Just an update that happened on Friday prior to the videos release, The Baxi rep has been really helpful and is doing his best to resolve the situation. I installed a new water heater and all is good now with this job from the customers perspective. I also installed some different stats on the immersion heaters on the unvented job and the temperature is now above 60. I will test the old ones to ensure they are faulty and see if the unnamed manufacture (not Baxi) is interested in helping, thanks for all the support as always guys
We should all name and shame those who hang us out to dry with THEIR manufacturing faults and sh#te/non existent back-up!. They do not deserve out buisness. Warmflow had me: Leaking boiler on a new cleaned and inhibited system, everything done to the book. Their guy came out, said it was a common problem he saw regular and would refer paperwork back to the office for replacement. Long story short they never came good.............. Crap product and company avoid them. 😞
Your right mate, if a product has a common issue it could be deemed as not fit for purpose and should be recalled, I am still waiting for a response from the cylinder manufacturer after asking for a billing address and I will update when I can
Hi Tom, just let them know your you tube channel if they wouldn’t help you before I’m sure they will go out of their way to help you now If not name them m8t …..you have a living to make ….👍👍👍
You just did what a lot of other plumbers won’t show on their videos m8t your not afraid to show your mistakes that’s why people follow you your a good honest working class lad making a living 👍👍👍
Thanks for being real and letting everyone one no that nothing is perfect and we all go through hard times love watching your videos you’re really great plumber keep up the great work and the videos thanks a lot for being real sometimes when this stuff happens I feel like I suck great to know the other people plumbers go through the same stuff thanks for the videos
Thanks for the comment mate, sometimes this can be the most enjoyable job and the worst job all in the same week, the reason we worry about problems is because we care about the job and the customers, thanks for watching, it is greatly appreciated
We’ve all been there mate, manufacturers should be held accountable more often for loss of earnings due to poorly designed or manufactured products, if this was the case they may be a little more “ helpful”! Onwards and upwards mate👍🏻
Been saying the same thing for years! Car dealers get reimbursement under warranty for time to fit fault parts etc.....why shouldn't other trades ???....sadly profit before qaulity is the name of the game nowadays....Great content showing the ugly side of the job 👍 tommorows another day....keep going you might start earning some big ad revenue? Don't forget to make up an Amazon affiliate tool list too👌...stuff like your bucket is golden advise for everyone....
Thanks for the support mate, I think some manufactures use a get out in their terms that they are only responsible for replacement parts and not time, I don't see how this is fair, if something is not fit for purpose any non-installer faults should be paid by the supplier or manufacture. I should be able to charge at my normal hourly rate to fix their product, I am insured for design so could claim off my insurance but it's not worth it for relatively small amounts of money. I'm sure my insurance would no doubt counter claim against the original supplier for their loss
Fair play showing those open tees mate but like you've said before, if you ain't paddling you're not plumbing" and tbf we've all been there. Hope you have a better week next week!!
We all need a rant sometimes Tom, it's human nature. With reference to the click clack wastes - I buy a pack of 10 inserts from Amazon and just swap the mechanism. Hope you have a stress free weekend mate 👍
Thanks mate, this one in the video wasn't jammed to bad but the others I've changed wouldn't release to change just the top part, even with the waste removed I still couldn't get the thing to budge, thanks for the support as always mate 👍
Don’t worry about having a rant Tom, does you good, my old boss used to say you need two thing to be a plumber, a bag of tools and a bag of miracles, and wasn’t he right, a frustrating trade, that’s why we love it . 🤪👍 take care. 👍🚽
Thanks for the support mate, your right about it being a frustrating trade I just wish manufactures would take more responsibility for their problems, it would make the job so much easier
Great video mate. Frustrating when the problem is faulty gear and you don't get support and the costs from a re- visit. Letting the world know helps vent all frustrations and can in some cases resolve issues. Hope you have a much better week ahead . :)
Sounds like a bad week there Tom, looks like if it can go wrong it went wrong for you. I hope the manufacturer helps out with the cylinder problem. A great film shows it’s not all smooth sailing. Take care mate, cheers 👍👍👍
Thanks for the support mate, I'm still waiting for a response but I will have the stats tested to prove they are faulty, we will wait and see what they do but hopefully they are willing to help
You’re nice 👍 bloke , Tom . Please 🙏 look after yourself, that ceiling contains small amount of asbestos it’s an artex , jobs you do is stunning, don’t rush for anyone your health and stress, comes first . All the best to you .
