PLEASE NOTE: Runaway Campers now have brand new FIBERGLASS Composite 2020 campers - no wood from now on in Runaway Campers!
Check them out here: • A 2020 Runaway Camper ...
We now own the 2020 Runaway RangeRunner fiberglass composite model!
Charles Moman describes his brand new Runaway Camper Navigator and the options he added to the standard model. Purchased in August, 2016.
PLEASE NOTE - when hitching up the Navigator, I did NOT cross the chains as my wife TOLD ME TO DO. I know you are supposed to - I just did not want to take the time to do it because I wanted to get to my tour of the camper. YES, CROSS YOUR CHAINS! This is especially for potential Runaway camper owners. Not expected . . . . but if my video has helped you to decide to order a Runaway, you could give my name as a referral when ordering your camper? No worries whether you do or don't - I was not even thinking about referrals when I made this Runaway introduction video.

Folks - I know you should cross the chains - I just did not in the video. In my video description above, I CLEARLY state that I KNOW I should have crossed the chains, but just kept on with filming my video. I also have a red box pop up at that moment in the video (around 2:48) where I say all of this again. I really cannot count the number of comments I have deleted constantly telling me to cross my chains. I do cross them in actual use and it is explained quite well in my video description and in the video with the red box. I understand people mean well when they comment though.

Hi Charles. I love your Runaway videos. You provide so much valuable information. Thank you. I am 6'1with a longer torso versus leg length (30.5 in inseam). I am trying to decide which works best for me. What I have done is mark against my bedroom wall 42 inches, factoring a 4" foam mattress; then tape some twine across the wall at the presumed runaway interior height. I can then simulate sitting up on the mattress to determine how much bedroom I would have. Thanks again for everything you and your wife Susie have done to promote the Runaways.

Oh my , I think this is what I'm looking for. Small enough and lite enough (?) to pull with my 4 cylinder Hyundai. Very helpful on the thought of the extra purchases and how and why on the uses! And just seeing how one could enter that's less mobile was a great idea to put in your video. I'm female and I would be able to handle this set up and my cousin is handicapped. I just wish this was big enough to have a bed at the front for an extra person. Of corse I could purchase the bigger but price and weight could be an issue. Love the little extra touches your wife added also and seeing one could set up inside on a fold out without busting your brains lol. Thanks for the video, good job!

I really appreciate you demonstrating getting in and out because I do have a mobility disability. I hear Runaway is now making a model that you can stand up in. I'm waiting to see that one. I looked on their website but did not see it advertised yet. All the best to you and your wife.

Thanks! They did make the larger model this past year, but stopped. I have heard they make make some more of them - you should call them right away and see what their plans are. I'm not sure the stand up model will always be available or if they will continue making it. Just call them 352-342-3454 - nice people. All the best and blessings!

Thank you! Today we are doing final packing for a trip to Florida for the 2nd annual Runaway Campers Homecoming Rally. I will be filming at the Rally like last year. Last year I did a Runaway Factory Tour film - look it up on this channel. While I am there, I will be filming 2.0 version of this primer video. It will show all of the modifications we have made, as well as a general review of using out 4x8 Runaway camper for almost 3 years. It will be posted here in a few weeks at the most. You might also look at my new RU-vid channel - Moment by Moman - which we just started and it will feature our trips and others things. There is also a FaceBook page by the same name, as well as my momentbymoman Instagram account. We love our Runway, but it is not for everyone, but it works for us. Good luck in your decision making. The 6x8 version is becoming more and more popular, but we like the smaller size.

You could make one out of an old trailer pretty easily. It would be even cheaper if you can scab the materials.
@freezinweasle1
@freezinweasle1 5 лет назад
Very good video. Actually, if the chains are coming from a central point on the trailer frame you do not need to cross the chains. When the chains are coming from either side of the trailer frame, then you need to cross them. It's a good habit to be in but you did not do anything wrong as your chains come from the same point. But then again, you should have listened to your wife. (just because) :) again, nice informative video. Thank you.

Thanks for the video; There are so many tiny campers to choose from. I have narrowed it down to the Runaway, but I also like the MyMini, both seem to be good bang for the buck....I still got about 2 years of research to do before I pull the final trigger on getting one, but I really appreciate you taking the time to make this video, helps with the final decision process..

If you have to change a tire on the trailer, just set all your leveling blocks under the rear jack matching thwheel and raise it up with stabilizing jack. between the other wheel, stabilizing jack, and hitch connection you have a 3 point stand. Is doesn't get any safer or faster than that, BTW Im from Ocala as well. lol.

