Upon uncovering a bomb plot Michael manages to track the location of bomb, but faces an epic race to dispose of it before it detonates and explodes.

They had about 8 minutes to drive 45.7 miles. If my math is correct, Kitt had an average speed of 343 mph (552 kph). This is remarkably fast since at that time Kitt's top speed was supposed to be around 300 mph or even only 200 mph (there is conflicting information). They only added the faster super pursuit mode later in the series. And yes I had nothing better to do.

@karvaooppeli - Super Pursuit mode achieved 300mph plus, but it was not deployed in that scene as you pointed out correctly it wasn't built into K.I.T.T until much later in the series, your maths is correct ( 342.75mph ). I too had nothing better to do lol

KITT may have simply got up to 88mph and that would have triggered the Flex Capacitor® (which makes time travel possible!) and hence he got there in that unbelievably short space of time. That's assuming, of course, that Dr Emmett Brown works in the technologies department at The Foundation.

I think the time left was exaggerated to build the drama. When they found the Cadillac the timer on the bomb was 15 minutes as shown at 4:32. With the time it took to load it into the trunk, let's say they had 13 min 45 sec to get it out of the city. KITT would be driving at least 200 mph to take it the required distance (assuming no obstructions) which is certainly within his capability.

Stock footage that gets reused a lot throughout Seasons 1-2 and a couple times in Season 3. Then KITT gets his dash upgrade in Season 3 with new shots of Turbo Boost being pressed to reuse.

This show was so great for the shear amounting of over acting. Even KITT is tad guilty of this in the way that his tyres/tires are always screeching when in motion even if hes doing no more than 10 mph or driving off tarmac!

The yellow Lincoln is next to the Cadillac when shown first, then both cars are passed at 4:26 and then the Lincoln is behind KITT at 5:26 and then next to the Caddy again at 5:41 again. .

They are extremely limited on time, opens the trunk, gingerly lifts the bomb, then slowly walks the bomb 30 feet from the car instead of just putting the bomb on the ground DIRECTLY behind the car, then driving off! The things I overlooked when I was 8 years old!!!

Alright, I know I’m going to regret asking this but can someone please do an acceleration factor (?) or average speed calculation (not really sure what I’m looking for) on the pursuing cruiser for me? KITT passed him at 138 mph and accelerating (@accelerating f?) and the cop was only what? five seconds behind him when he had to terminate the pursuit at the roadblock. Sheeeeeet, the true hero of this clip is the Trooper. He had to out-accelerate KITT to catch up like that! Stay Safe & Stay Strong, Boston

From the K.I.T.T. Fandom Wikia - "Super Pursuit Mode provided a 40% boost in speed beyond the car's original top speed of 300 MPH." So I would say yes, base default if K.I.T.T. really wanted to, he could potentially hit 337 mph, pushing himself slightly beyond his limit in accordance to his primary programming to protect human life. Would definitely need a tune-up after though to deal with potentially damaged parts.
