I personally think this style of content is awesome. No need to burn yourself out with challenges and objectives. Have fun playing how you want and we'll keep watching
At this point it's more enjoyable for me to watch other people play SC than it is for me to play. There are so many good systems but they're overburdened by clunky, needlessly complicated interfaces. Great vibe, really enjoyed your commentary and playing, Olli.
I buy in game the Cutlas Red (rescue) for the Org I'm a member of and I find myself using it for missions when I know I'm not going to do any ship combat. The med beds are super handy after bunker missions :) Always suppress your guns so they cant track you as well. It really helps!!!!
I watched this tonight while I made dinner and then couldn’t wait to get on and stop grinding. I told myself I wasn’t allowed to take any missions, I had to start with a starter ship (Cutter FTW!) and I was only allowed to loot what I could carry on my person from outposts. I ended up finding a cave and getting a ton of hadanite using a box I found from a wreckage, salvaged a couple of guns, made enough money to do some trading, I tried to salvage some cargo from a Carrack and got a rescue when it went south. It was the most fun I’ve had in Star Citizen in a long time. I think I only made around 30k (no pun intended) but it was great! Thanks for the inspiration, this was a fantastic video!
Thanks Olli. The issues with Treasure Hunting is that there are times when the loot boxes are empty, locked or don't spawn making it frustrating. Also I think the Yellow boxes only spawn on the crashed ship sites not in the bunkers. I also like doing the abandoned out posts where the loot boxes are grey but they spawn unique weapons and armor and the alien artifacts. This is where I got all of my nerf guns you can use in AZ. Also there are the different colored multi tools you can get. The issue with abandoned out posts is you have to fight NPCs to get to them.
I do check while I'm looting but it says empty. After storing that same loot at my base; it sometimes will later spawn loot in the pockets (which I first notice when see the blue bar indicator).
@@Spork82 That is what tipped me off, when I'd drop a bunch of bodies (don't judge) and loot them onto my ship, then dump that at my preferred station. When I'd eventually equip the looted armor, I'd notice things were in them already so I started looking and it's been pretty consistent and worthwhile for me to at least check.
The gameplay on your video seems so much smoother than on other videos i've seen. The movement of characters and ships all seemed unrealistic and choppy or weightless. This seems soooooo much better. I don't know if it's your settings or you're running a much newer version, but it actually makes me want to give the game a try.
Having at least 32 GB of RAM, turning off e-Cores if you have a newer Intel processor, using at least an RTX-2000 series graphics card or newer, and not below the xx70 models, and _mandatory_ using an SSD, especially an M.2 NAND if your MB has a slot for one. These are the _actual_ specs to run SC well, forget the "minimum" their website claims.
I just started. Been playing for 3 days. I watched the Zero to Hero videos from H.O.I.D. and it reminded me of the no-holds bar gaming from my time in Ultima Online in 1998 (I'm old). Loving it so far.
Haha, I was in Junior High playing Ultima Online from beta to release. Absolutely great times in the wild, and this definitely has a similar sense of danger, but a loooot less pvp. Pvpers in Star Citizen exist but a lot more rare than Ultima Online. Wow, great memories!
@@tomiisan8g155 I had just gotten out of the US Navy. I started playing while looking for my 1st civilian job and got totally hooked. Corp Por, Kal Vas Flam, meant.... run away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@kingknossosthebull9796 Ohhh man! I just remember trying to mine and make armor for myself, then just getting insta popped, and robbed. Multiple multiple times. I did have to turn to the dark side...
