There's a glimmer of hope for Thailand's abused elephants thanks to Katherine Connor, founder of the Boon Lott's Elephant Sanctuary. This is her story ...
Earth Touch I know some "use" the animals to beg, as exampled early in this video...basically they're simply using the resources available to them to improve upon their poverty...but hell.... Poor bastards, elephant and human alike...but I can't believe they made the elephant with a broken leg work like that!
Me as well. This brought tears to my eyes!! Thank God for catherine!! This video was very sad , and beautiful and breathtaking all at the same time. :))
4:33 is breathtaking! So majestic! I know you said you couldn’t find any “Real Sanctuaries” however Lek and Darrick of ENP have been around now for 15 years. Do you know of and another? You would be so amazing in cooperation together! Thank you for all you do! You are truly restoring my faith in humanity! Blessings!
THIS is a beautiful place, full of compassion and love for elephants. This one and Elephant Nature Park are the ONLY 'sanctuaries' I would want to visit in Thailand. Most of the others are simply tourist traps making money off gullible humans, usually at the expense of the elephants.
I wish you would not say you're the only one Katherine. I applaud what you do but to discount Lek's elephant nature park is in poor taste. Please be careful what you say. Do no harm. Thank you dear.
Firstly, thank you for doing this. Secondly, not only was Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai established with exactly the same ethos 20 years before you, Lek is very forthcoming in helping other sanctuaries with the same aims, objectives and operational ethos to start up in Kanchanaburi, Laos, and Cambodia. A generosity of spirit that you could learn from Katherine, rather than claiming something that is simply not true.
Amazing. There should be more places out there like that. They don't belong in circus and other places. Beautiful sanctuary! The world could learn something from what she is doing !
thank you so much for your generous heart, Katherine. What you are doing for these magnificent, intelligent beings is priceless. I don't know where you are located but I guess you have also heard of Lek and her Elephant Nature Park north of Chiang Mai? She started her sanctuary in 1998, since then she has opened several others in Thailand, Cambodia and Myanmar, each time involving the local population that would otherwise lose their income through the loss of their elephant. Wishing you well on your important journey for the benefit and well-being of the gentle and oh so courageous giants.
Katherine Connor, you are an amazing gal for managing to establish this wonderful sanctuary for these gentle giants. I know that you are already being blessed & loved by the pachyderms you saved. I hope that you will be able to rescue many more elephants in the near future from their sorrowful plights which they are trapped in. May I suggest that you add more you tubes of these Majestic animals together with addresses given to the public, so if some one who may like to donate some funds would be able to do so easily...
Where's the best platform to post this video to tourists who are thinking/ planning to visit so-called elephant "sanctuary" in countries like Thailand? Many tourists do not understand the devastating consequences of paying money for elephant rides, visiting elephant zoos, participate in various entertainments performed by elephants.
Good thinking! There are many online travel forums where some people check beforehand to become familiar with activities to do. I would suggest posting the video or a link to it there, just search Thailand Travel tips and stuff like that on Google and some sites should come up!
Looking forward to more places just like this for abused elephants although ultimately zero abuse in the first place, rather that all people in Thailand and globally treat not only all elephants but all animals with respect, dignity and care, starting with respect for oneself. The way we feel about ourselves is the way we treat others people and animals.
I love you Katherine for loving and protecting these amazing gentle giants! You’re a saint! Do you and Lek from ENP know one another? What an amazing collaboration you would have together! Thank you again for all you do! God bless you all richly in Jesus Name Amen!
+Tim Rubin Halcomb i agree with you i love seeing videos like this!It is nice to see elephants rescued!Elephants are big animals and they dont deserve abuse.
Thank you Katherine for your big heart and patiently teaching people not to abuse our fellow beings. So happy other elephant sanctuaries are opening now i.e. Lek's Elephant Nature Park.
Katherine Connor is smart to help this. I would if I was older. Too many people are unaware of local elephant riding businesses in Thailand no matter what they say.
True but this is not about who was first, anyone working toward the elephants well-being or rescue is priceless and hard needed. I only wish that one day those people decide to get together to work together but above all to rally to put pressure on their gvt that refuses so far to support them, because some of the owners are influential politicians or businessmen
LOVE Boon Lott's, thank you Katherine for dedicating your life to saving these elephants from slavery and provide them with a happy, healthy retirement, where they can receive the proper physical and mental care they deserve!
