I just played the 20 years edition on my switch. While playing I thought it would be funny to hack in infinite pearls. I bought all the upgrades way too soon. Jumped over the laser to go to the slaughter house (with peyj) upon making it in and docking the hovercraft the game crashed when Peyj tried to jump out. Would be funny if the game would just play out having peyj with you all the time while he also being captured xD
This is easily one of my favourite games of all time, and it is an absolute shame that we still haven't gotten a proper sequel. Thanks for putting this together.
Ive been absolutely obsessed with this game ever since i played it. Its world, i think, is just the best. Hyllis is the only fictional world id love to live in because i think too many fictional worlds especially in video games are either so saccharine it makes them incredibly dull, or so devastatingly horrible youd better off just living in actual sewers. Hyllis has a perfect balance to it. Its not idyllic like Hyrule, nor is it horrid like Midgar, it has that feeling of dear home that also has rent and the war is going on and the hovercrafts are loud as shit, but man does it still feel like home. Thanks for this video. BG&E is one of the games that definitely deserve much more recognition. I've beaten it more times than any other game and I will probably do it one more time soon. The news about the sequel aren't great, sadly. At least it's still being worked on, but the hope that it will turn out worthy of its predecessor is stretching thinner and thinner.
I fear the same thing. I don’t expect much good from it, so often when games get a sequel of any sorts it’s like the creators didn’t realise at all what made the first so amazing, and change all sorts of things up instead of it just being a continuation from what we had, in such a bad, disappointing way. Well, and of all things it becoming a prequel when we all just want to see a sequel, they ended it on such a cliffhanger!!
Thanks to the anniversary edition BGE2 actually sounds more like what they planned for BGE. And I made peace with the cliffhänger. The Iris network will just give Pey'j the same Antidote they gave Double H. 😅
Holy hell, thank you for this stretch of a game study. I feel like there's this mentally manifested version of a better form of BGE that we as fans collectively refer to, superchargered with the initial potential scope Ancel hoped for and the building nostalgia year-by-year waiting for the relief of a sequel, so it feels like something I couldn't explain to someone in detail irl. I always felt crazy for getting in bouts where I do nothing but think about BGE for days straight, but seeing your review is comforting, knowing that others get into the same bouts. The game by itself has always technically been a bit underwhelming, but the immensely great soundtrack forces it to be memorable. The story's jarring twist into authority-imposed human trafficking - matched with the game's sometimes unsettling and grim art/music - turned me away from going into anything past Black Isle as a kid! Glad i finish it until in my teens bc I definitely didn't need to see the DomZ priest. Also i think it's just me, but the eerieness is amplified by the game's dark 'warehouse door' loading screens and the fonts used all over the game, but that should just be me lol. To some extent, we're all gonna be just a bit turned down when the 2nd game comes out bc it's gonna fundamentally have nothing the same from the 1st, so we really will have to pick it up as a new game. Hell, even the new prequel teaser stuff from the 20th year edition release feels completely different from the entire game.

One of the best games I’ve ever played. No in fact, I do think this is the best. The world building, story, characters, gameplay, MUSIC, voice acting, pacing, it’s absolutely amazing and still gets me every time.
Wonderful video about a wonderful game that will always have a special place in my heart! And I must say while Pey'j and Double H sound very similar to their German voices, I prefer Shandra Schadt as Jade. She sounds more kind and less sarcastic than her English voice I think. And tbh, I don't even know if BGE 2 will ever release, or if it will be good given Ubisofts track record as of late :/

It is sooooo clever. 10:00 I always thought the do-jo was a little magic, so that's why you have the superattack. 14:00 never heard about the substance. And I also love that there is a inuniverse explanation for the unlimited inventory 😅 47:00 oh in the german version Jade says the alpha section protects us for generations. But years make so much more sense... 😅 But it shows how effective the propaganda of the Alpha Section is, that Jade belives what they broadcast. 52:00 Akuda Bar... never got that pun😅 Watched now the rest of the video. It was quite interesting. The thought that there could even be a higher being than the DomZ Priest is interesting. But I wouldn't put everything that the Priest says for the truth.... And I guess that we never got the truth of what Shauni is, is the real cliffhanger, not that Page got the Domz Monster on his hand. 😮 And this is something they could actually answer in a Prequel.
