On our way back down to Arizona in late September we were told we had to go check out "Thunder Mountain Trail" near Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah. It is the most beautiful ride we have done so far. We were constantly overwhelmed by the views... we were taking our time and stopped a lot to take it all in. We typically ride in the mornings but decided to try a late afternoon ride and it was well worth it! The golden glow at that time of day was breathtaking.
The route is simple. Stay on Thunder Mtn Trail until you reach the bottom. We continued right on Thunder Mtn which took us down a fun, fast, flowy singletrack back to a parking lot and bike path that takes you back up. The bike path is SUPER EASY to climb. It was nice and gradual -- not very steep at all. We were glad to have parked at the top of the trail so we had plenty of energy at the start of the ride. Would also be a fun trail to shuttle if you plan on doing laps.
Brent did this ride on his 2019 Megatower 160mm front and rear travel. Malia was on her Rocky Mountain Pipeline with 140mm travel front and rear. You could ride this trail on any bike from XC, mid-travel to enduro and you'll enjoy this ride. It has a little bit of up and down on the trail so downhill bikes are not ideal. This trail is nothing XC bike riders can't handle as long as you have intermediate skills. This trail was realistically an intermediate-level trail and we would have rated it a solid blue, not black. There were just some exposure and technical switchbacks, but it wasn't too bad.