I say this only with curiosity and no hostility at all, I promise. I want to understand this game and what people love about it. I confess some lack of knowledge about its development beyond the gripes people have about how long its taken, etc. I think I also heard that fans of this game are defensive of it because of bad faith and aggressive critics who are more interested in making people feel bad because of the things they like, so I want to get ahead of that and say that I am not some troll who wants to make star citizen people mad. I can definitely understand how people love the ambience, and the art style, and the bucolics, and the ships. The ships especially are sick, lovingly designed, all the animations and the way everything is physically interactable, it's clearly lovingly made. I acknowledge as well that the purpose of this video is to play through parts of the game that are more mundane if I understand correctly, and that it isn't a finished game either. But I watch this video and it seems to include more or less indistinguishably all the features and the gameplay loop that Starfield has for example, only it was critically panned. It kind of just seems like all there is to do is go this way, go that way. Maybe to a more or less empty badlands style planet or something. Take an elevator to a bunker, nothings really in there, snoop around some crashed ships which seem to clip around the environment. again I know this isn't the flashy stuff, but is it the run of the mill average experience of the game? I feel like surely I am missing something. I'm a big TTRPG guy and I know Matt Colville loves this game, and he's a brilliant game designer. If he likes the mechanics of this game, surely there is something to it, some gameplay loop which 'reinforces the fantasy' as he would say, and I'm looking for it. I noticed you picked up that ship's gun to sell it. Is that where a lot of the game is? selling stuff to other players? to an NPC? What do you do with the money? I don't know anyone who plays this, and with all the updates and assumed knowledge of a game this niche, I have a hard to getting answers by looking myself so I thought I'd ask. Again, not raining on anybody's parade. Any answers I'd appreciate. Thanks y'all.
You're not missing anything. Feel free to try the game during one of its free to play events. Its creators and community are obsessed with simulation of the inane, prioritized over technical competence, stability or any semblance of fun. They'll go nuts that you can drop litter in some dirt patch and there's a small chance you'll find it in the dirt the next morning (assuming the servers didn't glitch out), but how that leads to any kind of entertainment is not really a problem anyone seems bothered to solve.
I love the idea of SC, the only issue is the crazy time it's taking to finish. That being said, I find myself playing more and more, even with the bugs and wipes. That being said, the cutty black is the 2nd ship I buy in game, right after a prospector.
I agree with what you said. Tbh I was starting to feel a bit down about it and starting listening to the negative nancies about it sadly. Thankfully the pilot put out a video talking about his experiences working for them the renewed my faith in the game lol. Currently I have an esperia talon and a cutty black myself. I love the bounty hunting side of things and the talon is fun for that. The cutty is my general purpose ship. And eventually I'll get another ship but I'm not sure which one I'll get. Though it'll be a long time before I get a new one anyways
I’ve stepped away from star citizen to play other releases for a few months, but glad you’re still enjoying. I have flown the cutty black several times and my friend bought one as his first ship, played about 4 times and is now giving it some more time in the oven. Understandable.
*searched for star citizen, saw thumbnail* and now is this the first footage i've ever seen of star citizen :d funny your amazement in the video that so many have never played the game
scrapjet made some videos about this, they disabled to enter NPC fighters a while ago, you can still enter the ships with actual interior, shooting the doors. Only way to open fighters cockpit is softdeath, and then its useless anyways.
So funny when you're talking about how good the game looks, " oh my just look at that" and there's literally a ship phase shifting in and out of a mountain to your right.
Me, I have never fly a ship neither played, but I watch most of your content because it's awesome, keep up to good work! Also this game is probably the game that I'm most anticipated that it keeps getting better, and hoping that one day it gets good enough to make me pay for a package, been waiting for the free to fly date to try it and see how it runs in my machine, but I'm guessing I will have to wait for it to get vulkan and optimized.
no, the real star citizen experience is running around a city in 20fps for 20 minutes tryna find the ship bay, you take 10 minutes to spawn in and find your ship, another 10 minutes trying to get out of the hangar, 20 minutes of wondering if your ship is actually going out of orbit or not, 10 mins of struggling with the controls, warp to a different planet, damage your ship in a stupid way, alt f4
The reason some people watch is to see the state of the game, how it has improved... and if it is worth trying yet. Till then, any desire we have to play, you and other content creators satisfy 😁
Agreed...I couldn't stand the buggy nature of the game any more. After dying 7-8 times by spawning into a wall after waking up, I gave up. Anyone know if it's fixed yet?
Loot hasn’t been good since pre-3.18. I remember during the 2022 Hallowe’en Mask event, I found lots of awesome armour, which was erased by the 3.18 wipes. Since then I haven’t found any helmets or armour worth mentioning. In terms of weapons, I already have so many Railguns and Missile Launchers I don’t bother, but I ALWAYS loot Grenade Launchers when I’m lucky enough to find them. Your ship was NOT safe just because the doors were closed and locked. That player could’ve broken into it with the weapons he had by getting the weapon’s muzzle inside the ship’s shield and shooting 1-2 mags of P4-AR into any door to break it open. I prefer LMGs and Shotguns for door-busting, but the weak-hulled Cutty Black is really easy to open.
