Hi Since recording and uploading this ‪@Mr_Welch‬ has upload a video on this module that confirms that I did infact see this as B/X1 as a kid!
We have recently played through this module and I thought I would share my thoughts on it.

I think it's the most versatile adventure I've played. It has it all. And there are countless possibilities for creating side plots. I hope Goodman Games will consider reprinting this fantastic adventure.

Re: Difference in the description of Threshold...maybe just perspective? I say the family room is a mess of toys and books. My boys say it's fine. Perspective difference. 😏

This would be an interesting way to describe areas revisited during a campaign. As the adventurers begin, everything is "big" and "clean" because that's what they know, especially if they are fresh from the farm. But after exploring the wonders of the Known World, including a real city like Specularum/Mirros, the party will see Threshold as the two-bit town that it is.

@@riotangel914 Yes! Or the reverse, having come from small villages Threshold seems a seething mess, but after seeing larger and worse-kept cities they realize how good it really is.

DriveThruRPG has some nice products. I own four of their print on demand books: Rules Cyclopedia, Grand Duchy of Karameikos, Principalities of Glantri, and Dawn of the Emperors: Thyatis and Alphatia. The quality is really good. Id like to eventually acquire all the gazetteers and materials linked to Mystara and the Rules Cyclopedia. This one seems very interesting and is on the list of modules to get.

We have been playing this since February and are just at the end in the Temple. It is brilliant, the party have really enjoyed it, loads of chance for roleplay encounters, especially with the last act. The siege was fantastic, the party basically treated it al la Rorkes Drift. I missed this first time round, glad to found it now. Would love Goodman Games to treat it to 5th ed

Damn Barrow...you do a great review and fair assessment! It's not a perfect adventure (the homestead siege is a meat-grinder) but it's a classic for a reason. Subscribed...now more module reviews please! 👍🏼

Nice review. Interesting you said Threshold seemed more Warhammer in this as the module was effectively rewritten (by most of the same writers) as Death on the Reik for WFRP. As for Threshold - it's a bit of a mess. The Gazetteer further complicates it by increasing the size by tenfold. I would just pick the version most appropriate for your campaign - either the UK-written dirty medieval town, or the US-written clean small city. I would to love to run this module in conjunction with the AD&D Slave Lords modules and have a grand campaign fighting the Iron Ring across Karameikos and the Sea of Dread. Needs work, but could be epic.

Interesting idea incorporating the Slave Lords modules. I'll have to check that out, as I'm not familiar with them.

@@riotangel914 It would definitely need a lot of work as the Slave Lords modules are all dungeons and set in Greyhawk (and designed for AD&D!). It picks up one of the adventure ideas at the end of B10, that the Iron Ring are seeking revenge on the PCs. I think you could also add X12 Skarda's Mirror as well, as that works on a similar theme. Perhaps Skarda was one of the Slave Lords? It might make a bit more sense of his crazy plan!

X1 was "The Isle of Dread," so that title was already taken and I don't think they would use a double identifier anyway since the letter-number code provides a concise and unique way to identify a module or other supplement. So no, this was not also X, just B10, though it was supposed to be a transitional module.