You'd be surprised: Lek Chailert in northern Thailand has managed to convince 33 tourists camps to stop the riding of elephants, drop the bull hook, and instead, to shift to a gentle, motivational approach.
True but what Katherine is doing is also worthy, it certainly benefits the elephants that need rescuing and a peaceful place to roam. Every initiative in that sense is welcome
Thank you very so much save for elephants from heartless owners and our life's save & safety now.your heart💓is big heart your caring is lovely caring thank you very much 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Really, Katherine, you never went to Elephant Nature Park back in 2005? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elephant_Nature_Park ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6uRbZDeBKVw.html
First time I saw some good people with elephants................. I was longing to see such a video. God bless all the elephants in the sanctuary and all those elephants who are still to come here. These elephants are the luckiest domestic ones I've ever seen................
Profit is behind contributions, but value creation is behind profits, visitors pay for value. Rehabilitating elephants creates value for visitors, contributors, and employees, and also the elephants themselves. Elephants are still working, but as teachers and therapy for visitors. See: smallbusiness.chron.com/introduction-value-creation-business-42606.html
500 are only wild and free ? And 2.500 in chains and abused, dying from their injuries and mental suffering ? There were 300.000 not long time ago. It’s urgent to bread the young and healthy ones. Many thanks Catherine for your courage and heart.
Yo solo quiero que esas personas si es que. Se le puede decir así porque para mí son perros ojalá que les hagan lo mismo que ellos. Le hacen alos elefantes
Considering Lek and Darrick have been running a elephant sanctuary for many years now so this would be another sanctuary. The good thing is that Lek has been teaching owners about how to care for their elephants and even to surrender them to ENP, they were the first sanctuary to have volunteer weeks with the tourists where they stay and care for them, they even get to pay for the privilege of working with these gentle beasts. So I don't know whether this lady has been in contact with Lek on how to care and run a sanctuary for elephants, it does not matter whether it is large or small it is a haven for these eles, well done and kudos to you Katherine.
I like what she's doing, but again, it is really sort of presumptuous for a Westerner to go to these countries where people have lived and interacted with these animals for centuries or millennia and tell them that to ride on an elephant is wrong. Is riding a horse wrong? How do you know the elephants don't enjoy it? I'm sure they don't enjoy being beaten or injured, but that is probably not the usual treatment they receive. Ever seen a video of Indians riding an elephant which frightens off an attacking tiger? Should they have to put up with judgmental Westerners telling them they should just let the tigers eat themselves or their children because some pampered suburban hippy says it's wrong to ride an elephant?
Working an elephant in ANY capacity means that man has forced the elephant through Phajaan/Crush/Torture Training as a calf, that the elephant has suffered immense brutality, and this is standard: it's the way they do it, it IS usual treatment, using sharp steel bullhooks, chains, hobbles, knives, pickaxes, the elephant is subjugated into slavery through violence from humans. It's WRONG, Immoral, Unethical, Heinous, Vile. If a horse is beaten or forced, that too is Wrong, immoral, unethical, heinous, vile. All brutality of animals is wrong, regardless of the culture. Learn the truth of their practices, and Learn Ethics.
@@cacatr4495 Nonsense. Horses have to be broken in order to be ridden. That is "forcing" them but there's nothing brutal, heinous or unethical about it. Given your hyperbole I must assume your information about elephants is equally exaggerated.
@@GenXstacker *If* your words are to be believed, you know nothing about how captive elephants are forced to obey. Given your attitude, I do not find your words credible: I think you know that up to half of all captive Asian elephant calves die as the *direct result* of the severe brutality of Phajaan/Crush/Torture Training. If you are honestly ignorant, and I don't believe you are, then I dare you to watch a video of Phajaan/Crush/Torture Training, because *that is how they do it. No ignorant person can say "Nonsense," since they know that they don't know. So clearly, you *do know, but you are using the "blame the Westerner for sticking their nose in," or "use the horse excuse," to defend what I believe is your position in the brutal elephant-industries. You are here strictly to defend the deadly elephant-industries. You are here as an industry apologist, and a troll. You wrote about the breaking of the horse's Will. That is the long-ago way, and no intelligent, humane person of ethics works with horses that way anymore, not in the West. You are seeking a false argument on the basis of your lies.
