well it totally destroyed the credibility of the tv show "the last ship" with their silly single container of seeds they were trying to save. I was watching thinking ffs, just go to the dam seedbank you fools!
Cristian Leon the food would eventually expire so i am glad it's not a grocery store bunker... It's something to fall upon, to grow crops and see what works.
Pretty vulnerable ark if you ask me. This place needs to be guarded like a large vault. The worst danger is one of the vault's backers Monsanto coming back to sabotage the seed vault. The direction they are taking suggests this vault's seed supply are numbered. Pray that won't happen.

Did you know that the permafrost also extend into the seafloor in large areas of arctic ocean? This permafrost acts like a membrane that prevents natural gasses escaping the sediments/bedrock beneath. Since last ice age this seabed permafrost has been thawing slowly and gradually releasing huge amounts of natural gasses. Add global climate change into the mix and most people would understand that a rise in sea water temperature will change the rate of thawing of permafrost an exponentially increase the release of dangerous greenhouse gasses like methane. This could be a topic worthwhile exploring in my humble opinion. Big fan of the show btw !

Good video. I was emotional when the lady talked. I wish the video also talked about the security and design of the building. For example, it is designed to survive a nuclear blast. Science is awesome, and it only takes a very few of us to make a huge difference. :)
Do they do any testing at the facility or is its only purpose to store the seeds? Regardless, it's great to see that there are people out there who realize its necessity, especially with humanity's continuous population growth and changing environments due to human interference.
why isnt there also a backup vault like this one but just for human history/knowledge (stored in a 5d glass memory chips), that is really a must as well.

OK, so the seeds are all there, but is the information necessary to utilize then there too? If not, is it as distributed as the provenance of the seeds themselves, or is there another "library" just for the instructions.
I feel like a lot of the recent videos have been getting better. They seem better researched and the commentary is more nuanced and less sensationalised. I also feel like there's more science and less pop psychology, which used to be the main thing on this channel. I appreciate all these changes!

Russia, Germany & England all their own seed vaults. The United States does not have a seed vault (that I know of). I believe any country can contribute seeds to Svalbard. Yet, in the US, GMO seeds from Monsanto are what most crops are grown from & consumed by Americans. I just wanted to put that out there since most people have no idea that a corporation holds the patents on the seeds that produce our food.

It is rumored than 4 descendants of Eric The Red are guarding the vaults and they keep a trained Sasquatch in a cell block. Some even mention having visions of Ymir when coming close.
At 1:58 it shows gene bank seeds from the DPRK (Democratic Republic of Korea) in the red container on the right. Thought that was very cool that they really do have seeds from countries all over the world.