Hello my unknown friend. And regards from germany. Thank you very much for making this video. Honestly, after seeing this one it has intriqued me to have another look at SC again. It had become boring and for my patt I thought that I probably will have died in rela life before this endless developement has even come close to being final THE GAME I was hoping for. I wish it‘d be different but the last time I looked into SC was about 2. years ago. It had become way too much pew pew for my taste, but watching you having a truly good time…. liked it and once I have occupational wise the time again I will check my account and update the game. Kind regards and see U perhaps arround in the verse
I believe it's the other way around, if I did play Star Citizen, I probably wouldn't be watching others play it, but I don't even own a PC, so of course I watch people play the games I can't.
I've flown the cutlass black but it simply isn't my kinda ship... I think that's what i'm missing in SC, I tend to use the Constellation as my 'medium-large' ship, but i don't really have a small ship i enjoy flying. I also have an issue with the corsair... the asymmetrical part, yeah, but the rear door is made with hydraulics but have electronic sounds for opening and closing xD So far I go between the pisces medical for my small ship, and pretty much immediately go to a constellation (taurus is what i have) for most other missions. I own a Galaxy with all 3 modules with LTI, and I plan to get a polaris if my org/crew ever gets big enough... I'm a bit of a fan of RSI, so much that i've considered ordering the shirt and hoodie xD I cant wait until the galaxy is done, which shouldn't be that long since most of the ships that size are done, and the only ones that are in progress are either released in the last year or two, or simply aren't small at all. That being said it's probably a year or more out, but it'll be great once it is! I'm enjoying the random gameplay over any kind of 'cool' things everyone else does. Exploring derelicts... for example. Gotta love when players are cool... and don't immediately shoot you :D... oh wait... lol I'm gonna pay a visit to the garden after work :)
What a small world, you love to go on multi-day challenging quests for items and goals AND I LOVE WATCHING PEOPLE, SUCH AS YOURSELF, GO ON MULTI-DAY CHALLENGING QUESTS FOR ITEMS AND GOALS. MY FRICKING MIND IS EXPLODING BECAUSE OF SHEER SATISFACTION ... sir!
I can't wait to play this game at the end of this year. By them perhaps I'll be able to steal a ship like you tried to do. Also planning on teaming up with Ollie, I know you'll probably still be around it'll be an honor joining your team.
How could Starfield be more famous than this game ? I followed Chris Roberts when he developed Wing Commander in the 90's. It was just amazing (dozen of floppy disk 3.5). You had digitized voices, videos, etc... never seen before. All the gameplay took place between the ship and the space stations (no planets to travel through) but it was just amazing ATM. I didn't believe in his Star Citizen project at the time but now I see that he has remained the same, the true pioneer of games set in space. A legend.
Ngl you should do this as a series. I don’t have the game, but I am looking forward to trying it and just getting solid gameplay is something I would love to see.
Yeah it would be pretty scary to enter your ship and find a space monster T-posing inside it and then glitching out through the floor causing the ship to explode.
Sure, lets add another 6 months/ 1 year to the definitive release of the game lmao. There is lots of stuff to do and there will be more but is the game really be finished one day if we keep adding new stuff to it?
what is your pc specs? im downloading the game right now. have a i7 10700f 32 ram m.2 ssd 3060 12gb. i played it before but only had 16 ram.. 32 should be good right?? nice gameplay! looks beautiful!!!
I don't play Star Citizen YET! PC parts on the way and will be joining the verse asap. Haven't built a PC in 15 years or so I think. Got a AMD R9 7950 X3D and an MSI 4090 Supreme Liquid X with 64 gigs of ram on a ASUS Crosshair X670E Hero board. I'm hoping it will handle the game well.
Would love to play Star Citizen, but the game literally crashes within 10 minutes of playing. I load into my hub, walk out to the concourse, and before I can even get to my ship I'm looking at my desktop again... Lame.
Server browsing won't be a thing in star citizen, they'll be using server meshing which will basically overlap servers and people in the area, if a ship blows up theoretically it'll be across all those servers until someone salvages it.
I am one of them who doesn't play, I am a recovering gamer, I play nothing. But while at work, avoiding the mind-numb, this is EXACTLY the video I look for. 'Sour' with DayZ and this kind of video stuff, just love it.
