Mazda's design language right now is great, so I am perfectly happy with evolutionary changes to what was already a great looking crossover. It's distinctive and handsome.

The MAZDA CONNECT™ screen shown at the 5:25 mark is a 7" screen. The 4.6" full-color TFT is the Multi-Information Display that is to the right of the speedometer on the gauge cluster on the Touring trim with Touring i-ACTIVSENSE® Package and Grand Touring trim.

I dont see anything wrong with Mazda Connect. And really you need Android Auto or Apple Carplay? I am sure its coming, but they must have spend $$$ developing Mazda Connect, it's not easy to just switch.
@Sami.the.auto.advisor

Mazda has already announced that it will add Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capability in upcoming vehicles... they'd also be offering the connectivity pair as a retrospective upgrade.
@KellicTiger

Mario, What drives me nuts is people who say do you really need X when you haven't used it. AA and Carplay does not run as a replacement to Mazda Connect. It runs on top of it. Ultimately it runs a small app on the host OS that mirrors the application running on the phone. There are a few additional features that it adds in along with mirroring, but that is the basic design of AA and Carplay. The reason people are excited is that the mapping software on Mazda Connect outright SUCKS compared to things such as Google Maps. Not only do you have thousands of real time data points for traffic thanks to users who use Waze, giving you FAR more accurate Time to Arrival (TTA) then Mazda's junk, it's Points of Interest are also far more up to date. I say this as a former 2016 Mazda3 driver, who basically said screw it and mounted a tablet on my dash and used Google Maps after trying to get to a gas station on Mazda's junk only to find a house sitting there. (And this is what updated maps as of a few weeks prior.)
@KellicTiger
@KellicTiger 7 лет назад
No actually they haven't. You have Mazda reps who have said that they are adding it. But no official announcement from Mazda. While that is better than nothing. It would be nice to see an official announcement from Mazda on this to make this a concrete thing.

Serious question: Dave went ON about the CX5! More so than any other shoot we have in the past with him. A solid 30 minutes . . . Would you guys watch that much of two guys talking while driving if Dave pontificates about one car? Serious question looking for serious answers. If not 30 minutes - what would you consider ideal length for the topic?

Thank you so much for this, I've been DYING for more footage of the new CX-5. I like evolutionary changes more because if its not broke, dont fix it. The previous CX-5 was great and I think the evolutionary changes added a lot of needed refinement without starting from scratch with a massive revolutionary overhaul.

I prefer the "evo" aspect over "revo" design. Take what is good and evolve it rather than throw it out for someone else's idea! The CX-5 looks great. I would like to see/hear details of the diesel application here.

I’m of the school of Chris Bangle when it comes to design. Now now hear me out before you grab the pitchfork, I believe in revolutionary design followed by an evolutionary design, then back to revolutionary again & so on. But tha school of thought requires stable management, vision, commitment & most importantly you gotta make each gen unique. I can’t say I remember the old one, but the new one is very handsome. As always, excellent work, M!

They'll need a bigger screen than what they have now... It also seems a bit out of reach to be touch screen as well... this is from test driving both CX 5 & 9. Other than that... they're good vehicles, but the technology is going to cause it an early downfall... or trade in..

I would like to hear more about the option packages. In the new CRV, when stepping up one trim from base level (LX to EX) you get a whole new car in terms of tech. I hope this years CX5 is not like the previous model where you had to go with the tip top trim in order to get the desirable features.

I have a 2016.5 and love it. Mine is a Touring with moon roof and Bose, midnight blue over cream. This thing handles like a car! I live in Portland, OR where we have hills, curves, wet, snow and a plethora of bad drivers in all conditions. The AWD performed flawlessly during our hellish winter weather. Although my Jetta diesel would smoke it, the power is adequate. The comfort is amazing for me (6'4, 245 lbs) with even the head room being plenty with the moon roof. I haven't had the chance to get out and take it on a long trip, so the mileage is horrible (20.6 mpg overall), but in horrible LA-esque traffic, what are you going to do?

I'am a native San Diegan born & raised there and still live in North County now. I know shelter island and Harbor drive really well.My Dad is retired from the US Navy. With that being said I just bought a new 2017 CX-5 Touring AWD. Really love the performance. But I honestly feel that Mazda really needs to step it up and their infotainment system is pretty dated. Them and Toyota being so late to the game and still not supporting Apple Car Play & Android Auto is a big disappointment but was not a deal breaker for me. Best advice I can give to people is if you didn't buy the top of the line Grand Touring model like myself and it didn't come with the navigation system enabled is to go on ebay or amazon and get a genuine oem Mazda GPS SD Card and update it with their free program called Mazda Toolbox where Mazda puts out 2 or 3 free yearly updates.These GPS Navigation Cards are cheap at $60 on ebay. Compared to a dealer trying to sell it you for $175 to $300 range.

I think once companies really find that sweet spot of distinct design, they've just gotta commit to it and let it blossom. Even the average person can tell that a VW Golf from the 80s is related to a VW Golf from today, and they interpret that as "Heritage" which is closely related to "Prestige". Mazda should continue to evolve their current design philosophies, it can only do good things for the brand.
@niborrandoacho
@niborrandoacho 7 лет назад
I would have liked the evolutionary thing if only it had also meant a techy engine like the cx-9. It was trying to be a small cx-9 but the engine didn't follow suit. A lower rev torque engine may have helped the mpg and dynamics too. People love the effortless acceleration of the cx-9.

