A Review of B10: Nights Dark Terror. A BECMI Dungeons and Dragons review #19 

I am running this one for almost two years now. Party started at level 1, they are mostly level 4/5, and are about to go for the final act. This adventure for us was a full campaign. So much to do, in quite a short book. Amazing product, one of the best modules I have ever ran.

I've run the adventure fully once and I also put the Hutaakan Valley in the Isle of Dread in another campaign. So much content. This has everything!

"Night's Dark Terror" seems to be in a lot of reviewer's Top 3 TSR D&D modules...yet I never heard of it while playing in the 1980s! 🤔

No question- Night’s Dark Terror was cleanly written, left characterization of the NPC’s up to you, and was a beautiful “threading of the needle” :) btwn sandbox and dungeon crawl elements. Perfect, & why I still love my Karameikos campaign (even if we never got to most of it!) to this day

Had a copy of this for many years before a basement flood about 8yrs ago destroyed it and so much more. Loved seeing your review and think it was excellently done. Was so surprised to stumble upon your channel just as this video of a module I loved was put up, I will be subscribing to your channel and looking forward to watching your videos as I get the time.

Great adventure this, you can easily stick other Karameikos modules in and around it too if you wanted and have years of campaign time. It's also a great lesson in how to write adventures I think. I loved the Karameikos stuff but this adventure capped them all I think.

REAL Adventurer parties start in Threshold! 😀 Gaz1 has more info on the town. This is my absolutely favorite TSR module. Even moreso than my beloved B2. I ran this start to finish a few years back. It took close to a year to finish. The only thing I can say against it is that It is SO tied to Karameikos, that it would be really hard to port to a different setting. The siege was an utter blast to play out!

Another excellent review, thanks very much. I ran this adventure back in the day for my party and even had one of the characters captured and sold at a slave auction. The rest of the party had to buy him back. They absolutely hated Gulthar by the end because he always somehow managed to escape them. Potentially you could change his name to Bargle for some continuity with the Red Box set and connect the Iron Ring to the Black Eagle Barony I might even have done that, it was so long ago now...

Decided to go ahead and get the Print on Demand. Just started reading it today. Really digging it so far.

Vipers. Everytime I see or hear that it reminds me of the Soprano's where they beat up the Vipers MC members and mock them "We're da wipers."

Started running this with a group of five 4th level characters in 5th ed. this summer - tying some plot in from their previous adventures. It's great fun with lots of compelling situations so far (they're at the gates of the Wolfskull lair). My two main comments so far: 1) The early action follows a strict prescription of timing and spacing and the DM needs to be flexible if the players get out of sync 2) There's really no reason for the players to run into some of the wilderness crawl locations so the DM might want to think of how they get intel about the situation after the siege - maybe a goblin surrenders but lies to them about where the other tribe's lair is? You'll get the most out of this if you think about the bad guys' logical next move and how you can drop clues so the players don't just tramp around the woods for days rolling random encounters.

It's hard to believe this wasn't a box set for the amount of adventuring material you describe

I'm a newer DND player, so obviously I haven't heard of this adventure before. But I have run Dragon of Icespire Peak from the DND 5E Essentials Kit and in that there is a homestead where they took HEAVY inspiration from the Sukiskyn one. Pretty interesting how this old map was repurposed into a very modern one!

Definitely one of the best. If you do seek out an original copy, make sure it is complete.

I feel like you could combine this and B5: Horror on the Hill. So you run B5 first to level them up then when they're ready you send them down the river to this module.

I'm really into running this one. But my group is very into 5e. How hard would it be to adapt it? I mean the challenges are on par with 5e PCs? Anyone knows of a 5e conversion for this on the interwebs? Loved the review. And the memes😅

I was planning to do a reskin of Lost Mine of Phandelver to Old-School Essentials but someone turned me on to Night's Dark Terror. We have a Cleric in the group who has a deep backstory that invloves Drow and my question was - does this adventure have a way to insert Drow into the storyline so I can keep the Clerics backstory intact? In LMoP a major hook is the Drow which works perfectly with her Cleric, but if B10 has a way to insert Drow into the storyline, I may take a look at this adventure.

Can this adventure be ran in another setting other than Mystara? Can it be reskinned to fit something like Greyhawk?
