I was born in Montana. The most formative years of my life were spent in the Montana wilderness. I now and for the past decade have lived in the Midwest. My friends have always told me that the Midwest is where the true natural beauty of the nation lies. But I've always spoken to the contrary, much to the dismay of my peers. But when they would ask me what was so special about the Montana wilderness, I always stumbled because I could not put into words the beauty of such a place. So I always just told them to listen to this score and watch this film. Even though they both are almost thirty years old I still believe, that they come closest to capturing the essence of its beauty.
Midwest…true natural beauty?! LOL. Who are these friends of yours and what drugs are they on? My wife and I had our honeymoon in Montana/Wyoming. We flew in to Belgrade, MT and drove to Red Lodge, then through the pass to Yellowstone. Drove down to the Tetons and then back up to fly home. I’ve lived in Indiana my entire life and it was that short trip that convinced me of a heaven on Earth. I wish I could go back.
Love Montana. Went on an archaeological dig with my college 40 years ago. My dad went on a vacation from Arizona to Montana in his 70s. Wanted to move there. I was going to go with him, but he passed away. I have yet to return to my dismay. I felt at home out there. I may yet see it again this summer to show my husband of 25 years the beauty of Montana! Lucky you being born there. Thanks for sharing your story
I'm Japanese, living in Japan, and have admired Montana scenery from watching this film. There is too far and expensive for me, but I felt I could be able to touch Montana scenery and wind by your comment. Nice text.
to love completely without fully understanding...bless you wherever you are John Maclean, when you will have suffered to be able to say it...you cry... the most striking sequence is the last sermon of Paul's father, whoever listens to that short passage will never forget it because it happens to all of us that we cannot help our loved ones many times and we can only love them completely...
I lost a dear friend last year to drug addiction. He was the sweetest soul there was. He left a wife and two young children. He couldn't kick the addiction whatever he tried. He took his life as he didn't want his kids to suffer an addict father. It didn't matter what I tried I just couldn't save him. He loved Jesus! This sermon always reminds me of him and brings me to tears!
I appointed Brad Pitt, and this work, which completely changed my view of Robert Redford, has become one of the treasures of my life. Family love, so easy and so hard, I already don't know what is right and what is wrong. I'm just confused by the inconvenient and convenient world where you can express your sympathy to a total stranger like this. Please take care of yourself and thank you for giving me this opportunity.。
Brother. My friend and my ally through thick and through thin, O brother they do not know the war we were in, A war with no flags no people or races, A war with a dream and unconquered places, When i was scared in the night you quickly switched on the light, Hurriedly to tell me everything was alright, Comfort and love you gave it to me, I thank you dear brother i hope that you see, That when we walked you used to hold my hand, And take me to places like far away lands, I was but half your size you were a giant to me, Through the eyes of a child you were a a wonder to see, We fought most times argued as brothers do, But the love that we shared was all that i knew, They will never understand the war we were in, A war in which we won, was the battle within. Patrick O Reilly.
This composer is my favorite! When I was younger i used to ride my bike along the Erie Canal in Rochester New York and I listened to and loved Vapor Drawings. I've been a great fan ever since! His score in The Majestic and Fly away home touch my soul. I would love to meet this genius.
One of my favorite soundtracks! I know each song and where it falls in the movie. Like waters haunt Norman, this soundtrack haunts me and fills me with the sweetest of memories! Thank you sir!!!
Mark can’t even tell you how this score informed my life! It was a perfect companion for so many special years. My very own, seemingly. Thank you and such a lovely reminder to see it in my feed today. I would have been in my young twenties during this time. And the emotion captured by these cues helped me to plug into some of the very deepest joys and sorrows, and the hope of a young man struggling and growing as we all do. As is often the case - music can express and convey what words cannot. And for that, and more - I thank you for this. :)
One of my all time favorite movies even though I was already into fly fishing and tying flies at 13 before this movie came out it was a part of what fueled the passion to delve deep into the waters that 35 years later has become a passion and obsession and it's better than any drug or alcoholic drink on the planet.
49:31 to 49:38 pipes irsh What is meant by the music is that it is Irish, and the McClain family is an American family of Irish origin. As for the music at the beginning of the musical clip, it may be set to be a wedding in one of the rural churches.
I like all the pieces from this movie!! Where may I buy the music score for the orchestra? I'll appreciate for your reply. I have searched over and over and get nothing........
Although I am unfamiliar with Mr Isham's music, I was entranced by the tuneful, beautifully orchestrated score composed by him for this memorable film. It would be interesting to compare it to the Elmer Bernstein score [not composed after Elmer and Redford disagreed over the tone of the film].
Actually, the Bernstein score is out there somewhere, I've heard a portion of. But this film with any other score is just ..unthinkable. As far as I'm concerned, Redford nailed it with this film in all respects. It's one of the very few movies that imo are actually better than the original written work. However, in the book (which is more of a novella), you get more insight into the brothers' relationship with Mabel (the Indian woman). You also get more insight into Burns family, too, specifically the role of the women in that family. In fact just writing this comment, I kind of want to re-read it now that I'm older to see if anything else jumps out at me. Oh ..the only gripe I might have, is that in the book there was a simple joke that Redford might have been able to include: "If you've never seen the bear go over the mountain, you've never seen the task reduced to the essentials." idk why I can totally see that and it's hilarious haha
And me ladies and lords forget not the fly fishing that u ites the entire stream of life from beginning to end yet begs the question ... with what acumun, acuity or grace shall we live it: In my myopic opinion, it challenges my utmost purview on all life belief systems whilst embracing them all ... zen without zen, mindfulness without mind, a dream that ajudicates life, and yet but a a life that fonds the only too well on the dream aforenight. As the song goes : Row, row the boat.... ( gently back into stream). Hence fly fish while ye may...it's sustainable ( from the stream) or go ' roll in the hay' and end up in the stream. Keep an open mind with this....life ( whatever in betwèen) ...we are death's fish- food yet live well NOW!!! BTW: Ask for me? See the inverted sign? Yup ' Gone Fishing'..
