"Klark Kent: An Enigma Wearing a Mask Wrapped in a Cloak of Diabolical Green Mystery" Dir. Ben deHoedt (2019)
Original music used with permission from Stewart Copeland. Original photos used with permission from Craig Betts and Lawrence Impey. Interview audio used with permission from George Gimarc.
"Klark Kent" was the alter-ego of Stewart Copeland for a moment in time when his band, the Police, were just getting started on their way to giving the Beatles a run for their money. This very short film was based on a recorded interview with American DJ, record and radio program producer and author, George Gimarc, recorded in 1980. Needless to say, Copeland stayed in character.

Got the KK record at age 12 in the midst of my (1982) Police mania…& have loved it ever since! I even got to meet Stewart once at a NAMM show in California and he signed my Office Talk 45… He was really surprised that anyone still had a Klark Kent single! This is a really cool little tribute film… Thank you for posting!

Klark's former nanny did the green make-up. She told me. But of course I don't know who Klark really is, despite meeting him at a local music shop, where he signed a green vinyl record for me. Thanks for the upload. I enjoyed it a lot.

Having only discovered Klark Kent in late 2020 - can’t get enough. This is so funny- love it! (“So, have you ever met Stewart Copeland? Well, yes I have. The man has a genius for rhythm that I have a great respect for and it’s hard not to be influenced by, you know, talent like that.”)

@@TheKinoEye don't kid yourself! that kid never knew what he was doin'! but he was very honest about that, despite the klever wordplay! he had a real knack for jumpin' on or around a given beat, track, blazin' his own trails~~~ he did it his way, in a manner-of-speakin', he let his sticks do the kickin'! - which was neat-o! WHAM-O! BADA *BING-GO!*~! stingo was lucky and he owes it all to the stew! haha!! and everybody knows it's true!

Gorgeous, absurdist, brilliant, retro, futurist, anarchistic, Copeland. Cheers for uploading this.

Sting would probably say the same kinds of things about Kinetic Ritual and the countless concubines ...except that Sting would be totally serious.

Thank you! If I could have seen this in 1983, I'd still be screaming with delight in an insane asylum.

Loved KK in high school and college in the 80s. Played that cassette over and over and over. Glad to see this little resurgence.

think about it tho: stew was super-fortunate he was given stingo! of course without andy, the whole thing would've been a no-go~ this was too-good-to-be-true! but wouldn't it be cool, to see what would've happened, had they never crossed paths, or met, and they each had had to go another way, those three wise men? they were superduper cool, but they collectively channeled and sucked up so much force, and power, attention and wealth, with what they assembled, that there's just no tellin', what might've been done with all that power and whatnot, had it not been sucked up by that lot! it staggers the imagination! the power they used, consumed, and transformed, [and shared] very generously and profusely for sure, may or may not have been well-spent...but at least we still have their considerable contributions and their stories... bravo!!

the stuff they did after the band dis-banded, was [perhaps no less] great too, especially that of sting and andy, ironic'ly enough! [but!] andy's the champ, stingo was doin' great, right up thru the 1990's! andy's latest one was a little bit weird, what was that one called, somethin' about 'triboluminescence' or somethin'? whatever he was smokin', he shoulda enlisted s'more help wit' that but whatever, he's entitled to plenty more self-indulgence, what the hell! i think it's safe to say he's the best at gettin' great drummers, any one of 'em, of course would've changed that whole thing, i get it, and i wanna do that too, sort of do it all, without too-many-cooks-in the you-know-what, right? it's always taken quite a few listens , in order to appreciate andy's stuff, and that last one, is gonna take awhile just to get thru again once, haha! i'm sure there's a couple tracks on there that'll bring me back to listen again, like i said , if i ever get that far thru the damn thing- here's hopin' he's workin' on the third or fourth album since then, i'm always the last to know! but i mean, happiness hasn't been very kind to stingo, in terms of what's comin' outta him musically, or shall we say artistic'ly? - i shoulda been a critic! haha!! stewart's great at whatever he does, a blazin' star! but i'll be damn'd if i ever become some opera buff, that just ain't happenin'- thusfar!
