I also enjoy the sound of the rain and it got me to thinking that you could create and sell a CD "The Sound of Bealtaine Cottage and Woodland Sanctuary" - the rain, the wind through the trees, birdsong, the sound of your footsteps walking through the woodland, the water running from the spring, a soft bark from Jack etc. Moving on ... a great selection of books and I've made a note of a few there to look out for. :)

I like you am a sucker for period drama like Downton Abby and love the classics, Pride and Prejudice and etc. I have found a new to me show I am totally obsessed with. It's called Outlanders and it's about a woman who ends up time traveling from 1945 to 1745 Scotland. Its intense at times but I love it and apparently it's pretty historically accurate. It's on Starz and if you can get access to it.

As my mum always said, that's why it's called 'his-story'. We need some 'her-story'! I love all your wee gifts and purchases. Funnily enough I was talking about 'Silent Spring' the other day. I first read it in my teens and it had a profound effect on me. I LOVED the opening scene of this video, just standing watching the rain. I could have kept on watching it, it was like a meditation, and like you said, mesmerising!

My mother dropped out of high school in her junior year to help support her mom and siblings, since her dad had died a few years earlier and the Depression had really hit hard by then. So she was a largely self-educated woman. But she did an excellent job of educating herself. She was the first (and for a long time the only) person I knew who read Rachel Carson's Silent Spring when it was originally published. It made a huge impact. I always think of Mom when I hear Carson's name. And -- change of subject -- look at you! At 22.2K subscribers now! Congratulations.

BTW: I’ve now shared your videos with my three grown sons; Sean Patrick, Kevin Michael, Brian Kelly...I knew for sure they’d love you...their grandmother on their daddy’s side from County Mayo. What can I say...had to name my kids Irish names...otherwise...being Italian that I am, all there was to pick from was, Tonys or Joeys! 🤗👍😉My sister did the same with her only two daughters; Shannan, and Erin! We both wanted children with green or blue eyes! Of course, red hair would of been awesome! (HaHa!) In any case, I knew your accent and where you live would bring them joy! And, not to end, for them to see their mother be so happy to have found your videos that too, brings us all much delight! Oh, I could listen to you forever! I hate when your videos end! I’m with you. Ok lots of good books written by men about men. But what about good books about people by women. Regarding history being written by men. I’ve always admired Barbara Tuchman. Her Distant Mirror about life in early medieval Europe really impressed me. A distant mirror indeed. Digital is great for storage but to hold a book in your hands is the real deal. I have a wonderful book about the history of the area where I live, Scarborough, Ontario. There is an incredible story about one of the very first families to inhabit here, David and Mary Thomson. Mary spent months on her own with the children while David was gone clearing trees for the first roads. One night there was a bear trying to get into their cabin and Mary killed it by herself with an axe!! Because what else would a mother do than protect her babies?

Rachel Carson...bless her. She rang the alarm bell so long ago. The Celtic book is a gem! What a treasure. And, in reference to history from something other than a patriarchal war mongering perspective (I can imagine you reading that book and debating out loud with the authors), have you read any of Anne Baring? A woman to be listened to for sure...quite brilliant. Well, it looks like you are well set for some rainy evening reads. And your visit to Lisheen (msp) house was riveting! Signing off from here in California where I am LONGING for a rainy day.

"I mean...nirvana..??!!!" Oh come on...I'm sure men have gotten their historical documentation right...HAHAHAHAHAAAAA! Great book haul. I will be sending you a copy of MY O'Neill history - my great great grandmother was the FIRST WOMAN Game and Fish Warden (Conservation Officer) in the UNITED STATES, for Grand Traverse County, Michigan. The magazine article tells of her ability to handle a boat and a gun better than any man in the county, and how she petitioned the governor for the position as she was tired of the men looking the other way at all the poaching. Her parents emigrated here from Ireland, but I have only traced them back to Dublin where they boarded the ship. Do buy an out of print book called ‘Elizabeth Vigee Le Brun. An autobiography start around 1800 when Elizabeth was 15, in England, and learning to paint. She married Le Brun she was about 16 had a child and left her spendthrift husband. She took her child and painted her way to France where she became favourite to the Queen. She painted many of the family portraits and led a most extraordinary life. I am sure you would love it. I have read it twice and wish I could send it but my books are my children and I re read them many times. I own the 9 volumes of Samuel Pepys. Read them first at varsity and recently bought an old set. He wrote them in shorthand using a mirror so they could not be translated for centuries . He just wrote them for himself so no holds barred. The Great Fire of London and the Plague are extremely detailed. Day to day life so real. Enjoy if you get them.
