Light, fruity, crisp, delicate and now way too expensive for the overall experience. On the nose it's $160, but on the palate it is sub $100. I like how Erin jumped the gun and went right in for the sip.
Thanks for bringing back the international samples. Bourbon gets boring to me. Erin wouldn't go thumbs up but she didn't let you snatch the last couple sips. lol
As other people said, Japanese whiskey is overpriced. It can be absolutely delicious, but it’s overpriced. This one is $200 in Oregon, and the 18 y/o is a whopping $700!!! If you guys have the chance, I would suggest you try Nikka Yoichi . Or Nikka Miyagikyo. It’s Japanese Single Malt, no age statement, and they sell for about $80.
I'm japanese.thankyou for honest review. This bottle cost about $175 in japan.I think it's too high.Because we can buy 15y or 18y scotch single molt at $75.
Erin looks great, we all look great...Everything is awesome when you are part of a team, everything is awesome...ahem, sorry... OK, you look great too Josh!
Erin, I've never seen you when you didn't look good, no matter what colors you were wearing. 🙂 With all those fruit notes I'd expect a barley whisky even if I hadn't seen the title of the video. I've never yet had anything I liked where barley was the dominant grain that wasn't fruity, though I have to point out that my experience is very limited. 🙂
Peter has a great channel. I don’t agree with him on some of his passes but that’s what this is about. I’m a fan of Japanese whiskey really haven’t had a bad one yet. And yes some hover around the Irish whiskey vibe. Enjoy!!
Japanese whiskey is unfortunately horribly overpriced since it blew up a few years back. Unless you are just looking to blow some cash there are better options in almost every other category. Double the price of really nice Irish is a hard pass.
I had the good fortune to try 2 ounces of Yamazaki 12yr for $26 at a bar earlier this year and I gave it a right on the "fence score" of 3.6/5 which made it almost but just shy of being good enough to forgive any faults/weaknesses/whathaveyou in the glass. If I could buy it for $65, than I would consider it fair when compared against everything else I've tried that scored similarly.
Many years ago, I bought a bottle of Yamazaki 18-year for about $60. Before people discovered it, it was a bargain. The 18-year is comparable in quality and style to lighter styles of big brand 18-year Scotch, and it was less than half the price back then. It is an easy-drinking style of whisky and is well suited to beginners. I wasn't as experienced back then, so it was a good choice for me. Now, I would probably find it too tame and watery. Unfortunately, it got discovered, and the price went through the roof. For a long time, even finding anything at all from Yamazaki was impossible. Now, the 12-year is reasonably available, but it is too costly for what it offers. The 18-year is more available as well, but it is absurdly expensive. This evening, I'm drinking Amrut cask strength. These days, this sort of whisky is more my speed. If there is ever a Yamazaki cask strength monster that hasn't been subjected to heavy filtering, then I will be interested.
Agree absolutely overpriced. It is almost only the lowershelf Nikkas, that is worth the money at the moment. Nikka Coffey malt is great for the price for instance.
I was just about to type 'nectarine' when Erin remembered! Sadly, I can remember when Yamazaki 12 cost £65/~$84... and I thought it was slightly over-priced even then! Curse Jim Murray and his Whisky Bible!
If only yall would have been into whiskey way back when. I used to keep this on the shelf regularly for 55$ in PA. It disappeared from PA for a while and came back at 120, now it's 190. Wish I would have bought it by the case.
Although totally well crafted, entirely out of the range of a reasonable price. Your review and notes make perfect sense, but Scotch alternatives of the same level are half the price or less. Hard pass for me.