The best thing about these small campers is that you don't even need a vehicle. Going by the start of your video a pair of legs and a winch would be all you need. Homeless people could have one and they could just walk it around. Cheap living.

Instead of those yellow "Lego" levelers, a layer or two of 2 x 6 works well, and usually leaves enough extension for the wheel chocks.

Two advantages to 15" wheels: longer between bearing lubes (wheel turns fewer times per mile) and a bit closer to level with a pickup or SUV. For my Honda Fit, 12" wheels make my kit trailer nearly level.

Buy an extra ball. Put it in the ball of your trailer lock it down. That way no one can no one can come up and hook up with a smaller ball. Let’s say you have a 2 inch ball. I can put a 1 1/2 ball into your ball even if it’s locked down. If you place an extra ball into your hitch and lock it down no one can small ball hook up to your trailer. Also make sure you file off the threads on your extra ball. That keeps someone from putting your spare ball into their hitch. Or you can buy an extra nut and put two nuts onto your lock ball and weld them together and then weld it to your stud. If you can’t weld. It will cost you 5 bucks at a muffler shop for someone to weld it for you. Just a suggestion to keep you safe and deter theft. Also buy 4 feet of heavy chain and chain your wheel to your axel and double lock it down. Do both of these and add a locking nut to your wheels and no one can steal your trailer.

7:25 I'd use popsicle sticks. It's important though to know what the noise is. I don't want my trailer jumping, for example. I unfortunately had one trailer get off. The chains saved the trailer, but wasn't sure about my chassis.

Thanks! It's really fine to use someone else as a referral if they pointed you to Runaway Campers first. We look forward to years of travel with our Navigator.

For the hitch rattle , take an aluminum coke can , make a shim to snug it up . Nice lil camper

David Lewis I bought an anti rattle hitch clamp - look at my how to hitch a Runaway video I made this year. Thanks for watching.

great video...very informative...you're right...ummm...your wife is correct...cross the chains...last thing I do is disconnect the chains...why...??? I too had a small camper...loaded it is a little heavier...I was in the mountains and I backed into a spot...when I took the hitch off the ball...the trailer started rolling back...the chock blocks slid and had I not left the chains on...the trailer would have been in the gulley down below...CHAINS LAST...thank you...

As to carpet sample on the ground, we follow the East Asia habit: Take off outdoor shoes before you go indoors... and vice versa.

Only thing I would change is to chalk the tires before unhooking it from the truck. If you are on a hill and unhook from the truck then the trailer will just roll away. Saw it happen to someone in another RU-vid video.

Good tip. We have moved on and now have a Ford Transit 250 that we converted to a camper. The van build series is here on this channel. Blessings!

@@charlesmoman awesome! We just started looking into the runaway series and will probably get one next year to do some extended traveling. Can't wait to see the van build, that was something else we were considering!

Thanks - I will be uploading several new ones in the next few weeks, including a brand new version 2.0 of this one. Also, how to hitch this one safely and another modifications video. Be on the lookout! I have also just started a new channel - Moment by Moman - that will be active before too long.

Hi Charles! Appreciate all your Runaway videos! Are you still going to do a Primer 2.0? I'm curious about your change of mind from the folding mattress to the permanent bed. Thanks! Your Shelbyville almost neighbor.
@charlesmoman
@charlesmoman 5 лет назад
Yes, I am working towards the Primer 2.0 - just been too busy with life and the recent videos I have been uploading. The Venturist intro video comes up later today. The bed is still the same folding one we started with. Thanks for watching! I hope to get the Primer 2.0 out next month. It will be more focused and shorter. I think I am getting better with each video or at least I try! Blessings!

Absolutely AMAZING video. Sounds to me like you should consider being an online specialist for Runaway. Thank you for sharing. Much love from Central California, city of Tulare.

I pretty much am. Look at the videos on my channel and you will see a zillion Runaway-related videos. In the last few months I have uploaded many. I am not paid by them and they have been working a little better with their social online stuff and they use mine as well. My production values have certainly increased since this first video. And thanks.

Hey if u place four pieces of plywood, and angle them to the ground leaning against your generator that will make your generator a whole lot quieter just use scrap plywood if that's all you have
@charlesmoman
@charlesmoman 5 лет назад
I suppose that would work - but we rarely use it and it is already very quiet. Thanks for watching!

A theif can still pull it away using the tow emergency chains. Some people cut the chains off and use a strong clip to reconnect them....then when parked and left, a thief has less opportunity to steal your camper. Lock the spare and use a wheel lock. This will just make it longer and harder for him to get....
