Rightyokalie!! I'm back and this time I start to learn that sometimes it is best that I ignore my engineering judgement in Poly Bridge 2. We take on the first few levels of a new world, the Glowing Gorge. Using techniques that probably wouldn't be allowed in real life such as allowing cars to front flip and wheely, and also making a bridge fall on purpose, are the main techniques to get through today's Poly Bridge 2 levels. I go through Poly Bridge 2 levels 2-1, 2-2, 2-3 and 2-4 so you could use this as a guide to Poly Bridge 2 to get levels under budget with no breaks. Remember I am a real civil engineer playing Poly Bridge 2, so if you have every wanted to see how an engineer plays Poly Bridge 2, you've come to the right channel!
If you enjoy the video please give it a like and subscribe to the Real Civil Engineer channel for notifications when I post future videos! Thanks!!

5:02 btw, it broke because the Reinforced road is heavier than the normal road, usually, I wouldn't recommend having a reinforced road in the middle of normal roads, because it will be much stronger but heavier than the roads surrounding it. 4:53 This happened with the now defunct rollercoaster, Son of Beast, at King's Island. The park had the support structure reinforced, and made it unintentionally too stiff which put a lot of stress on one of the support members (bent-290) eventually snapping it and dropping one of the rails by around 5 inches. When train 2 passed over this section, it injured all 27 riders (all of which were hospitalized and recoverd). One of the ride operators noticed train 2's injured riders as it was on the final brake run and emergency stopped the ride while train 1 hadn't made it over the lift hill, and thus was able to be safely evacuated using standard procedures.

Something only engineers realize sometimes is that by making a certain part stronger, you can actually make the whole structure more brittle because that piece being more stiff will concentrate more stress and the pieces conected to it may break if they are not reinforced too.

I think the high-players on the limo level used a rope bridge design on the second half of the level, where you use reinforced roads with no support in a bit of an arch to make a strong but self supporting road that can hold a lot of weight. Rope bridges are really strong in this game if you adjust the arch right from what i've seen.

Hey man o/ I'm a bit late to the party and jsut watched all your episodes so far in a row and wann start by saying you doing a great job :3 really nice to watch. Also comparing to the top 10 players in this game is semi pointless because they either spend hours tweaking or abusing the physics engine. for example those 300 bucks bridges are basically a falling road form the sky that launch the car to the other side because they gain so much speed form gravity. Another thign those people do is called a dangling roads bridge which is a bridge of just roads that if setup properly can hold more weight than one might think. Anyways thats just my 2 cents keep up the amazing work this is fun to watch. Especially your explanaitons to things.

On your firetruck/van drawbridge, you were spending a lot of money supporting above, when you could have supported farther out from below, decreasing the number of road segments(length) of your middle section, and thus requiring less support above. It is always good to try to segment your bridges, and decrease the length of each of those segments when possible.

That fkn bridge with the fire truck and the van… that piece that kept breaking seemed to also sustain damage while the bridge operated. After it opened and the boat went through when the bridge closed that road piece seemed to stay yellow instead of returning to green… I hadn’t seen that before binge watching these videos.

3:15 I’d assume it’s because it’s smaller, so it’s more massive in the sense of for example, one cube of van weighs more than one cube of fire truck, because it is denser. Basically I’m saying that I think that since the van is smaller, it can’t as widely distribute it’s weight, and so the bridge breaks. Edit: kept watching that vid, I think he’s got the idea of what happened

No, it's because the bridge moved during hydraulics and isn't in exactly the same place.

there is also just connecting the middle joint when closed, and when open the middle part would normally flop down, but if you connect it to the next road it stays

5:30 is happening because reinforce weighs more. Its like when you have to recheck your calculation when picking a larger beam

might not be the case here - but I used to play some old bridge builder game, much like this, just 20 years old, and I think running in flash! But when you had to get more than one thing over, high stress from the first passing would weaken the bridge and make it more likely to break on second pass!

3:19 - the van has a shorter wheelbase, so more stress is distributed over a smaller area.
