X11, a 64 page BECMI era D&D module. Twice as long as other related BECMI modules, this one almost runs as a choose your own adventure module with a couple diverging paths, and the players choices will decide how difficult this module will be.
You can get this print on demand for $8.50 or get a pdf for $5 USD at the time of this writing (June 2021)

This module always felt like it would have been better as the conclusion of an Basic-Expert campaign set in Wendar, where the players could have some connection to the land, and some investment in what was going on there (and perhaps could be on hand for some of the decay--or, for example, begin their Basic adventures in Wendar, go traveling for early Expert adventures, and return home only to be confronted with the problems at hand). A number of the less "rooted in Mystara" B modules could fit nicely in Wendar, too (B7 (Rahasia) seems tailor-made, B3 could be adapted to fit with the Shadow Lord backstory with very little change, and so on).

I love that the old school stuff I grew up on can still inspire even 5E adventure ideas. Thank you sir, for bringing these to my attention!

Despite what the module says; Wendar and Heldann Freeholds and Denagoth. The regions do not feature is MYSTARA which came later. X11 is

So perhaps the Shadow Lord's attack on those elves forced them to send the elvenstar to safety as at the time he was still alive so its full effect wouldn't work on him. Being repelled from Wendar caused his eventual return as undead with the eventual rise to a full lich if not stopped. So when they first enocunter him he's clearly undead and the use of the elvenstar causes him to evaporate becoming a wraith for the second part where he's seeking a new host body with that Staff of Undeath being able to destroy him completely. Certainly plenty to think about. Many thanks just picked this up curious to see how this might work!

They stuffed a lot of stuff into one module, though a lot of it was left unexplained, but still, a decent adventure, especially at DMsguild prices

Awesome overview. Gotta use this for my B/X-OSE group. Seems like a meat-grinder. What character classes are a must for a group to get through this?

I would definitely say that having a thief class or two involved would be useful, plus maybe a wizard who focuses on illusions, but really there no "must have" character class. The only "must have" is creative thinking

Post your videos on the Facebook old school d&d groups. I bet you would pick up hundreds of extra subs easy.

I limit my posts to those groups to about once a week, I dont want to be constantly hawking my channel there, plus I've only been really releasing videos for the past month or 2, so 200+ subs ain't bad.

I've DM'd this module twice. Despite the clunky transition between the two parts it was fairly enjoyable. However, I feel it held a lot more potential and to some degree it's largest flaw are some missed opportunities to make it truly great.

I agree. It appears to have all the necessary plot parts to make it great, I think however that Mr. Bourne tried to fit too much into 64 pages.

@@TheLostAdventurer Yeah, I feel there's at least one Gazetteer's worth of potential there. And the maps of the locations could have been given more work. We already know that TSR could make some fine interior maps, just look at Quest for the Heartstone or the Dragonlance modules.

I'm reading through this one right now! The fact that it has 2 adventures that basically only have a penciled in connection is odd. The two parts feel like they could be separate adventures that deserved more space each.

Yeah, I came to quite the similar conclusion, I'd actually be half a mind to make it a future adventure tweaked to make it a bit harder, rather then an immediately after adventure

Hey! You're about mid-level right? Pretty good but not really ready for your own domain? Want to save a dying kingdom despite us almost certtainly having more qualified people on hand?
