Great Lakes Fleet is the operator of this fleet which is based and flagged out of Duluth , the parent company is actually Canadian National Railway ,the fleet has been up for sale for about 5 yrs now , this fleet is connected with the CN ore docks in Superior.

Very cool - a legend of a ship. Was at Lock 3 today to watch the Kaministiqua and the Thunder Bay cross each other. Always a treat to see these behemoths, but a rare rare treat to see the AMA that far south and east. Usually she's going from Detroitish to Duluth and back.

Lived in Erie for 28 years before moving to California. Never realized how much interesting things were happening in the lakes. Had a home on a hill outside of Erie that I could see the ships passing. but never realized how important they were to our economy. Love your channel! Provides a unique perspective as to the going song in Lake Erie. Keep the videos coming.

Excellent video, Thank you! But the rear of the boat is called the STERN, not the rear.

I tell you, when I am out there, it easy to forget words or get tongue tied. I'll try to remember "stern" from now on. Cheers lol

In Welsh mythology the white crests of waves morphed into horses & galloped ashore so i guess the 1 on the buoy is biding his time to come on in. As usual i'm loving your simple, informative posts with such lovely HD photography & no unnecessary chatter. Thanks & keep safe doing what you do.

She (the anderon) was the vessel that left two harbours Minnesota and would be the vessel to assist the Fitz in the storm on superior that night. The us coast guard did not have a vessel to go and search for survivors . The Anderson went back out to search for survivors saddle 29 men went to the bottom.

Amazing ship, huge extension, but old bones still in service. Still getting my head around how some of the ships navigate all the way to the ocean. Classic Gordon Lightfoot song. Hello from New Zealand

Thanks for posting. I seen on my Marine Traffic app that she was on her way to Buffalo at the time you made this video. Unfortunately I was unable to see/ greet her. So this video is next best thing. It definitely was a rare appearance. I did notice she came to Buffalo again in the last week or so. But I think? those are the only 2 times this season.

You need to get a portable radio so you can inform them what you're doing out there next to them. I'm positive they were a little uneasy and wondered what in the world your intentions were. There are too many nuts in this world today. The Captain sent the mate to the port rail to watch you!! I would tell them I was videoing the classic boat for videos! That would put them at ease!

Every boat you see sends a crewmen to the bow when entering or exiting a Harbour. Always in sight of the bridge. When she sounder her horn I was quite some distance away.

Just started to watch your videos, great work; interesting but here is some info for you. Operators of small pleasure vessels arriving in the United States from a foreign port must report their arrival to U.S. Customs and Border Protection immediately for face-to-face inspection at a designated reporting location. Some exceptions apply, including under Nexus Marine. Former CPS Instructor.

If I'm to land, anchor or meet up with someone that is from US, I have to apply via the Roam App. If I'm just riding around and don't enter the Harbour I don't need to apply. As per CBP. The CBP app is great. Very quick and efficient.

I remember getting closer to it last summer on the St Clair River, but conditions were much better. My rule of thumb is don't cut in front and keep in view of the bridge. If they don't like me around they will send me away, tha fully all they do I wave and shout hello.

What is she carrying? Possibly limestone from Manitouland Island?
@NigelHay
@NigelHay 3 месяца назад
I have no idea. Grain? I think she went to General Mills. (Could be wrong) she unloaded very quickly I know that
@bruce5188
@bruce5188 3 месяца назад
Yes I've seen the lake freighters unloading limestone at the Port of Toronto. They don't take very long unloading. Something like 30000 tons in three hours
