Oh god Zombes, why did you do this to yourself? I'm the craziest Kirby lorehound out there and even I haven't finished writing my whole-series rundown yet. Oh well, here we go... - Your recap of Forgotten Land is pretty much completely correct. Nothing is confirmed because HAL is terminally allergic to definitive statements but the evidence does indeed point towards the humans from the New World going on to become the Ancients. This is especially plausible given the IMMENSE time difference between the New World's universe and the standard universe. - We don't actually know who made the Dimensional Mirror. It certainly seems LIKELY that the Ancients made it but Amazing Mirror's lore in particular is a shitshow that we've received very little addition to. - Other people in the comments have said this but it wasn't just Hyness who was banished. He had followers - possibly a large amount - and they were all exiled with him, which is how he went on to form a whole entire cult. Ancient society at that time was composed of Ancients who mostly Did Tech and Ancients who mostly Did Magic, and they worked together with these disciplines to create their crafts. Hyness was one of the magic-using Ancients and he also had some kind of prescience, because he foresaw a great calamity and the others didn't believe him, which seems to be the starting point for his exile. - Dedede is only the king of Dreamland, not Popstar. Dreamland is a small country on Popstar. - yea nightmare has pretty much no impact on the lore it's p. funny - Dark Matter Swordsman needs to come back yesterday he's one of the sickest designs in the entire series. you are correct. - OKAY I'M SO SORRY TO HAVE TO LAUNCH INTO THIS RANT NOW BUT WE GOTTA. WE GOTTA DO THIS. - As much as the Entire Fandom would like you to believe otherwise, as far as we know, Dark Matter Is Not Void. Kirby Is Not Void Either. In particular, the text that people point to as proving Kirby is Void reincarnated is actually saying that Kirby influenced Void, not the other way around. See, the thing about Void is that it's a chaos god. It's a primordial force with no fixed form or alignment. Its form is SO malleable, in fact, that we're told straight up that the summoning ritual will influence its form according to the desires of the caster. This is exactly what happens when Hyness unseals Void - Termina is not actually Void's "original" form! The Ancients did not encounter Void in its Termina form. Void only became Termina because Hyness, in his fervent zealotry, wanted to summon a Destroyer Of Worlds! Termina is a rampaging, world-eating disaster literally because Hyness Made It That Way. In fact, Termina is even MORE shaped by Hyness than it might have otherwise been, because Hyness explicitly botched the summoning ritual and had to use himself as the final chunk of power for it. Termina is basically 90% Hyness' anger and delusions by volume. This is also why Termina references so many other things without actually being related or connected to them in meaningful ways. All of those Master Crown attacks it has? Hyness is an Ancient, possibly one of the very Ancients who made the Crown. And yes, all of the Dark Matter references, too. They come straight down from Hyness, who is hinted to be a Dark Matter cultist. Either he thought that Void was a facet of Dark Matter, or he fooled himself into believing that after his endless years of exile, or maybe he knew all along that it wasn't and he just didn't care, it served his purposes. Because he was running a death cult. The exile from the Ancients drove him mad from grief. It's not surprising that he gravitated towards Dark Matter, another seemingly-universal force associated entirely with sadness and destruction. And all of this is why Kirby (probably) isn't Void. Void's form and alignment being so inherently fluid is illustrated throughout the entire fight with it. The text at the end saying that Void might come back as a friend is exactly what it says - during the battle, Void is influenced more and more as Kirby's pure, loving energies clash with the initial dark energies that Hyness built it with. You can see Void eject Hyness and the mages and watch as it starts imitating Kirby more and more. By the end of the fight, it's thrashing around like a child because that's literally what it is - it's barely a newborn and already it's having its identity reset. Kirby isn't a reincarnation of Void, he's just the friend it needed to come back to the world as a force for good next time. - okay carry on I'm so sorry I had to drop that on you the lore in this series is a mess and Star Allies in particular did irreparable damage - Zero tearing his own eye out and exploding into blood is still the funniest prank to pull on non Kirby fans it rocks - welcome to the K64 club we are All still arguing about Shiver Star and forgor land did nothing to help that - 02's design is so endlessly cool and I love him so much. All the Dark Matter designs whip absolute ass. The band-aid is goofy as hell but it's actually (probably!) where he tore his own eye out as Zero! Yeah! That old wound! And now for your additional fun fact... HAL literally refuses to clarify what the exact relationship between Zero and 02 is, to the point of actively casting doubt on their own statements. Despite everything about 02's design screaming "I am Zero back from the dead", if you ask HAL what the hell is up, they just tell you to go fuck yourself. Also the thing about 02 being unable to feel positive emotions is entirely fanon. Dark Matter lore is thin on the ground at the best of times but our poor guy 02 here has Absolutely None. He has the single sickest theme in the whole series though and even HAL agrees with that. - We have nothing on Drawcia and how she might or might not be connected to Dark Matter, even though she is straight up wearing a Swordsman's outfit so she's automatically Suspicious As Hell. We also have nothing on Dark Mind, since Amazing Mirror lore is non-existent, BUT, given how the Mirror World seems to work, it's a pretty easy conclusion to draw that he's some kind of counterpart. However! We actually have a statement on Dark Nebula!! Woohoo!! He is in fact, Officially A Dark Matter! We can lay that one to rest. (His name is even "Dark Zero" in Japan.) - KSSU is a great time to add one of probably the most important things to remember about Kirby lore: extra modes aren't canon. With very, very few exceptions, everything that happens in an extra mode has no bearing on the main game. They're built