My Dad lives on top of one of those beautiful mountains in Blairsville. My Aunt drove off the side of the mountain with me in her VW Bug when I was a kid. We somehow managed to get out of her Bug & hiked to Mountain Crossings at Neel Gap. We slept in the phone booth in the middle of the night until my Dad came to find us.

Another cute little town. We love stopping at museums when we're traveling. Each location has its own unique history and gives you a greater appreciation of the community. I used to volunteer at a museum so I just love taking in history. What a great way to avoid the storm. Thanks for taking us along with you!

Loved this video! IMHO the best RU-vid creators share the history of where they are at the time. I'm sure you were a great tour guide. Savannah is awesome. I was lucky enough to spend a night at the haunted Marshall Inn, and yes, we did have a little spooky incident while we were there. You keep chugging along at your own speed, don't fret about miles. I've enjoyed your channel more than any I've watched before, and I've watched many over the years. You're living the dream many people have. Keep being yourself and experience this to the fullest. You know what? These town tours are fascinating and enjoyable! I love it! Who cares how long your walk takes, it's your walk! Enjoy yourself. Ive sometimes thought that if a person was skilled in the trades, they could start an AT hike and then work their way up the trail. Stay in a town for a month or so and earn money and keep goin. Seems like it could work. Hey! Who cares how long the trail takes... if it takes a season, 2 seasons, 3 seasons... who cares! Enjoy this awesome country of ours!! NQU

Good morning Laura, Wow, that museum was so freakin' cool. I also love history and seem to always get lost in places like that for hours. So especially cool that they have the GATC history and ATC history displayed. I've followed a lot of AT thru-hikers and yours is the first to ever highlight that place. Speaking of highlights, before I forget, Nickels gave you a shout out on his report to Ramdino yesterday. So cool!!! He looks like a great kid. Thank you for sharing all that you do. It's actually very refreshing to not just watch "trail" video and listen to people get out of breath. The trail is about the history and the community, and I think you are absolutely capturing that! Have a great day. Squaw Standing Trail. Love it!!! :)

While “hiking your own hike” is commendable, I can understand why “thru-hikers” want to hold onto that title. They sacrificed more to complete the trail within 12 months. I applaud your efforts and adjustments to make your hike achievable and I doubt calling yourself a “section hiker” would placate the haters. Keep going to that next stump!

My hiking partner had to drop out of our upcoming section hike stepping off at Fontana and heading into the Smokey's on Easter weekend or early the week of April 1st (no joke). Planning on 3 1/2 days to Newfound Gap. I am 57 and have section hiked from Amicalola to Fontana Dam over the last few years but always with a hiking buddy. Would feel more comfortable having a plan with someone ahead of time as opposed to looking for a hiking partner when I get to Fontana. Let me know if you are interested. Sorry for the commercial. @snowcrash512
@snowcrash512 5 месяцев назад
If its not within a 1 year span on the calendar then its considered section hiking... technically you can do whatever you want to do, its just a label at the end of the day. The reason everyone rushes is because the northern end point closes in October usually because of weather, there are alternative itineraries with much broader completion times that dont involve ending in the north. People can do whatever they want but the best choice for those that are going to start slow for whatever reason is usually to start in the middle where the trail has a couple hundred fairly easy miles to get in shape, gives you lots of time to reach the northern terminus and then you can flip back south and finish the trail with your only real time crunch being how much winter you can deal with.

Why does the title matter to you so much? completing every mile of the A.T is a huge accomplishment no matter how long it takes you but if you really need the title than you really need to challenge and push yourself to do it in a 12 month period. The title "thru hiker" is the 12 month challenge and those that do it, deserve it!!
