Intervening on behalf of David’s kingdom, Joab conspired with a wise woman to resolve the conflict between the king and his son Absalom. When David acquiesced, Absalom returned to Jerusalem unpunished, unforgiven, and unashamed-and the saga of alienation and disruption within David’s family and kingdom continued. Reminding us that sin always ends in tears, Alistair Begg directs our gaze forward to the cross, where, with open arms, King Jesus graciously welcomes believers out of the chaos and shambles of rebellious lives.

It makes it easy for the listener...What a tremendous blessing it is to be the recipient of the benefits of another man's yeilded, diligent and prayerful study. Every component of the scriptures considered were atomized in such a way as to allow us to see and understand what's really going on in this narrative of God's word. I praise Christ Jesus and thank God for gifting the speaker with such aptitude. And, I thank Pastor Begg for his commitment to shepherding God's people into greater and deeper understanding concerning the revelations of God as presented in the bible.

In following this series, I've noticed that David's judgement/discernment was not the same after he sinned.

Pastor Begg. This is a story that makes me want to cry every time I hear it. Listening to your insight on Absalom's reason for killing Amon makes me wonder, but shouldn't David as a father done something? Seems like he was out of touch. For a moment I found myself siding with Absalom, until you reminded us (prev lesson) that vengeance belongs to God, and I snapped out of it. Brethrens at Parkside, you are blessed. Thank you for such a heart wrenching message. Which causes us to see more and more how sinful we are, our nothingness, and brings us to our knees before the one and only perfect king

I think we need to understand this story from the Hebrew culture perspective. The Hebrew word for kiss is “nashy” which means to touch something. In Judaism a kiss in Torah represents loyalty and devotion to God. So, a kiss in Torah represented loyalty to one another. King David just didn’t kiss Avshalom, but his kiss was representing forgiveness and loyalty to one another. Thus, the King was missing his son (Chapter 14). This story needs to be understood from a Hebrew perspective. Also, when the woman tells King David in verse 17 that he is like an Angel of God in discerning good and evil and may God be with him that was because the King would write out all of Torah when he took the role of King. So, he should be able to distinguish from good and evil based on Torah, the Law. The law is what directs people to discern good and evil. He was also appointed by God to be King, so it can be assumed God is with him since he’s been appointed by God. And indeed God was with King David.

Only when David followed God's leading. God did not abandon David as he does not abadon us but the consequences of sin will not depart from us until we are changed when Jesus returns and he will change us in a twinkling. Judas also kissed Jesus. As Of Begg said that was also a political kiss

@@chrisreynolds5144 that was a kiss of betrayal since I’m speaking about what a “kiss” represented from a Hebrew perspective, which the Bible is a book written from a Hebraic perspective. Old Testament was originally written in Hebrew. God was ALWAYS with David since he was appointed by God. God even extended grace to David by not having him stoned when he committed adultery with Bethesda. It doesn’t matter what a pastor says the kiss represented. What matters is what the BIBLE stated a kiss represents based on the culture which was a Hebraic one.

Absalom should have been severely punished and admonished by David his father as a child. And his rebellion as an adult should not have been left unpunished. David was at fault and not willing to surrender his own will to the will of the Law which came from God Himself. Many point fingers to Ahab many years later with his wife Jezebel..And rightfully so. Absolutely no respect for God Agab and his wife Jezebel had. Even modern preachers do the same as David. And most fathers. Did David not do in "microscopic-format" exactly the same as Ahab? The depravity of man is so great and sin so deeply embedded in our carnal flesh. If it was not for the Second Adam Jesus Christ Who came to earth and died and was raised to Life by God and ascended to the Throne of Heaven to sit on David's Throne (spiritual metaphor in the Old Testament pointing to Jesus next to God the Father), no man can and will ever inherit eternal life. The PRIDE in even anointed preachers is so deeply hidden. They point fingers to all others who sin - and rightfully so - but when it comes to family...friends....fellow pastors....it is heartbrealking how hypocritical things become. Real "Truth" is to lie down your life just as Christ did. Many people tend to forget: the Word is bathed with the Cloth of Blood from Golgotha (Revelation 19). People died for people to have the Word translated into many languages. And what does the averave USA citizen do? Treat the Bible as 🚽 paper Just as people in South Africa where I live. They do not even respect TAX LAWS. Why will they respect the Superior Law in the Bible even? The LAW is not dead but VERY MUCH alive in CHRIST. And the Law kills those who speaks against His Blood.