I think this is a more attractive car than the outgoing model. Much more aggressive front fascia and stance. I will reserve final judgment until I drive one. I always felt that the cx-5 was a bit underpowered, but most of the cars in the class are underpowered. The engine also wasn't the most refined. I'm curious to see if all of the additional sound insulation and the redesign of the pistons will have as big of an impact as the people from Mazda say there is.

Nice look and good handling dynamics. Needs more power - a turbo like everyone else - and more cargo space. Needs a better infotainment screen, better infotainment software. Also get rid of the faux stitching in the interior. Upgrade the interior another step.

@RockScout73

I like the mild exterior update and the interior looks a class above. I really wish Mazda would do a few things to continue to separate it's brand from the competition in this class beside the drive, they win hands down there. Get back in the performance game, the skyactive 2.5T can fit into all but two of their line up. Please Mazda don't keep talking about how well you drive and not give some Zoom Zoom back because you can.....Signature Speed Trim hint hint it's not childish or immature ask Audi, BMW, Acura-Honda the crowd you're chasing. Awd options would be unreal in the -M6,M3 just my 2 bits!!

Everyone is talking about the need for a V6, a turbo or something else like that in this car. Don't get your hopes up. Mazda right now is in a sort of rebuilding stage. They are trying to establish themselves as a "premium (but not luxury)" brand. As such, Mazda has chosen to spend money on interior/exterior build quality and look, comfort, fit and finish, and overall aesthetic appeal. It hasn't been too long since the old ford days of mazda. The company has left ford, and is trying to make a good independent name for themselves while still keeping the zoom-zoom heritage. The engineers believe they can keep the sporty feel of their vehicles even by only offering one engine choice. This is done through good fine tuning of steering, transmission, suspension, etc. Lessening the engine choices for the consumer allows the company to save a lot of money in production, increase reliability, and spend more of the vehicle cost towards aesthetics while not jacking up the price. THIS is what will give the brand the greatest chance of capturing that title of being a premium (not luxury) brand. All these stupid youtube keyboard warriors whining about a V6 or a turbo 4 just don't get the business model of what mazda is doing. Wait a few years, and Mazda will look into offering more powerful engines once they've seen enough growth. If you want a more powerful engine, Mazda MIGHT choose to bring their diesel engine to the American market soon as rumored. But I suspect this will only happen if they believe the engine will sell (no thanks to the volkswagen diesel-gate scandal), and if the profit margins of the new refreshed vehicles they're putting out stays high.

Dave will be sharing a lot about the Diesel model in his stand alone episode. As for this against the All4? You are going to hate me for saying this - but if pressed - I would say I like the driving dynamics of the MINI. You will not be surprised as to why . . . The combo of the manual transmission, stiffer suspension, lower center of gravity and the BMW tuned multi-link rear unit. Keep in mind - they are TOTALLY different vehicles. Now that said, if you said I had to keep it past 5 years? Mazda. You know why.

I think it needs to be REVOLUTIONARY since this is a very competitive segment. Honda is throwing tech (on the ex) and looks in with their new CR-V, Toyota is including safety tech across all the RAV4's. If they are selling so many, why not take that back to corporate and say hey, we need to put way more thought and effort into this vehicle - and here are the numbers that back it.. Be revolutionary and steal those Honda/Toyota customers. It just feels like other companies are stepping on the gas and Mazda is stepping on the brake, or at least letting it coast downhill.

I still prefer the previous model compared to these. the previous model looks more macho. the new one tries to look like the new cx9 which isn't that good looking.

hi guys and thanks for all videos you do, can you do a review for Hyundai Grand Santa Fe, i think is grate Suv and very Luxury. Thanks in advance
@MotoManTV
@MotoManTV 7 лет назад
Too far past the introduction of the Santa Fe models thus won't be able to feature them on the show. For us to do this prudently, we need to feature cars on the show in a timely manner. Shoot a car too late - no matter how good the episode would be - it won't earn enough to cover the cost of production. Hope you understand.

Mazdas are definitely nice but they need to follow everyone else and have some turbo options. It doesn't even have to be a big turbo.

@ocramidajzj

SimpleGamer no they don't need to follow "everyone else". They tried that and almost went bankrupt. What Mazda is doing now is smart and I highly respect their vision and self control not to be like other appliances in the car industry. Honestly I owned a Golf R for a bit and although I was afraid of the switch to the lesser powered 2.5, I've learned over the last 2 years that you really need to know how to drive this car to enjoy it. If you're looking to stamp the accelerator and get pushed back in your seat then you WILL be disappointed. Mazdas are momentum cars and once the 2.5 breaks in it's a sweet engine to hammer on. Using manual mode and paddles really wake this car up and make it a blast through twisties. Stop trying to make Mazda something it's not. Aka a Toyotanissanhonda appliance! :)

I totally love the car, but will choose something other than Mazda because 1) i hate the screen location for the infotainment system. 2) really dislike that there is no Android Auto..

I am convinced that this is better than mainsteam competitors namely CR-V, RAV4 or the one from ford. Mazda just to upgrade their dealership so target customers will start coming.