The ole Cutty is the first ship I ever bought and tbh that was like 2-3 days ago! LOL. Saving for an Arrow or Vanguard next possibly, not 100% on what I wanna do but man this game is addicting. So happy I got into it recently. A lot of my motivation to get the game was from this channel :)
As someone who has never played SC yet desperately wants to (my computer is a potato and I don't want to spend thousands on a proper one) I think I can speak for that segment of the poll who said "no" when I say that I pretty much experience the game vicariously through these videos.
Ive not flown the Cutlass Black! I went for the Freelancer initially back around 2016, but the FL really needs an update to compare to the Cutlass nowadays
I am a total loot goblin. I've been doing Mercenary contracts and looting as much as possible. Any abandoned ships may lose their weapons if I'm around.
I'm a total Drake fangirl and the Cutty Black is a solid ship but my favorite remains the Vulture. Waited on it to come out for years and grabbed it the moment I had the chance.
I've never flown any Cutlass 😅I'm more into trading and mining, but was cool to see this gameplay and interactions. The reviving was cool, such a nice guy 😄(being myself shot several times only to be looted), kudos for fairplay. Speaking of looting, i'm astonished you guys leave armor, guns and stuff back. When i go to places i always loot, and selling that afterwards grants quite some money, i've been able to buy a Ursa and a Cyclone MT only with loot money. Maybe pennies for you, but actually worth a bit in the long run. Getting a free vehicle is dope, once i found a semi destroyed titan, could take off with it and stayed in my ships inventory until the wipe, but couldn't repair it. PS: does selling the salvaged ship components got fixed? I have one of my ships full with them and can't sell them anywere, not even in NQA Terminal of Cru-L4...
I always think the same anytime I see any SC youtuber not pick up guns and/or armor that's worth plenty. My guess is they just find it too tedious to be worth it.
@@Wolfeygames I heard him once saying he's such a loot goblin. Maybe he skips it when streaming/making videos to simplify, or then he has a total different concept of looting than us 😅
You may be surprised. I've played on a 2080 and a 6800k for quite a bit. Just don't be an fps snob and you'll be fine. Even the fastest computers barely break 40 fps in some of the major cities
@@TheGreat_BA_Clay your CPU will be the most likely bottleneck and the memory the second. All that assuming that you have an SSD. Without that, you really can't run SC
I’m one of the people who hasn’t flown a cutlass black. Just never been big on how it looks tbh. And nowadays I really just fly my prospector and mine on planets. If my buddies are on we take out a reclaimer. Getting ready to enjoy the Zeus as a possible driver for when I’m not mining. (Big Arrastra hype over here)
@@Thegamingdino133 i hear everyone call this game a scam, just started looking into it. what is wrong with this game. and i just bought starfield, hoping its good, but this looks kindof cool
@@voltic1499 It looks great but after so much time thats all this game has. There is no substance other than a pretty looking tech demo. The game has no style to set it apart. The gameplay is so barebones and janky. Its been underdevelopment for years and still hasnt got anything to show for it.
@@Thegamingdino133 I actually got here because of Starfield. It's just such a lazy corporate turd that I wanted a proper space game and saw Star Citizen. Starfield is not even a space game. It's just fast travel 300ft away from a guy you have to talk to or a gang you have to shoot. Rinse and repeat. I saw sleeping bags outside on a planet that's -200C temperature and solar radiation warnings. Just absurd.
the ship you took the c-778 cannon from was a aegis vanguard harbringer and the missiles with a lightning symbol is tracking your electricity of your ship so flares dont work i just usually hiy U
Server Browsing makes now sense (to me) in what's supposed to be a fully-online-streaming all-players-in-one-sharded server environment... maybe I'm thinking they didn't say it was gonna be A SINGLE UNIVERSE.
I never played Star Citizen, because i can't afford it :( , so i watch your videos playing it, cause it's the only way to expirience it somehow. I want to play it so bad tho.
Never been in, let alone flown, a Cutty. I went from from a Titan starter directly to a Vanguard Sentinel and an Eclipse bought with real $$...then added a C8X as a get-around ship.
How heavily is gravity simulated in this engine? Does is matter much in fuel usage for instance? Do your travel trajectories get distorted? Do ships need to rotate around each other to avoid attracting in formations? Etc...
I haven't seen a lot of star citizen footage. Can someone explain what is there to do in the game? Honest question. Do you lose your things when you die? Your ship? Is it PvPvE?
