I'm 66 and first heard this song when it was released. I was a 12 year old Catholic school girl and that opening riff...well let's just say it still makes me feel the same way. Then I met Robert Plant 18 months ago. He, Allison Krause and crew stayed in my small hometown for one night as they were playing the next day 10 miles away. Long story short, he signed my original LZ1 album. He was lovely and I tried to be cool but my inner 14 year-old self was losing her mind. It was like looking into the sun. Absolute Rock God.

You are so lucky to have met the ROCK GOD, I’ve heard him & Page are so down to earth great guys. I think compared to the majority of celebrities, they love their fans. Us fans didn’t listen to the critics, talking shit about them. Thanks for sharing your story.

Some years back I saw an interview with founder, and bassist Steve Harris of Iron Maiden who saw Led Zeppelin at Earl's Court in 1975. He was asked who had the better rhythm section Sabbath or Zeppelin. The hosts of the show were certain that Harris would choose Sabbath for the simple fact that Sabbath was heavier than Zeppelin, and Iron Maiden were part of the second wave of British metal. Without even thinking about it, Harris chose Zeppelin. That was also the correct answer. I love Sabbath as well, but for me Zeppelin was way more creative.

Since I’ve Been Loving You, live at Madison Square Gardens (1973), is absolutely amazing. One of my favorite studio songs is, You Shook Me3 great solos of keyboards harmonica & guitar, & Plants amazing vocals & Bonham’s amazing drumming. Have you guys seen Bonham’s 20 minute Moby Dick solo, the best version to see him is at Earls Court (1975). He played his solo over 200 times, at some point in a 3 to 4 hour nonstop concert.

I was obsessed with Led Zeppelin when I was a kid. In my opinion, John Bonham (RIP) was the GOAT. So were Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Robert Plant. No one is like them.
@juliemanarin4127

PS...Bonham did bass triplets with ONE FOOT...ONLY ONE BASS DRUM! Bonham followed and watched every cue and improvisation from Jimmy...JPJ followed Bonham and rarely took his eyes off him...and Robert just threw in perfectly...including with harmonica! You dont find that band dynamic anywhere.

I think with Jimmy…..he’s “only” in the top 20 rock guitarists as far as technique…BUT….what gets him always into the top five rock guitarists were his abilities to create incredible riffs (WLL, Kashmir), and melodies (Rain Song, Stairway etc), new tunings, AND his improvisational chops live, which few other guitarists would even attempt. He went for feel and emotion over total accuracy….a,ways took it to the edge of his abilities…on purpose. Do you all realize the sheer GUTS that took? He was OK with an epic fail….but he was always going to push the limits. The whole band did. They all had incredible cojones…. And then, add to that Page’s incredible charisma as a guitar player…..surpassed, in my opinion, ONLY by Jimi Hendrix . He played with such power, passion, and grace. His movements geared to bring the most drama into his performance. His clothes too. He was the whole package sonically and visually, in his heyday. Zeppelin really had two “frontmen”….your eyes were always on one or the other. Then add his abilities as a studio producer ….someone who could tell the mixing engineer what to do to get incredible new sounds….and a master “mastering engineer”. Wow. What a talented man was/is Jimmy Page. And, at least in his elder years, (😏) such a gentleman.

Thanks for this video. Really appreciated the analysis. I agree that Led Zeppelin were a phenomenal force in rock music. Four absolutely top class musicians. (Although in terms of lead singers Ian Gillan of Deep Purple deserves a mention. A vocal range second to none.) Unfortunately, we never appreciate things properly until they are gone. I think I am lucky by accident of birth date. I was a teenager in the 1970s. I feel that in terms of music I won the music lottery. Deffinitely the rock music lottery. Great song after great song was being produced by great band after great band. Halcyon days which we thought would never end! 😊

@@MoreMeetArthurwhat I find really amazing about Bonham, is that he didn’t start playing drums until age 15, & a few months after turning 20 being in the greatest band. I also am amazed they were only together about 2 months, when they recorded the greatest debut album. Recorded & Page produced mixed & edited it, in just 4 days & 35 hours total. A live that I really love is, Earls Court the May 25,1975 version of, In My Time Of Dying. Page playing steel guitar, & the great improvisation on that date is mind blowing.
