The story of a WWII Sergeant who must decide between completing a mission or the safety of his men. Shot during September 2015 in Sunapee and Claremont New Hampshire.
Well, you heard all of the critics and nit-pickers, but I enjoyed this very much. The look on that boys face at the very end when he pulled the pin was a nice bit of acting! Bravo.
Hair cuts wrong style.. No unit & rank patches.. Helmet liner wrong style..Also too new.. Helmets never secured to chin. Were they all sharpshooters and would hit targets on first shot?
Too bunched up. No squad would be walking in an open field. No squad would be given the order to storm a German strong point after loosing 8 in the first engagement. Germans would also be on high alert. In fact they would (Germans) would be on the offensive after the first engagement. Germans would have used artillery support to knock out the farm house especially a command post. Still not bad for a college students movie.
+ParaLight WorX Danke mein freund! I'm glad you enjoyed the film. I took a lot of inspiration from your own short films. I have watched many of them, actually. Keep up the good work!
How can a german MG42 fire bullets without running the ammunition belt through it? Not real! The slang of the german soldiers is so terrible... Are they americans?
Is the medics name Doss like THE Desmond Doss who was awarded the Medal of Honor for getting 75 wounded soldiers off Hacksaw Ridge in the battle of Okinawa during ww2
Not to be a prick here but... there should be 5 more soldiers in the US squad: 4 rifleman 2 of which are B.A.R ammo carriers and 2 or so grenadiers, and a B.A.R operator. The Corporal shouldn’t be carrying a B.A.R he’s an assistant squad leader. Overall their squad should have 12 men: 9 riflemen carrying various equipment, 1 Sergeant, 1 assistant squad leader, and 1 B.A.R operator. Also that private who got sniped was just..... unbelievably stupid; no sense of self preservation. Also why not just throw the grenade before....
The 5 soldiers were taken out during the last battle. also: he didn't throw the grenade because he had already been shot. He couldn't run and knew he wasn't going to make it out alive.
Just some tips: 1. Study real tactics. A lone MG in the middle of nowhere is not believable. Standing up on a ridge above a destroyed MG nest and waving without checking the surroundings is suicide. Talking can be done without standing up, in cover. Approaching a reported enemy position unsupported through open ground on the side with almost certain MGs and snipers is what would have gotten Johnson (and everyone) killed, not his standing up and getting even more exposed. All these scenes can take place in a bush while still allowing a nice camera shot through the bush. 2. Fresh recruits are fresh recruits but they have recieved basic training, which is more than the people representing them have - no need for additional greenness. Always look like you know what you're doing. Practice often and in the period-correct way. 3. If the M1 feels too heavy for your left arm, it's because it is. That's what the strap is for. And physical fitness.
It was a pretty decent short! But tactical study is a must. When walking in a formation like thru the Forest on the dirt path. the weapons should be pointed outward. Always have 5 meters between bodies and always step lightly, never shuffle feet. Stick to the treeline and not out in the plain open.
Only soldier apparently has a grenade? In previous episodes , I have seen a caption leading a platoon ? There uniforms appear brand new. But it is a very good episode. MY father fought in Europa. He very ever spoke of it. He mentioned once spoke of it. He said that the German soldiers were very good. For the betterment of mankind No more. WAR😐✌
Overall enjoyable. Just a few minor quips. Why wasn’t the BAR firing full auto. The model issued in WW2 had fast auto fire and slow auto fire. In the field soldiers did away with the bipod to shave weight and because it was at odds with the weapon’s purpose of walking fire. The approach to the objective was a little amateurish. But cinematography was excellent. Acting was great especially assuming these folks aren’t pros. Uniforms were outstanding too. It passed so quick it didn’t seem like 20 minutes. A solid 4/5.
The Americans won because after many battles they had cleaner uniforms and clean faces. The side with the best laundry facilities will win hands down every time.
In actual battle, not the movies, did they really walk around so close together? And, why did they just walk uphill across an open field like that? Seems like a really good way to get killed.
These vignettes I think capture the human element of war. And any body who has ever served can understand the raw emotions in battlefield decisions protecting your buddies or carrying out your orders to the detriment of your men tough choices.
As a German I just can't take this serious with this terrible German voice acting. The accents are so bad you can't even understand their German. Much love for the effort though! We need more German perspective films on WW2. And neutral+realistic ones, not ridiculous Hollywood stuff.
Hearing a lot of Oscar buzz for the absolutely jaw dropping tour-de-force performances portrayed by these young actors- nay- Artists! It was like I was watching Pacino, Karloff, Brando, Deniro or Hoffman! Two toes up! Bravo! Bravo!!
I hate to be one of the nitpickers, but a replacement (presumably having just finished basic training) with a full beard? Was he one of the Dirty Dozen? Anyway, thanks for not disabling comments by now.