I loved this game, played for like a week then refunded because I was tight on cash and needed the $90 back. Going to be downloading again soon, can't wait to jump back in! This game is truly something else.
i have never played star citizen myself but it is my number 1 game i want to play. now i have to upgrade my pc before i can think about buying this game, but if/when i upgrade this i feel will be in my top 3 games of all time.
Sometimes you can shoot the canopies or doors to open them. You may have to shoot them a lot though. May not be a good idea to shoot them with a rail gun... lol
I feel this.....as a small creator and newer channel Star Citizen can really be hard to record for. I'm not full time and have a day job so when I get home nothing is worse than getting armored up and ready to go only to get to your mission and have a 30k....pretty much wiped out my whole evening as it's usually to start over. Cheers to this style!
Your laugh is just amazing. You such an awesome guy. Btw as for the poll you did the other day, I am one of the 40% that don't play this game because I don't have a decent laptop/pc so I get my fun by watching you play it lol Love from Wales bro 🏴🏴🇬🇧
Interesting to me how the Cutty Black's daily driver counterpart, the Freelancer, beats it in the numbers in pretty much every single way, but it's the Cutty that everyone has or has flown at least a dozen times and thinks of as Ol' Reliable. Is it that it's cooler looking?
I work with someone who loves to watch videos on Star Citizen. We get into conversations about the game every other weekend shift I get. I asked him if he wanted to join my disorder and join up with my friends, and I was surprised to discover he had never played the game. It turns out he doesn't have a computer with necessary specs to play it. 😮
cutlass black is kinda like the farm truck of star citizen. it hauls, and it's almost too useful. but it's not the sports car you show off to your friends.
I always saw the Nomad as the Space pick-up truck, Its the only ship I own and have been loving it so far. I just haul a ROC around in the back and farm away ^_^
I have not flown a cutlass! In fact, I have not flown any of Drakes ships. I have the Mule. I went from a Titan to a Freelancer, then to the MSR and i love it!
The reason I watch your Star Citizen content, even though I don’t play it, is because, while SC is fascinating and looks to be an amazingly awesome game, I seriously doubt it would run (very well) on my PC. I thoroughly enjoy watching its’ progress; but it always seems not quite right or ready to buy.
Awesome vid. And to what you said, some games i only like to watch, like dayz or rust and also this one. Always seems to recomend you for this one :D GG
i only have the aurora, haven't flown anything else. Thought I would spend a few months building up from the most lowly position to a slightly less lowly position!
The 6% who had only played SC once had probably had a bad day like a patchday or even worse a free fly event with patch day and then some event like Xenotreat or the like and some sale event. These are phases where it's hard to get into the game and if you do, you can't have any fun thanks to low server FPS, extreme bugs, massive 30k's, etc. So I can well imagine that some people only tried it once and then didn't come back. However, this is the big mistake by CIG, that they combine such stress tests with free fly events and combine them with other events and patch days. These are players and also potential pledgers that CIG loses this way.
I am not sure about this but every time I see you try to steal a ship you always shoot the pilot first. From what I understand (and I could be totally wrong on this), you have to open the doors or canopy first by shooting them open. You just keep shooting the canopy until it opens. You did the same thing on the F8 when you tried to steal it. Maybe it only works on doors/hatches but I have always seen people shoot them open. I recommend watching some ship-stealing videos to see if I am correct. ... and it could be that USED TO BE the way to do it but they patched it. ... oh, and except the Idris. You have to clip into that one.
Yes they locked down the stealing of ships which is a pain when the ship is abandoned on a pad you simply want to move it out of the way so you can refuel. I wish abandoned ships have a timer that if you do not return to it within like 2 hours then it gets marked as a derelict and you can break into it.
I tried it... The flight controls and simulations work well, however the opening gameplay first person character was laggy and unresponsive, the part where your character is on foot walking through the city still does not work. I have an i8 system with 64 gig ram and a 200 Meg cable connection. so sorry no excuses on my part, Star Citizen has too much clutter causing lag for first person on foot. I recommend they look into how No Man's Sky works. I love the concepts and goals of this game but as of July 15th, 2023 it still does not work on foot.
its nice to watch this sort of gameplay, I cant play because of the constant stuttering. And to think I upgraded my system a couple of years ago for SC, now I cant even play it.
All other space sims should be ashamed of themselves. Shout out dangerous elite tho damn i loved it on ps4. Thanks for the introduction to space sims, you rock.
