USS Texas (SSN-775) is a Virginia-class nuclear-powered fast-attack submarine, and the fourth warship of the United States Navy to be named after the state of Texas.
The video includes footages of Sailors onboard the submarine perform routine maintenance and daily operations in the auxiliary spaces and the conning tower, prepare the submarine to dive while underway, and fire drill during a routine training exercise in the Pacific Ocean.

Highlights of life in a submarine For the parts inside the sub, here a few descriptions: 0:22 taking logs on the CO-H2 Burner 1:31 taking logs on the CO2 Scrubber 1:45 valve line ups for Snorkeling with the Diesel. 2:00 starting the Diesel with air. 2:14 the Diesel running 2:34 taking logs on the Diesel. 2:48 you can hear the turbos on the Diesel, while he is checking oil levels 3:18 cleaning sampling equipment 3:36 more training. 4:16 begins a fire drill 4:20 begins "sucking rubber," that is what we call having to put full face masks on. 4:32 air hose connections for your full face mask.. you don't hook up right, you don't breath.. 4:42 in a fire onboard everyone had to wear full face masks.... or you asphyxiate... (people with no masks on a running/monitoring the fire drill) 7:24 fire team running the fire drill 7:30 scene fire team leader coordinating the fire team response 8:08 fire hose nozzleman from fire team approaching the fire (the reason he is crawling is a fire's highest temperatures are high in the space, by staying low you avoid high temperatures) 8:25 right behind fire hose nozzleman is the man with the Infrared Thermal Imager, who can see through the smoke, and yells out to the nozzleman where to direct his water stream... 8:52 cover for the full face mask to simulate low visibility due to heavy smoke in the air 14:51 bringing up the gear to set up railing on top of the sail of the submarine (they are inbound to port)

Probably as any surface ship that has similar ( and much larger) has restricted passage near it, but the real danger was not the radar but the radio antenna..basically you got castrated near the large antennaes of the ship i was on, . My guess is that since it probably uses a very low power perhaps not, and why i mean low power is that a nature of a sub is to be silent even in those areas so it at least is less than regular surface ships...but i wouldnt lick it..

The first part of this documentary was the life support station: CO H2 burners, Oxygen Generator, Monoethanolamine CO2 Scrubbers, and Lithium Hydroxide (Li-OH) Scrubbers. The next part HP air compressors, and hydraulic pump room for ships valves. Those submariners were awfully slow to extinguish that galley fire, with too many people down there in the galley. A galley fire can fill nearly all compartments with black smoke in less than a minute. You don't want to blast that deep fat fryer with a water hose, otherwise you'll have burning oil all over the place. There should be a halon system right above those cooking appliances. They should have used hose spray from the bottom up to extinguish and cool the compartment. They should have had that fire under control in no less than a few minutes, general quarters, isolate compartments, surface, and rigging that ship to ventilate. The con can't stop that shaft man, that the maneuvering room's job, specifically the throttleman.

I find those fabric-top respirators interesting. I mean, I guess it's safe to assume the US Navy thought things through so there's no reason to ask, "that fabric protects from smoke and hazardous fumes?" but I would not have expected that. Is there an internal liner, or the fabric is woven tightly enough to provide a seal in-and-of itself?
@mattjacobs527
@mattjacobs527 7 лет назад
Actually, i guess the respirator itself fully seals on the face, so that would just protect the head itself from hazards.

*Question: Does anyone know how the sailors protect the submarine when outside on the top? I know sometimes there is a navy boat or war ship that protects them, but how is it done when there’s not a boat nearby the submarine and they are on the surface? Do they have carryable rifles or machine guns that are easily accessible like the navy ships have?*

Bryce Miller - Just to clarify, I’m talking about speedboat or a rowboat or some thing where I torpedo wouldn’t really work on it. So they would need some kind of machine gun. But it makes sense that they torpedoes to probably still be used on a ship or something.

The inside part of the sub is isolated from the outside hull of the sub. So the noise doesn't travel into the water to be picked up by other ships/subs as much as you might think. Still, they generally don't do this kind of stuff when they are deployed and expecting possible contact, etc.

BrianL9944 - I hope you’re a troll and don’t believe what your wrote.🤞 Or at least a 13yr old boy that will grow up. Because if you really believe your comment that just b/c the woman in this video isn’t putting on a hood that it shows women aren’t good for the military, well then you have issues to consider. I don’t necessarily care if someone has a problem with women in the military, it’s that this video doesn’t show that in any way. FYI, this isn’t my nicest comment, it’s obviously not a positive and uplifting comment. But a pretty solid rule with me is that I acted the same in person as I do online. I am not rude or nasty to people online. Obviously a lot of people are pretty nasty online, which doesn’t bother me directly or anything, but I just don’t want to contribute to the sewer. And also I’ll say, I know your comment didn’t specifically say that “women” in the military, but it seem pretty evident to me what your implication was.

@@iMatti00 we're experiencing this 'unprecedented' total pandemic craziness you must wear a mask whether you are a male or female. i don't get it why some people still refuse to wear masks in public like this lady in the video... she should be reprimanded for not wearing a mask

BrianL9944 - Thanks for your reply, but I think you’ve forgotten what video this is. You made this comment a year ago on this video. There was no pandemic back then. Nobody in this video is wearing a mask, except for during a military drill they are putting on their smoke/fire mask. Only one person doesn’t have it. When I first read your reply to me, I was going to reply that I think we just misunderstood each other because you were talking about coronavirus mask and I was talking about smoke/fire mask safety gear. But then I looked at the timestamp on your comment. So you couldn’t be talking about the coronavirus issue. You might watch the video and then see what it’s about at the time do you listed.

@@iMatti00 good point this old vid has nothing to do with this pandemic craziness. it's "military gas mask training" about learning the importance of gas masks in the exercise. obviously she's not wearing her gas mask compromising the mission readiness