Thanks mate, the ceiling was just a papered ceiling so contained no asbestos. Before any big job I always pay for a full survey, If you look back on some of my older videos you will see random holes in walls and ceilings, this is where samples have been taken before work can start. I really appreciate the support mate, thanks for watching as always.
Friday night on the couch ….. spent all night watch Tom ….fitted Boiler today and a few repairs. Then watch Tom all night ….the missus thinks am loosing the plot ….she doesn’t understand lol 😂😊
I'm in a completely different trade, however i enjoy watching videos like this as it confirms that everyone else endures these kind of issues as well, and they do seem to come at once sometimes. Some guys are so laid back they simply couldn't give a F about their customers, that's just not me either, i wish it was sometimes as it does play on your mind. The annoying thing is 99% of these issues are out of our control, yet we spend our own time and money sorting them, you have to when your the business owner, but i wouldn't have it any other way these days, i couldn't go back to working for anyone else. Keep up the good work brother!.
Thanks for the support mate, at the end of the day I will always make the job right for the customers at any expense to myself, the problem is installers don't always get treated like customers by suppliers, so we have it rough on both ends of the stick, thanks for watching
Keep your chin up Tom we all have weeks that dont go right ,the trouble with all electric appliances is they burn out or go faulty well before proven gas appliances.....not a fan of electric appliances....anyway chill out and grab a beer over the weekend 👍🍺
Gas and oil is a more reliable source but often jobs involve changing old units with new, these electric units are widely fitted in most off grid commercial buildings and are generally Ok, thanks for the support as always mate, have a great weekend 👍
Sorry to see you so stressed . We all have these weeks too and it's horrible. I only put in VADO push button basin waste and they are amazing. Only £15 but worth it. They never let me down. Keep up the good work and thank you for taking the time making these videos.
I feel your pain mate, a lot of the stuff on the market is crap, had a immersion blow out on a unvented cylinder that had been in service about 4 weeks 🤦♂️
It sounds about right mate, I try and buy branded products and do the best job possible but sometimes things go wrong out of my control, thanks for the support mate
We’ve found a lot of fittings to be crap nowadays. From sink wastes to toilets being cast wrong with wonky shapes coming out of the factory so your toilet doesn’t fit the pan connectors tight enough to make a seal. Even had the odd copper fittings Mis shaped. To top it off. My brand new Kia 22 plate car has been sat in the dealership after breaking down 9 weeks ago. They can’t get the parts and really don’t seem bothered. So yeah manufacturers need naming and shaming at times.
We all have these times but it will be all sorted and forgotten about in a few weeks mate. Just do your best and that's all you can do, unfortunately customers don't realise its out of your hands sometimes. And it's the manufacturers problem if its a manufacturers fault.. keep us updated.
Your right mate, these things do happen and it's how the issue is resolved that is important, because these jobs were in commercial buildings, I get put under massive pressure to get them sorted. Thanks for the support and I will update when I can
name and shame manufacturers on plumbing forums and let them know you are doing so name make and model . for word this to the MD and complaints tell friends in the game let people know if in merchants speak to them let guys in the que know wot shite service you are getting just a thought.
@@billpalmer2381 I just have to be a bit careful and give company's a chance to respond, to be fair on Baxi they are dealing with the problem, but the cylinder company don't seem bothered, I will update when and if they respond
Your right Matt, I just wish manufactures would be more helpful in getting things sorted, it doesn't hurt to respond to emails even to acknowledge there may be an issue, thanks for the support mate
Nice one Tom , if the product lets you down it's not your fault but everyone blames the installer and the installer has got to put it right , sometimes it's a no win situation and you wonder if it's all worth it , just got to put it behind you and plod on..... 👍
Thanks for the support mate, manufactures should take more responsibility for their products and installers should not have to bare the costs for defects, unfortunately most only offer parts and are not willing to cover time which in my opinion is wrong, thanks for watching as always
Clicker wastes - I point out their problems to the customer and very strongly recommend old fashioned waste with poly plug! I've even had to say I wouldn't guarantee a clicker waste beyond a month - especially in a holiday let where sand wrecks them!