I think when the Medic says its alright is so the wounded would not worry about what happen to him, or it was a panic for the medic, and thats all he could say to keep the sanity of both of them.
liked it good shortfilm only thing i disliked was the potrayal of the wehrmacht soldiers as cannonfodder with no skills. But at the time they were propably the most experienced army out there
There are so many combat mistakes I can’t list them.....why didn’t they use the tree line to advance on the farm house....when they were fired upon why didn’t they use a staged withdraw of cover fire and move... when the one rifleman ran out of ammo why didn’t he take the ammo off his dead dead mate.....
Hi. I just discover this short film thanks to RU-vid. There is a true talent as a filmmaker ! Good film editing, many angled of view, real guns firing... Well done ! And there is some talent in these actors, no joking (see what they do in Europe, UK...). More cinematographic than a perfect historical reconstitution : m1 helmet model 1950 (metallic attach), brand new uniforms (as usual), limited military terms, german language to improve, some current made cars in the background ?! . Too vibrant colors perhaps. And no vehicles ? Not so easy to find in U.S. , I know. But there is some talent here. A new S.Spielberg ? He started with a 8mm camera, so what we could do with such new digital equipments... You know what to do next time ! 😉
Nicely done for a home made movie But my issue is a German MG gunner would have a Squad of about 13 riflemen As the rifle squad protects the Mg team As the rifle men also carry enough ammo to support But anyway we'll put together and thank you for your efforts as I enjoyed what you have done.
The Thompson bolt remains to the rear at end of firing unless you shoot till empty a drum mag. Then will it close. Stick mag=open after last shot, mag empty or not. This being an M1 Thompson, it's stick mags only.
Damn I never knew that the dry cleaning service delivered freshly pressed brand spanking new uniforms front line soldiers who been fighting for a number of days already. Yeah action sequences were not well choreographed and the discussions felt like the troops were talking to one another but practising their lines for a play and it’s much more improvement
Is This Scene for Real?!!!....No Damned Way We'd Be Right Out There in The "Wide Ass Open"......If I Was In Charge?...we'd Be inside The woods Checking It Out...............This Could Not Have Been For Real
The main problem I have with this video is the visibility of the enemy. In all cases, soldiers will present a small or invisible target. If you are visible to the enemy, you will be shot. Always use cover and the lay of the land to obscure your movements and positions. Once you have fired your weapon a few rounds, move to a new position, if only by a few feet. Create uncertainty for the enemy. Stealth is a soldier's friend. In this video, soldiers present themselves as highly visible targets. In reality, both sides played an intense game of hide-and-seek-and-destroy. A structure is bait. A house or a barn is merely a lure to draw attention and fire. An MG position may also be bait. Any time a weapon is fired, a position is revealed. Firing it may serve to draw attention. If you don't think that the enemy hasn't anticipated your every move, you aren't thinking. If you aren't thinking, you're dying.
Were your actors reading completely unrehearsed directly from cue cards? It was like a parody of bad acting, and reminiscent of teaching my children to read. Also spending at least a day drilling weapon function for your soldiers is essential. One of the Germans cycled the bolt, and flinched to simulate recoil before his rifle was even shouldered or aiming properly, unless he meant to shoot into the dirt ten feet in front of himself. One of the new replacements managed to grow a full beard by his first engagement, and casually smokes his cigarette while dodging enemy fire and diving to ground to return fire. The senior officer is the most ragged looking unprofessional soldier of the bunch. Paralight is being very kind, but reality is what you need to accept in order to make this work if that is your chosen goal. Actors need a director to direct them, every detail for the novice. Give them a basic character background, and rehearse, rehearse, and rehearse again before you roll the film. The potential is there for a solid short film, best advice is to swallow your pride and appreciate all of the criticism, get creative with affecting the necessary changes to your approach, and continue trying to achieve your vision. Good luck!
The majority of the cast is very young, the uniforms are too big, and the haircuts are inadequate, (very long hair) ... I preferred not to finish seeing it... I recommend checking details, request support from professionals in logistics (military of course) and see many, many photos and real footage so you can achieve the characterization of your actors, also be more demanding with the casting (I insist, you see children), also with makeup, costumes, characterization and locations. I hope that this comment is useful and do not take it badly ... If I finished watching the short film and I will be on the lookout for the next one.
The problem is Devil runs the world. He is lier and murderer. This is the reason why liers and murderers feel good while righteous persons are persecuted. This is the reason why Hitler got the power, but Christ was executed as "blasphemer" and "rioter" by denunciation of clergy. That's why we've got the Gospel about the God's kingdom. Jehovah would put everything in order. The dead will be resurected and we'll meet our beloved ones again! :-)
I'm in the industry. You got the costumes and the people. Don't waste all that time on copying Saving Private Ryan! Don't be lazy! Come up with your own writing , style and even the cinematography! All you did here was change a few lines. Even the acting and the scenes were copied! You can do better! Work on the German !
Best acting was the 12 or 13 year olds playing Germans,,,Fave scene was the car driving by while they were ck'ing out the barn; and the added realism of the white pickup truck in the driveway 😜🤣😅😆
