The strange thing to note is that I’ve been aware of this rare “New Pence” error ever since I was a youngster. and I think even back in the early nineties that coin was fetching £100. and of course I disbelieved what I was hearing & thought nothing more of it😂 So even in my late teens I had people around me who had coin awareness but yet I never took any interest until I came across the Olympic set from 2011 onwards. Great upload Paul.
Random youtube recommendation so I had a quick look then dived into the jar full of 2p coins I have. The first 3 I pulled out are 1983.........but the Two Pence versions. I was sweating for a minute there :)
Auction sites "Buyer Beware 🐅" Grrrrr. What £600 👀. I have the Beans & The Martini set. I'm going to have to get them out now and have a look. I should have checked these before 🤷♀. Great video 😎🍀💜
Always liked the Christopher Ironside reverse designs on the decimal coinage when it was introduced in 1971 - bold and simple - much better than the current designs - but are they about to change??!! But still think the pre-decimal coins had the best designs, though - especially the Victorian ones! Thanks for another informative video - top man Paul!
Had to check after watching the video... I had three 2p coins amongst the change in my pocket, and one of them was actually a 1971 coin. So yeah, clearly not that rare! 🙂
We've just moved and yesterday I found my grandfather-in-law's coin collection. One of them items was one of the 1983 collections (not sure if it's with or without the pound coin)....fingers crossed! :D
You missed out the Benson and Hedges set .( presumed unique) I got one at a major auction two years ago with the TWO NEW PENCE error coin.. Cost me £1700 appx Never seen another in 17 years of collecting . The Heinz set is rare also.
Hi. Ive just found my old coin collection and in it I have a 2p from 1986 that has no reverse side. Its double stamped with the queens head but one side is inverse and back to front too. A complete mis-stamp.
I have a couple of 2 New Pence Coins from 1983 and other years after 1983..They aren't in good a condition as yours but i still have them..I also have 1 New Pence Coins from 1983 onwards..I'm not sure if they are worth anything though ?? Thanks for your Brilliant Video's..
I had 9 or so of these coins listed once in a listing. Not sure if having 9 of these coins in a single listing put people off or not but I can't remember the dates on the coins but all that I do know that my listing has a starting bid of 99p.
@Keltic D Lool The coins definitely had the new pence on them & I had P&P set at £1.40 or £1.60 so if the low sat price was a put off then how come other listings like with graphics cards, h.Drives etc that sometimes get listed at 99p do so well?
I actually found 2 of them from an arcade from Southport and there is 2 variations of this one from New Jersey 2 pence coin and the normal version I have both
You brought back memorys of when I was in the arcade with my family and i found a peters tower 2p and I couldnt trust myself with it so I asked my dad to look after it. Better off me having it though because he spent it unintentionally. 😭
i have noticed that the 70s and 80s 1pence and 2 pence coins are getting scarcer in change recently. probably being withdrawn due to the metal content?
I'm not a coin collector. But I do know they were made of copper. Non ferrous metal. The new copper coins have been out a long time but not made of copper. That's why. They getting more money for scrap. Get a magnet and try your copper coins. If it sticks to the magnet it metal not copper. Not worth noting money wise. So copper not stick to the magnet. So now you know. ??? Hooe this helps you. ?
Lol you will NOT see 70’s and 80’s coins in your change today! The whole coinage was made much smaller many years ago- and ALL the old large ones were taken out of circulation and are not even legal tender. You should never see a 70’s coin in your change.
@@TheGreatest1974 the decimal 1 and 2 pence coins came out in 1971 and are still in peoples change. i recently got two 1971 1 pence coins and a 1975 2 pence coin in my change last week.
Ah yes, the "rare" coin Ebay thing!. The latest one I've noticed is a 2015 Technology trying to be sold for £7,999 (+ £0.95 postage 😁) due to a "minting error" (the coin has a milled edge). But when you see the photos you can tell it's a fake coin! I have the Martini set (no luck), and did have the Heinz set (again no result), but I ripped that one apart for date runs 😳.
@@ruthsmith5797 sadly Ruth it’s not considered an error and not worth anything more than face value. It’s what they call a weak strike a fair few £2 coins have similar weak strikes like the 1999 Rugby World Cup which sometimes says 999 because it’s missing the 1 As Glen (Mackemmoolah) says above “EBay is full of people trying to claim coins are rare or have errors. It’s always best to ask around, you’ve done the right thing, hope this helps
Those eBay sellers who advertise these "rare" coins are a pet hate of mine, I am convinced most of those are either trapping the uneducated (in coin terms) or are money laundering. For this particular coin though, I have the 1983 Martini pack here... When I saw this at the auction, my heart did start racing slightly, could this be it... will my bank account cope, will I be sleeping on the sofa (we don't have a dog so no dog house). With trepidation, I opened the case and there it was, the words "Two Pence"... ah well, that lot was a lot cheaper than it could have been!
Sir, I have one of this kind 2 new pence Queen Elezabeth11 but this is not a 1971 it's a 1981,what about this coin what is it's current value? I want to know. Pls help me sell this coin, your effort is deeply appreciated thank you so much.
Hi I've got five 2 new pence coins from 71 to 80 and in used condition as been in piggy bank lol so how much are they worth... As seen similar on ebay advertised for £9 grand each as RARE??
You need money to make money, that's an understatement for this lol I remember when my father said look at all those 2p coins aren't you rich oh wow says in a sarcastic manner. He never saw the irony until now lol
Printing your own money and deciding it's worth is what it is. The reserve bank has got that scam locked up tight. They should digitalize the monetary system, then those coins will become like priceless art pieces in the future.🤔
I expect the banks are slowly keeping the pure copper pences back as they are worth more than their weight as copper scrap. All we will have in circ will be the steel pences.
2 questions...Q1 how much is the NEW BREXIT 50p 2020 reading "Peace, Prosperity & Friendship all Nations" Coin? I have 2. I see so many price differences for them,so on ebay for thousands!! Q2 How much is a 2017 The tale of Peter rabbit worth? Thanks
I just watched your video. i checked a few 2p coins I have here at home. I have 2 1981 NEW PENCE coins and a 1980 New pence coin. seem That are not that uncommon or am I in possession of over value coins ,.
Great info ,could you do a quick one on the 1983 pound as there is different opinions on it. I have two writing face uo when writing is matched up and the coins separated one head faces north and the other faces south is this common Thanks.
I have found that I have a used condition, 'NEW PENCE' 2 pence, dated 1971. Is this worth any money? Just re-watched your video, so I guess that's a No!
How can there be errors? You would think with all the time and effort that goes into designing a coin that they would get it wrong at the end... Did they forget to take the old design out of the press or what?
Sir, I have one of this kind Queen Elizabeth11 2 new pence 1981VF conditions this is for sale. Where did I sell this? I'm from the Philippines. Pls help me find buyer. Your help is deeply appreciated. Thank you so much.
I had a paper round about that time, new pence / two pence on the same year of coin definitely happened. Have my doubts they are from uncirculated sets. My mum collected coins at the time, so she probably has a few examples, but circulated condition. I did get into coin collecting later, but only predecimal stuff. Die numbers and mint marks much more interesting 😂 ah what a nerd fest.