Your probably right mate, I find the ones I fit to be normally quite reliable, but these ones were rubbish. I am always happy to sort jobs out under warranty as it's not the customers fault, I just wish the manufactures would look after installers as is if we were customers and sort issues out when they arise, thanks for the support mate
That’s a pretty bad week! Hopefully, the one following is brilliant! It does seem that there are more and more poor quality bits being supplied of late - I wonder if it’s a consequence of manufacturing being hit by covid, or if it’s a trend now. Finally, thanks again for another excellent video - your channel really should have many thousands more subscribers, as it’s outstanding.
Thanks Steve, I think covid has had an effect but I also believe products are just made cheaper there is less quality control. My biggest issue is there is no real support to installers when issues arise, simply providing parts for us to install at our own expense is not fair, thanks for the support as always mate, it is greatly appreciated 👍
I'm not a big fan of air testing especially at high pressures, it can be very dangerous to test with air if not done correctly, generally most things I do don't leak so water testing is my normal preference, thanks for watching mate
I work for a big gas company and we have pretty much cut of ties with baxi. They never came out to the warranty jobs. We’ve stopped fitter their boilers now.
To be honest I've never had an issue with Baxi support before, in this case I feel they could have been a little more proactive in getting the issue sorted, thanks for the support mate
Feel your pain with those clicker waste mate fitted 32 in a new build site and more than half have been changed within the year because they have jammed shut
There terrible things, its only just recently I have had any real problems. I think alot of the merchants own brand ones are manufactured by the same company and just boxed differently. It could be there is a problem with these and if I'm honest the products should be recalled and plumbers reimbursed for their loss, thanks for the support mate
Sometimes you wonder why new things come along. Click-clack wastes are one of them, they’re just rubbish. Tenants at all the holiday lets around here are always complaining about them. I keep a supply of those black plastic plugs with the pull loop on them, does the job.
Your not wrong mate, I find they should normally last at least a couple of years before issues start, these were quite new so it's annoying to replace them so soon, thanks for the support as always Martin
Had this recently with water heater stats ..I changed the internal stats for rod type ..unvented mega flow ..the push fit type of stats , tricky to line up the spade connecters but they went up to 72 °c
I changed the stats tonight for some different ones and the cylinder now reaches 62.5. I am going to test the old ones and see if they are indeed turning off at 54, it will be interesting to see as they shouldn't really be sold if they don't reach 60, thanks for the support mate
I know others have mentioned it but once again, wear a mask to protect your lungs, there is some seriously bad shit in drilled dust as well as asbestos, silicates are a serious hazard. Take care of yourself, we need the videos you are making! 😬🤔👍
Could you not get the manufacturers out to change the elements as its not an install fault but a manufacture fault? Keep up the good work mate, us plumber have to stick together
I did speak to them about this, but they are only responsible for supplying parts and not labour, I have asked for a billing address but they are yet to respond. I still need to test to make sure the original supplied stats are defective and if they are I will be pushing for a full product recall. The product is WRAS approved and must reach 60 to kill bacteria, I will update when I know more, thanks for the support mate
Feel your pain & stress with your week; makes 1 doubt one’s professionalism & beat one’s self up!I’m obsessive bout taking pics of all works 1st fix etc so I can look back & check what I did! I’m finding more & more that quality control of products has become very poor & having to replace stuff course no one is going to pay! Re those clicker wastes, yep, I always say if customer supplies ie £10 ones, that they will fail soon so I can reasonably charge to replace or I insist & use Mcalpine or Bristan only as used in my house to test & still good after 2 yrs! Trouble with the design is relies on tiny bit of wire & spring; I push in some silicone grease into mech as well when fitting!
I like the idea of silicone grease in the mechanism, I might start doing that myself. I can't believe I forgot about the tee's above; I try to take pictures but sometimes things still get forgot, I'm lucky there was no damage done. Thanks for the support mate, it is very much appreciated as always
Shit luck and no luck haha that's usually what happens to me. Your not the 1st mate and I'm sure you won't be the last. 😁 Great Post, just goes to show.... it never rains It pours! It'll all blow over soon pal! Chin up on to the next 1, easier said than done sometimes. Older ya get the more you'll realise that pal.
