Hi Mark- Great shave; thank you! I’m glad the 34C and Feather combo worked well for you. It’s a nice juxtaposition that a milder razor can tame a sharper blade, and that a sharper blade can increase the efficiency of a milder shaver! I hope you are well. Be safe and best regards, as always, Mark!

Nice efficient shave. Have you used Nacet blades? I find them on par with Astra SPs and even a bit sharper. I used a Nacet in my Henson mild this morning and got a close smooth result. The one thing I like about the Henson is that when I've got a bit of irritation or a couple of blemishes, the mild quality of the Henson gives me a "darn fine shave" with no nicks or irritation. I'll have to try a Feather blade in the Henson to see if it increases the efficiency. Thanks for the tip. I also love Droid Black.

Love Nacet. My favorite. I find it safer than a feather. And more predictable than a feather. But feather blades after first and 2nd use get better and more comfortable.

Mark, great shave! I've found that using a super mild razor with a sharp blade gets me the best shaves. I'm able to make more passes and have less irritation overall than when I use more aggressive razors. Also, I find that my second shave with a feather blade is better than the first. Finally, have you ever considered "corking" a blade? That means lightly dragging the edges of a blade through a cork like from a wine bottle. I thought it was bunk until I tried it for the Reddit r/wetshaving Lather Games this year. It definitely resulted in a smoother shave with an Astra Green, which often drags a bit on my beard.

Hi, SwampFoxer. Yes, I have toyed with corking a blade using a styrofoam cup. Seemed to work fine...We had this discussion on a MMMB a week or so ago. It's worth revisiting for sure. Many wet shaves do claim the second use of a blade is better than the first.:)

The Merkur 34c and the Feather blade are a great combination. I recently started shaving my head again. I was using a hair trimmer for many years but I went back to shaving because I love the close smooth feel. The problem was the first time I shaved my head I looked like I tried sticking my head into a wood chipper. I let the hair grow a bit so I could heal up but tried shaving again but this time with my tried and true Merkur 34c with a Feather blade. What a huge difference! No nicks or cuts with very little to no irritation. I have a little collection of razors growing, which I love to use, but I feel so comfortable with the Merkur, which incidentaly was the second safety razor I ever bought. I find that I keep going back to my boring old 34c. I love that razor. P.S. Some day I'm going to be found dead holding my phone with your videos playing. Cause of death? Cardiac arrest from me being startled by your "BOOM! Lather" explosion. This is the second time you got me jumping out of my skin. 😆

@MarkSzorady
@MarkSzorady 3 года назад
Hi, Beth.:) I guess I can express it this way...I don't approach the Swedes with the same trepidation as I do the Feathers. The Swedes are a really good, smooth blade with a nice sharp edge. I'd say the Feathers have a bit more edge, but ultimately, I'd have to do a side by side. Or, I need to pop a Swede into the 34C and have a shave with 2 days of beard growth.

Great shave, Mark! The Merkur 34 is a great razor...no doubt about it, but I've had a few issues that precludes me from using it as my daily razor. YMMV is so true especially for me with regards to the Merkur 34: I can certainly use the 34 daily, but not with a Feather. It's just too problematic for me. I generally nick myself up with with it on the first shave, and 3 passes, for me is really asking for it. It's amazing, I also got a Rockwell 6C, and that did the trick with the multi-plate, perfectly. Between the 34, and plate 3 on the 6C, the 6c is just a little bit milder than the 34. Then, I can, switch over to plate 2 for a 2nd and 3rd pass. Having said that, for myself, I can still use the 34 (G) on a daily basis, but not with a Feather...usually a Gillette Silver Blue. I took me months to find the right combo, and technique...better than going back to the cartridges. Love that Droid...it's #1 on my shopping list. Looking forward to the MMMB!! Have a great day, Mark!

I own two 34C, one 34G and one 43C - and I agree. If you look closely after installing the blade in the razor, I quite often have a slightly skewed blade alignment. We're really talking minor minor misalignment, but it's definitely there on all my 4 34/43 Merkur razors.

Guy, that's gret to hear!:) Please let us know how you ikeit.:) Remember, the shaving angle is a bit narrower than most other razors. In all the shaves you have done using different razors and blades including the Feather blade what is the worst experience you have ever had?
@MarkSzorady
@MarkSzorady 3 года назад
Anthony, my worst shavings experiences have come from doing head shaves where I've pushed the envelope a bit too much and nicked myself pretty good. And there's plenty of evidence on my channel of this.:) So, yeah, again, I'd say that the worst shaving experiences are any of those head shave where I've had a mishap nick or cut due to using too aggressive a razor (or dialing up an adjustable to too high a level or aggression). I prefer mild razors and milder shaves, especially for head shaves. I have yet to use a Feather for a head shave (If I recall correctly). But may do so in the 34C or similar mild razor.:)

Three days growth and bbs in places where I could get them very comfortable. Also was the first attempt with a feather in about a year and a half mostly do to burning up my chin with the 34c. Nice review. I just ordered this shaver, plus a heap of accessories somehow I got sucked into. Anyway the online company I went with chucked in a heap of 5x sample packs of blades from Feather, Astra, Merkur, Wilkinson, Derby & Parker blades. The Feather ones you have are in the pack. Is there a big difference between makes and brands? Also how many shaves per blade should I expect? Thanks
@MarkSzorady
@MarkSzorady 2 года назад
Tugboat, I've found the 34C is a very mild razor. This is why I popped in a Feather. It is one of the sharpest blades on the market. The 34C tames it for me. So, yes, you'll find there are differences among blades. As they say, YMMV. Regarding number of shaves, it varies form wet shaver to wet shaver. My rule of thumb has been 2 to 3 shaves and I pop in a new blade. Some wet shavers claim they can get 5, 6, or 7 shaves. Some wet shavers claim even more although I have no way to verify. Again, YMMV.
