@@ProperHonestTech Hi, first time watching your vids, what creepy me out was that it seems ur eyes and head was following me around the room. Even on pause. How do you do that
@@ProperHonestTech how can I switch off notifications for a certain duration and switch it on automatically via shortcuts? Tried using focus modes but it didn’t really worked
I have seen numerous presentations on IOS 18 AND this person does the best presentation by far. He is not rushed, explains everything in detail. suggest you pass this file on to your friends, they too will love this.
I’ve seen several IOS 18 feature videos and this one was, by far, the most concise and most helpful out of all of them. Thank you very much for putting this together.
Hidden apps is a great way for people to cheat on their spouse! I don’t really get why this app is even on here. Maybe banking info? But idk what makes the hidden apps useful other than sneaky stuff.
@@matthewdelano1441 I use it for my banking apps and also my business banking apps since I am a business owner. I dont want ppl to see I own businesses or even the chance that they somehow open the app from a glitch and see how much money my biz has
I just want a volume mixer for iOS. So if I’m in a discord call and want to watch a video I can turn down the volume of the video. This seems like such a basic feature.
I would use it to turn everything down and the maps navigation up. What good is navigation if when it says something, you can't hear it as it is 1/4 the volume of the music you were listening to. Hopefully they fixed that with 18.
Android has had that forever. I’m on iPhone but use to be Android until Galaxy 9 when I switched. Was surprised there wasn’t as many options as Android
@@adam.gibson It's been adjustable for a long time, it's just not obvious. If you adjust the volume during navigation speech, it will adjust the navigation speech volume. If you wait too long you will miss it though, try to get it while it's talking.
I'm not an Apple user at all but watched this because I'm usually that guy that gets asked how to fix stuff. Just wanted to say your presentation is excellent!
finally, an actual useful video with well done editing to make following along easy. As someone who also doesn't take shortcuts, i really appreciate this video. 99% of videos on youtube have crap audio balance, bad editing and boring topics yet have 5 million views somehow. RU-vid should pay more attention to quality work...
as an android user i am just glad they finally gave you guys RCS so you can stop whining about green texts. Everything else added to this update has been on androids for years.
<a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="482">8:02</a> apple is not supporting end to end encryption yet for RCS messaging as they are only implementing the minimum requirements for the standard.
Between telling Apple users 4gb was more than enough ram for years now all the sudden it's not enough. They have been behind the times for years. I use both so I can speak with experience. Sure my iphone is more polished and smooth on apps. But they are years behind . Rcs has been out for 4 years. And iphone refused to adopt it. Now they are forced to and have to catch up with the times.
@@mikecarr1484 No, encryption is not a part of the RCS standard. It’s something Google added on top of RCS. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rich_Communication_Services#Encryption_support
@@mikecarr1484 There has been no „innovation“ in RCS really. Google got tired of waiting for carriers to stop dragging their feet, and did their own implementation.
I'm curious as to why you think this. To me it's just redundant. Why not just create a calendar reminder? That's all I've ever done. So the use case for me I just can't see.
@@aj-1700 that reminder integration with the calendar was on iOS 17.6. I used it a few days ago to set up reminders every day and every 2 days so it's not new. It's really a good features though not gonna lie.
I seriously don’t understand Apple, they getting backward. Sending a file from iPad, some apps don’t appear in options, you sometimes have to click open file in…. Confusing, no translate button in some apps, Apple sucks now but I love their hardware it lasts
Good thing they have an option to exclude them too. Some of us have daily reminders for things like taking pills which make everything else unreadable.
This is by far the best presentation about promoting Apple. These features while some were apparent in other branded devices they are certainly very welcomed to the IOS world. This episode has confirmed my pivoting mind about continuing with the Apple ecosystem. iPhone 16Pro here I come!
In the UK, we call the one that you put batteries in and point at dark areas a ‘torch’. We call the one that you set on fire a ‘torch’. While the might sound confusing, most of us have little need for the ‘set on fire’ variety, which goes a long way to alleviating that confusion.
Nah, it's just not exciting at all. What's there to like? Those minute changes in homepage? Bunch of small random app changes? Apple is not exciting for few years now.
@@jhartt5 Yes, that's why Google developed their solution. No idea why they didn't try to get it incorporated into the RCS standard though. Apple said they would implement the RCS standard so encryption will have to wait until an encryption standard is agreed upon.