@@PlumbLikeTom they are mate, they’ve got a plastic mech rather than brass and they are a two part that fix together with a bolt rather that a back nut
We've all had the good week & then a shit week, you looked proper stressed mate, nothing wrong with a good rant, you could've done a job 100x over, that one time it goes wrong will piss you off, head up mate, you do alot of positive work & content for the RU-vid plumbing community, takes balls to film, clip, edit, do commentary & post it, whilst still doing a full time job, life is especially stressful atm, but your doing a positive thing pal, I've been a plumber for 6 yrs, follow all the guys on RU-vid & pick up tips & hints off all of them, especially yours, so yeah we all have good & bad days/weeks, it's how we come thru them, you wouldn't believe how people actually sit & wait for your vids to drop cuz it brings them entertainment & joy, good luck with everything bud
Thanks for the kind comment and support mate, I honestly don't get too many days where I don't love my job. I think the only reason problems stress me out is because I care about my customers and the trade in general. When manufactures are less than helpful and show no care it frustrates me, ultimately I'm there customer and they should be helping me. Thanks for watching as always mate, it is greatly appreciated 👍
Hi Tom, great video! I was wondering if it would be possible to get to get hold of you some how for some advice from you on a commercial job I’ve been asked to look at?
They never paid despite saying they would cover my labour, they did give me the immersions for free which you would expect anyway as they were faulty. I have never fitted another one of their cylinders and never will, thanks for watching 👍
It is really annoying, I decided to just order another unit as I was not willing to leave a commercial building with no hand wash facilities for another week, obviously this leaves me out of pocket but my reputation and customer service is more important than money, hopefully Baxi will be willing to cover some of the costs, thanks for watching mate
I changed the stats tonight for some different ones and the cylinder now reaches 62.5. I am going to test the old ones and see if they are indeed turning off at 54, it will be interesting to see as they shouldn't really be sold if they don't reach 60, thanks for the support mate
Go home and have some nice food and a few cold beers and a good sleep and you will feel better for it. Its not your fault its the manufactures just don't use them ever again.
Hi mate, I already attended site and diagnosed the problem, not only does this go down as a call back, I receive no money for this time. My real problem is when manufactures only offer a parts only warranty, they refuse to send an engineer to site and insist it down to me to fit their parts for free, I have sorted both jobs now by fitting a new heater and one and swapping the elements on the cylinder. To be fair on the Baxi heater the rep is hopeful they will cover my costs but on the other job the cylinder manufacture insists it's a parts only warranty and will not pay for any loss incurred by me as an installer. I am yet to name the manufacture as I have disputed this but so far they are unwilling to move
Re the dicky thermostats, don't be afraid to name and shame unhelpful manufacturers.. Send the old ones back to them and ask for a refund of the value. Bit of faf but makes a point. Them just shrugging their shoulders isn't a solution on such an expensive item.
Ive emailed WRAS who certify these products, they must reach 60 in order to kill bacteria, hopefully they are able to test them and possibly have the product recalled, thanks for the support
I think your right mate, I honestly believe there is a manufacturing defect with them because it would be unusual to have both elements turning off on 54. The problem was finding a different stat to fit as there the stupid ones with the clips that hold them in and can vary slightly from different suppliers. The cylinder manufacturer was less than helpful and would not offer any support with the issue which is annoying. All is good now with it but I will test the stats and hopefully try to recover some of my loss with the company, thanks for the support mate
Your right mate, I think Covid did have an effect with manufactures getting components from different suppliers and this still may be the case sometimes. I also think some stuff is designed to fail or not fully tested, the real problem is when they are unwilling to fix their product, I don't see why it should be my loss when it's not my fault, thanks for the support mate
I would hope that a manufacture would offer financial compensation in some way, I have never tried invoicing for defects before and just stand the loss but it seems call backs through no fault of my own are becoming more frequent possibly due to cheaper components being used by some manufactures. I will try and contact the parties involved for a resolution, thanks for the support mate
@@davidceredig-evans8772 I haven't named the cylinder manufacture because they still believe the product is not faulty, I have fitted different stats and the cylinder now reaches 62.4. I will test the originals and will be contacting WRAS to try and get a full product recall as the required temperature is 60
@@paulhughes8724 Thats a fair solution mate, Baxi have apologised which shows they care but the cylinder company have admitted no responsibility and are adamant the stats should reach 60
Often a customer wants a particular style, I have never had any major issues with click clacks before but these may have been a bad batch, the customer is now happy with a flipper waste so as long as there happy I'm happy
