We only had DD in our childhood. And slowly we moved away to private channels. More because the first private channels were foriegn and we believed anything foriegn was better. Now i have come to realise what Doordarshan is all about. Doordarshan is the fountain of tranquility in todays world of screaming journalism. I ave gone back to DD. Alas, they have changed too with the times. But still miles better than the rest.

It is not about just INDIA.. it is about mother. (Though for us, INDIA is our mother - The Motherland) Vande Mataram - I revere my Mother Maa Tujhe Saalam - Salute to you, Mother. So, when an Indian hears Vande Mataram, he/she gets the tears for their love towards their Mother and Motherland.(especially when they are far away from both) You can feel it for your Mother and Motherland regardless of your nationality.

This song was originally composed along with few other songs during India's freedom struggle. These songs were used to lift people's spirits in the freedom struggle where people used to sing them in the streets during protests and all to keep them going. Since then it always invokes a feeling of national pride and national oneness among us Indians. P.S. Oh yeah, it's also the National Song of India and all that.

Jaby, these are actually two different songs. The first part, which was more traditional, is the national song of India. The second part, with guitars and more modern style, is AR Rahman's version, with completely different lyrics. Both songs are amazing and famous.

First of its such a goosebump song..upon that when u see ARR sir coming on stage..that is just beyond pleasure...n u can see with audience n the singers what it means to them sing with the legend himself...you were right they might have locked out for a moment ...magnitude of presence from Rahman sir...respect to the legend...