I love how Apple once a year comes with this groudbreaking new feature that makes the UX super great, but in fact it was on androids for the last 7-10 years
I did think photos had been spoilt by ios18…but I’ve just had a play around in the photo app and got my app looking almost like it did before the update. Now I have the photo grid, then underneath just the menus that were there before, although the menus are slightly different the photos app isn’t ruined for me anymore.
This was my first time watching one of your videos and I'm blown away! Apple needs to hire you to create iOS feature summaries! I've been an iPhone user since the launch of the first one and with each new iOS release I've always pieced together how to use the best new features from a variety of sources - a true pain. Your video not only discusses the new features but shows how each works succinctly. Fantastic work! 😀👍
@@rumchaser1able Only Android users constantly go to iPhone videos to express their insecurities, iPhone users aren’t even aware of Android videos even existing 😂🤣😆
It was on purpose to discriminate Android users and pressure them to switch to iOS. Just like what he said when he was asked a question "Buy your mom an iphone."
@@masteroogvvayhe is right tho. sms messaging has long been replaced by rcs for a couple years now. a trillion dollar company should have it supported even before.
I love the Apple Ecosystem. I have iPhone, iPad, MacBook and Apple TV. If you haven’t experienced the convenience of this, then you have no idea what you are talking about.
For the send later, I had a phone many years ago that did this natively. I could send a text message at any time in the future up to 30 days. I used it to send myself reminders after work to do certain things on my way home so I wouldn't forget.
Fact check regarding RCS: you said "while still enjoying end-to-end encryption". Apple's implementation follows the RCS spec which does NOT include Google's proprietary encryption. RCS is NOT encrypted on iPhone.
Thank you for this, because some of the screenshots of it show a setup message that says end-to-end encryption *_IS_* supported with RCS, but the official Apple support page on RCS says that it *_IS NOT_* end-to-end encrypted, so whatever that screenshot is from, it isn’t from this current production implementation of Apple’s RCS support. It’s good you’re pointing this out so fewer people will have that confusion or misconception until it does support E2EE at some point in the future.
It’s important to note that while texting between iOS and android does not support end-to-end encryption, It does implement encryption in transit so it does not operate completely without encryption.
That's really interesting. I had an apple up until last year, and then switched over to Android again, but I go back and forth. RCS has been problematic because I'm constantly talking to people who have both. So I was excited about RCS coming to Apple, but that's a buzz kill to hear. I thought that Google invented RCS, and Apple was implementing it after a lot of negotiation, but it sounds like they neutered it and basically it's just going to be good for things like seeing when someone is typing, tapbacks, that kind of thing?
@@BlueRidgeCritter Apple didn't neuter anything. They implemented the public RCS specification standard. "Google added end-to-end encryption (not part of the RCS specifications) to their Messages client using the Signal Protocol starting in 2021." See RCS on wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rich_Communication_Services
I found the best way to use tint on the icons. Use the color picker and choose the lightest color on the wallpaper. It will look nice and easy on eyes. Don't use the heaviest color.
This is my first time on your channel. Dude, this is an incredible presentation. How long does it even take you to put together a video like this? Everything is so organized and easy to follow. The pacing is perfect, the visuals are perfect, the chapters, everything. Very high level. Impressive. Credit must be given where it's due. And you're certainly due. Had to give you some love here, you deserve it. Thumbs up. 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for the kind words. A video like this is probably 2, maybe 3 full days of work, from concept to script, recording and editing, then all the admin that goes with it.
Android has had most these features 6-7 years ago but somehow Apple will convince us that these are new and revolutionary features. I still prefer Apple IOS 😂
I have watched many of your videos, but for some reason this video made me realize that you are the BEST out there for explaining tech features! Clear voice, staying on topic, matching video examples. If you are reading a script for your explanations, I cannot tell! Natural delivery. Excellent job! Subscribed.
That’s too easy. It’ll be an “amazing” change sometime in the future. First they are going to move the send button back over to the right, where it was for 12 years. Amazing!
I came for what's new in iOS18 and just upgraded to 18. But I did not find any RCS mentioned in the message settings. Still, receiving as text to and fro android.
I don’t think Apple deserves credit for allowing to place icons anywhere on the home screen and scheduled texts as these were WAYY OVERDUE. But better late than never.
