@@ignis2638as for me, they better not. I put my bet on Nanachi x Reg. As Mitty claims: "This is the place where you pick up treasure" That means, Nanachi is supposed to pick up a treasure, and Reg being the Supreme Treasure of the Netherworld is a really fitting answer for that.
I think out of the trio, Nanachi suffered the most because she lost her treasure not once bout twice throughout their adventure, but in the end, while not be a replacement but riko, and reg manage to be a remedy and the reason for her to keep on going.
Its funny that Akihito (creator of Made in Abyss) was originally going to make them have feelings for eachother but for some unknown reason he change them to being friends instead.

What made reg so attached to nanachi their fluffyness was mostly because of the scent before nanachi became a narehate they were often called out for their stench after the transformation they gained a rather more alluring smell rather then a stench
There are theories that Reg is a reincarnation of Riko’s dog and robot Reg has a highly sensitive nose hence his attraction to pleasant smells and the ability to track or tell the difference between people. I love how he wants to sleep near Nanachi or (in the manga) nom on Nanachi’s tail
