On this adventure I metal detect an old road, now flooded by a river that has changed its path. One item found in particular would have been a devastating loss for who dropped it!

I save up several weeks of Brad's GMMD videos and use them to escape the negative World news (like that from the Russian/ Ukraine War, etc.). Brad's videos are always a welcomed respite and serve as a valued escape from negative world news! Thank you for your videos, Brad!

Damn I've been detecting for years studying colonial history and I also research to dig bottles and arrowheads from rivers in the North East and many people ask me why I'm not making videos of all the outdoor hunts. If I knew so many "happy women" enjoyed these types of videos I would've been posting a lot of what I have recorded discovering also lol. Detecting groupies who knew lol??? Other than having red/auburn hair we're practically twins SMH Ladies you crack me up. Have a nice day and enjoy the video lol

You can't here it enough, but your liquid flow of vocabulary is something special, and your ability to be a sponge as I describe it is outstanding. A sponge is someone that is logical thinking remembering and using all information they are exposed to. You have that as a gift, you will go far and I enjoy each of your searches of treasures.

reminds me of the late Rush Limbaugh. He could speak correctly off the cuff about the subject at hand. His mind was also a sponge. This comment is not about Rush's political beliefs, just his ability to speak correctly 4 hours a day with out a script.

It’s possible that the ‘brass candle holder’ is the base to the oil/kerosene lamp parts that you found. They sometimes consisted of a glass reservoir mounted onto a similar base with the wick adjuster assembly fixed on top.

It also could be what's known as a beehive candlestick. Either way, cool finds.

Brad, Back in the Jersey pines not too distant from our home , was Quaker Bridge Road, an old and historic unpaved one through the woods. The oxen teams used to carry bog iron and lumber for the iron foundry smelters. Every so often there was a circular turnoff where the drivers could either turn around or wait for another wagon coming in the opposite direction. You couldn't do that. Thanks for sharing that history. I can see you and your family enjoying the winter beauty at your scenic homestead in two day!! You all deserve it! Cheers, Rik

Always great to see your videos. Haven’t watched this one yet but I hope some (well-off) New Englanders took that road less traveled! Someone once said “Good fences make good neighbors.” (Not sure about that but those old stone “fences” sure are beautiful.) Best wishes for fair weather and good-hunting-from an older dude who USED to love wandering the less-picturesque, but still beautiful, fields and streams of Ohio. Sometimes with an old Fisher CZ 6, and sometimes with my “flipping stick,” which was just a headless golf club. Old coins and relics and, older still, tools and ornaments of slate and flint are still catalogued and framed to remind me of my days when I could still get out and hunt. (Sometimes came home empty-handed but the “wandering” was just a different, yet certainly precious, kind treasure.) Thank you for sharing your adventures with me and all of us like-minded folks! Keep your powder dry and your detector swinging! ❤️🫡✌🏼💫

The base is likely from whats known as a beehive candlestick. 19th century. But. They tended to use the same forms for the different items, so it could have been from an oil lamp as well.

Just pointing it out, but the lead "something" wasn't broken off anything, so it couldn't be a handle for anything. Not a bad guess, given it's so decorative, but it can't have been a handle. Wish I had an idea as to what it was, because this one may rattle around in my mind for days.

That pocket knife is very possibly a Canton Cutlery Co pocket knife. After a glance at the handle I could pretty much see it was known as high art. It would have at one time been clear celluloid, generally over a photograph or some type of advertising. They started making them in the 1920s. Could actually have been from several different makers including WR CASE & SONS

My grandmother's house had an ice house in out back the walls. Floor . and ceiling were a foot thick. They were filled with saw dust. She could remember cutting ice and filling it in winter. When she was little. I remember an icebox in mom's kitchen, the ice man would bring a block in over his shoulder with a leather cape over his back with ice tongs. That was about 1946 or so. She had a Maytag washer on the back porch with hand rollers on top to wring water out of clothes.. Carried water from the well hand pump to pour in it. And the old clothes line outside. I remember the man with a horse and wagon. Sold brooms and pots and all kinds of stuff out of the wagon. I was very young . but those things stuck in my memories.

Photos especially are hard to imagine losing. I recently connected with my great grandmother’s only brother’s granddaughter while doing my family genealogy. I was looking for family stories and, even better, any family photos she might have inherited. Turns out that, due to bitter feelings over his childhood (his father put him into an orphanage at age nine after his wife died and split the kids up between his in-laws and the orphanage), when he grew up and built his first house, he took all of his family photos, put them in a box, and bricked them up behind the fireplace. I understand his feelings, but my heart broke a little over the loss of those family pictures. My great grandmother was apparently equally bitter and never talked about her family to her children. The only photos that were passed down date to after her father abandoned them. My great grandparents had three daughters, but only two survived to adulthood. The youngest Hazel died of the Spanish Flu in 1918 when she was just 18 months. When my father gave the last of his family photos to me this summer to be archived, I found one small photo of two babies of similar age sitting side by side and the back just had “Hazel” on it in my grandmother’s handwriting. I don’t know which of the two was her, but that just might be the only photo of her still in existence.