True. Now everyone justifies their yearly salary by hiding a button behind an extra tap. Like when they hid the shuffle button behind playlist function.
@@ericsteel173 - Jobs was certainly like this. He made a lot of poor choices -- but many of them turned out to be excellent. Like removing the CD/DVD player from computers. Talk about upsetting!! EVERYTHING was being released on disc... and Jobs had all production units stock WITHOUT a CD/DVD reader/burner. But you know what -- it prompted the industry to push forward with technology... and ultimately we got past that hump (reliance on discs) and everything is better for it. If he hadn't done that we might still be swapping 18 discs just to load Office Suite on our machines. Jobs had a vision and was willing to take RISKS to reach that vision. He wasn't always right, but when he was right it paid off not just for Apple, but often for the community. Remember when Jobs came back to Apple and pushed those fruity colored iMacs? I said they'd never sell, because nobody is going to want to buy a machine that isn't "professional". I was called an idiot (to my face) and they proceeded to release those stupid color options for the iMac lineup. And you know what... they sold. They sold like hotcakes. They sold so well that they changed the face of marketing for the ENTIRE WORLD. After that, just about EVERY company wanted to release their products with fruity color options. And that trend still goes on to this very day. People often think that Jobs bringing the iPhone to the market is what saved Apple, but it was actually those stupid fruity-colored iMacs that did it. Those iMacs selling like crazy gave Apple the push they needed for other developments. Without people like Jobs we end up with what we have today -- where Apple has a LOT of unseen tech.... but they're holding it back just so they can trickle the technology and improvements out a little at a time, knowing that their customers will purchase every small minor iPhone upgrade (sometimes every year, mostly every 2 years). It's sad. Advancements are being held back just to milk them for as long as possible. That would not have happened with Jobs -- he would have gone full force, even if it wasn't always the right answer. And, while he was certainly stubborn on a few things (like a stylus -- he HATED HATED HATED them)... even he would relent at times and realize he was wrong (not always). I miss his genius all the time. The new guard at Apple is nothing like Jobs. They are very corporate-focused with empire-building agendas always at the top of mind. Jobs understood that if you delight the CUSTOMER you didn't have to worry about the money -- it would just come in naturally. The new guard knows that they can market and squeeze everyone and they'll keep paying. So, yes -- you are very correct... Jobs was the opposite at times. He was never perfect. But he was willing to gamble on things he believed in, and that's when innovation happens... when you do something nobody else is willing to do or try.
I only switched to an iphone because of my friends and holy crap what a downgrade it was when it came to the OS. These are literally all features I had on my Samsung Galaxy S7. I'm glad I'll be getting them back (kinda) but holy crap. I think with more RCS support now I'll go back to my s22 ultra
Is there anyway to show two time zones on the screen instead of just the time where you are because surely that would be a great addition everyone who travels would be able to have the local time on the screen plus the time back home
One of my email accounts was involved in a data breach. I get an average of 40 to 50 spam emails every day on that address that they don’t catch, and it will probably get worse. So yeah, 205 could easily be just one day when that happens.
