4 persons 10feets away at all after it finished with the boy . They all must stay still and wait until the creature went away then slowly and quietly retreat. Whatever method they use to leaved the scene it really prove that this creature is pretty easy to handle ,flee and manipulate.

Yup but Hey I just share my idea that there still plenty of way to manage that creature . You can put 100 alarms clock in to the street storm drain, where the creature 100% can't reach? Also many thing that require to make some noise can be done right next to the water fall. They have plenty of battery power tool in the store that they can bring to their work shop at the water fall.

The plot hole isn't "why didn't they build a house by the waterfall" rather it's "why didn't they build a waterfall by the house". More practically, build or procure anything that generated a constant, steady, full-spectrum sound strong enough to cause Auditory Masking. That's the technical term but the concept is intuitive; it's why in the gangster movies they turn on the AC or radio to talk in a bugged room, or why at a concert you and your friend can hear each other inches away but the guy 4 feet away can't hear you at all. This and the lack of soundproofing drove me nuts but I still loved the movie. If I wasn't an audio engineer I might not have even noticed.

Enjoyed the movie, but there was so many plot holes beyond just this one it's laughable. I think that the godamn news had time to publish that the creatures attacked sounds, but the military (around the world apparently) couldn't figure out how to flood the sensitive creatures by sound??? we already have sound based weapons, as well as sound based deterrents like deer whistles. Another thing was once the the creatures where triggered by a sensitive sound... then then became vulnerable to a shot gun blast? You're telling me that any larger ordinance couldn't pierce these tall skinny monsters!? c'mon man.
@GoddoDoggo
@GoddoDoggo 6 лет назад
That's not a plot hole. The entire movie follows this singular, rural farm family. It doesn't show what has happened all over the world. It's perfectly reasonable to assume that different militaries figured out the frequency weakness and weaponized it, but that this off-the-grid family had no way to hear about it.

Let me just blow my deer whistle and get torn to shreds 10 seconds later, creating sound isn't without it's share of risk and if someone were to get close how would anyone else know? They'd be dead because you can't aptly test something with only truly one try without risking your life in this environment a shot-gun blast brought the monsters in droves to them, furthermore if they could survive the deathly cold temperatures of space, survive literally crashing into the earths crust what in your right mind do you think a bullet would do? or any large explosive for the matter. The frequency in the movie is one found by random chance and could be one of many, it wouldn't be easy to replicate either, since they only have one model. It's also a self contained story as well with a family and 1 farm that is all.

SPOILERS DONT READ UNLESS YOUVE SEEN THE MOVIE - - - - - - - - - - - This movie was amazing and definitely a horror classic but there were some dumb decisions. I’m not hating on the film it’s incredible but these little things just need an explanation -why wasn’t there one of the parents behind all the children and one at the front. Little boy might not have died as one of them could’ve just thrown the toy in another direction -how did they have sex without making any sound louder than whispering. -what was the girl thinking wondering into the woods by herself and staying there for ages. The aliens were blind but they could’ve ran into her or something she wouldn’t have been able to hear them anyway. -Why didn’t the boy just walk back to the house after the fireworks. If the dad made it that far into the field and so did he then why couldn’t he have gotten back. -wouldn’t the crackling of the fire made a noise -how did they wash themselves without making a sound. Waters gonna make a sound no matter what. -what if they snore -why didn’t the dad bring the shotgun when he went to save the kids -Ik the hearing aid ended up hurting the aliens in the end but she didn’t know that earlier on and it was obviously hurting her so why didn’t she just take it off, it didn’t work anyway. -it might’ve made them feel better by having another baby but seriously would it be that worth it when your risking the family’s lives. Babies aren’t just gonna cry when there born there gonna cry for months and it will take them a while to learn to not to make any sound Not dissing the film in anyway. The film has an incredible premise but with every incredible premise it’s gonna be pretty hard to make sure everything makes sense. Fucking loved it though