For those wanting to make the most of notes calculations, I have figured out a few things that don't seem to be mentioned anywhere else. 1. Variables that use other variables don't refresh by default for example: test3 = test1 + test2 However you can add = at the end to force recalculation if test1 or test2 change test3 = test1 + test2 = (result) 2. Displaying a variable created from other variables doesn't refresh when the value changes for example the following will only be calculated the first time, not when test3 changes; test3 = (result) There are a few ways to force an update, you can do 0 + test3 = (result) this forces recalculation as it thinks it needs to recalculate the 0+ part or a nicer way would be: -- test3 = (result) this is just making a double negative resulting in the original value, but recalculates on test3 change 3. The apple website shows examples of converting to other currencies by doing: test3 to gbp = (result) test3 to eur = (result) but you can also convert to other types by using characters such as: d: days h: hours c: celsius for example: test3 d = (result) test3 h = (result) there are more so have a play around to find them 4. You can use mathematical functions for example: test3 = round (test1) + floor (test2) = (result) 5. You can make your notes much more tidy by using subheadings create a heading or subheading (I call mine calculations) Then format the line to Monostyled put all of your calculations and variables in there close the heading and use the calculated variables outside that hidden section This will give you a nice tidy note where you can list your results Just remember to use the tips 1 and 2 to ensure things are all updated correctly when changing a value 6. Variables don't support special characters so use camelCase to give them good names 7. An example if a working updating bills list: The following example should also have everything update when changing a value. Changing salary for example should update all values down to the totals using the tricks above ** INCOME ** Salary = £3000 ** OUTGOINGS ** CarFinance = £300 Mortgage = £800 Food = £200 ** CALCULATIONS ** (we can collapse this subheading to hide the calculations) Expenses = CarFinance + Mortgage + Food = (result) Disposable = Salary - Expenses = (result) OugoingPercentage = round(Expenses/(salary/100)) = (result) ** TOTALS ** Expenses = (result) Disposable = (result) OugoingPercentage = (result)% 8. That's it, would be nice if Apple could - release better documentation on the features and how they work - fix the bug of child variables not being updated without the = or -- tricks - integrate lists or tables to be arrays of variables so instead of: a=1 b=2 c=3 total = a + b + c .etc we could do: exampleValues = 1, 2, 3 total = sum(exampleValues ) or even: exampleValues : a = 1 b = 2 c = 4 total = sum(exampleValues ) this would enable things to be much neater and make the features here feel less half-baked
@@olterationWhile iPhones do have some neat asthetics, most Android phones are objectively functionally better, e.x. custom APKs, not to mention this texting problem Apple has created for years
I’m an Apple user but I used to be an android user like 12 years ago and I remember having so much fun with my Samsung phone back then with all customisations. I bought an iPhone because everyone had it to be fair but it eventually grew on me. However I find these new updates on ios18 very funny 😹 still not at android level. It’s taking time but Apple will get there eventually in the next couple of years hopefully 😂
I like that you can now add additional widgets as shortcuts on the lockscreen. I don't like the widgets on the bottom because they're too small and only 2 allowed. Under the lockscreen clock, I'd like to see more choices of widgets/shortcuts placed.
This is one of the few channels where the trolls post about how wonderful and accomplished and skilful is the author! That may well be true, but it's jolly amusing!
so far good. i feel like it improved a bit. its not draining as fast as before. also idk if its just me but i feel like images aren't over processed anymore.
I hate all the negative comments after every upgrade. The iPhone is a brilliant device which improves incrementally on a regular basis but all people do is moan. It’s quite sad.
The photo app is really annoying to use now. Many of the basic functions require multiple swipes instead of one. For example, when first opening the app to scroll through your photos, you have to swipe down to get rid of the new menu and then swipe down again to actually start scrolling through your photos. In addition, when you press at the top of the app to jump to the top of your photos, you have to swipe down again to see the top rows of photos because the top menu is in the way. Also, when you click on a locked folder (such as the Deleted folder), you now have to press on the folder, then press on the text in the middle to confirm that you want to open the locked folder, then it finally scans your face to unlock it. All three of these functions took half as many user actions in iOS17, so the user experience is objectively worse in iOS18. Basic user experience used to be critical for Apple, but apparently it’s no longer as important as making everything look pretty.
There's a difference between Ranting after every hardware/software release to get views and then there's this. The viewer can have a much better decision to make after seeing such videos like here. Keep it going.
Coming from IOS 3.0 - Its crazy how almost 90% of the things we were doing in the JB commmunity are now absorbed into the main product. Android included. Some Android features exited first in a Jailbroken iPhone
The color of the icons can be changed independently for each mode, e.g. "sleep" to a uniform dark blue, and after turning off this mode, the screen will return to its classic appearance.
Having Face ID for my email apps is completely mind blowing now. I don’t have to worry about people messing with emails. The only downside is anything that requires Face ID to open, does not get put in the widget on the lock screen.
You do a great job of explaining this at a reasonable pace. I was wishing Apple would let you label the icons in the control center. Many are self explanatory but some are not.
one thing i really want is for notifications to “understand” context and intention you watch a video on full screen, say netflix. someone decides to ping you on whatsapp about something nonsense (joke in a group chat) you dismiss the notification by pushing it up (so far so good) then the next message comes in on the same chat - new notification dismiss that too and then the third one … dismiss that too so i would expect that the system would recognise that i dont want to engage with that stream of notifications therefore it would not show the 4th one… as in a soft dont disturb mode