as fun "what if" scenarios. This is especially important to keep in mind with Return to Dreamland and everything the remake added. - Magolor lost control of his body the second he entered second phase/Magolor Soul. The crown was influencing him during the first phase, but as of the second phase he's literally DEAD. The corpse is puppeting his BODY. To quote the original game's English text, "a sad shell". - Also the eye is the crown's eye, the crown is not as far as we know related to Dark Matter, if I have to hear this theory one more time I'm going ape - HAL pulled a really sneaky trick with the entire Magologue. It turns out that the entire mode is actually exmode Magolor, not main story canon Magolor. At the very start, the flashback cutscene of Magolor's defeat specifically shows Magolor Soul, not standard design Magolor. As much as HAL loves to be vague and contradictory as shit, they don't make mistakes like that. That was a choice. So the Magolor who went into the Clash universe was exmode Magolor. Canon Magolor presumably went through some similar ordeals but came back to the main universe and set up his theme park, like we already knew. - yep that's how Triple Deluxe all went down. sick game i love it so much. There's a bunch more lore around Sectonia in particular but it's all dreaded Miiverse Backstory Lore and it's not relevant to the main thread here. - Yep, Star Dream's attempts to grant Haltmann's wish failed! The specific reason it failed is because Haltmann thought Susie had died in the accident, so he kept wishing for Star Dream to bring her back to life. But Susie wasn't dead, she was just flung into Another Dimension. So Star Dream, being a simple mindless computer back then, couldn't grant this wish. Because she wasn't dead. But Haltmann kept wishing, and wishing, and using Star Dream, and uhhh yeah mentally interfacing with an omniscient supercomputer isn't too good for your brain and that's how that mess all happened - also yeah Another Dimension's name in English is Bad. If it helps (it won't), in Japanese it's more closely translated as the "dimensional road". This is because Another Dimension isn't truly a single dimension in itself, it's actually the space between dimensions. The cosmic path of least resistance. This is why everything is so fucked up and physics-break-y in there. - Arenas and True Arenas aren't canon either but they gave Star Dream a fucking kaizo attack and that still goes hard. CONTINUED IN REPLY BECAUSE I CAN'T SHUT UP AND RU-vid'S CHARACTER CAP SUCKS
CONT: - GOD STAR ALLIES IS SUCH A MESS. THE TRANSLATION WAS ABOMINABLE AND THE ORIGINAL TEXT WAS SO VAGUE AND UNORGANISED THAT EVEN A GOOD TRANSLATION WOULDN'T HAVE SAVED IT - The Jamba Heart splitting up into Dark Hearts was caused by Hyness botching the ritual. This was only posted IN A SWITCH NEWSPOST YOU HAVE TO STOP THIS HAL, but the Friend Hearts were actually the shattered shards of the Friend Spears that were sealing Void away. They didn't come from the Jamba Heart. The Friend Hearts are where all the Friend Powers came from, and they're also how Kirby was able to make a new set of Friend Spears at the end. - Anyway see all of my comments about Void up above. Everything about Void that resembles Kirby, ESPECIALLY the Void Suite, is illustrating how Kirby is more and more influencing Void and changing it for the better. It's honestly so rad. Environmental storytelling done via gameplay and bgm. Clever as hell. - Everything about Elfilis fucks into infinity. Goes hard as hell. This boss had no right to be as cool as they were what the fuck. - Galacta Knight is so funny the poor fucker STILL isn't canon. Rip. Maybe one day my good man. Anyway I'm Rosa and this has been Jackass. Thank you for coming to my TEDtalk and if you want more insane ramblings about children's vidoe game lore you know where to find me.
As someone who got into Kirby in Forgotten Land, I’ve never understood why people say Void is Kirby/Dark Matter. You’re only the second person I know that says otherwise, and the first one I saw said HAL confirmed it in an interview or something, but they never gave a link to it
… That leads back to the original hole, which then catapults ya across the galaxy only to asteroid slingshot back into a stable orbit around the accretion disc of this enigmatic pink baby deity thing that has no right being this adorably family friendly with a lore that borders on Lovecraftian horrorterror. >)X^D
Important thing to note: Hyness wasn't the only ancient who got banished. As far as we know, ancients were split between those who did magic and those who built tech, and together they would create the artifacts that we find throughout the series. Hyness was just one of the banished magical ancients, as the technological ancients feared their magic and felt that one day they'd take over the galaxy. None of this really affects the story but it's kinda neat.
It matters in the sense that the technological ancients, aka the humans, were also racist as well towards the Squidward race, which is just... Very much not unexpected of them lmao
@@vienlacrose oh no he's not. We already have an example of what a human looks like in Kirby graphics, and it's Adeleine. For how they would fully look, look at Neitchel
@@Fannintendociccio1 Unfortunately there's nothing stating that Adeleine is a human and HAL loves to be infuriatingly flip-floppy on Adeleine in particular. They keep going back and forth on whether or not her and Ado are the same character, for example, even though we literally have official material stating this to be the case. Neichel is the only "true" example we have at the moment.
@@Electrosa i don't know exactly what you're talking about, it's pretty obvious she is a human and ado and her as the same person. Was it the 20th anniversary book that was kind of vague about them? I think that enough development has happened about that to be clear now regardless
If I had a nickel for every time Daszombes made a lore video about a game where there was once a super advanced civilization vaguely referred to as "The Ancients" whose reality-bending escapades are super important to the story of the game, I would have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.
oh, but Rain World never refers to the group you speak of as "The Ancients," only using that term once to refer to the Depths civilization, which was many, many eons before the ones we know and love who built everything else in the game. The term's more a community-made term than anything.
First time you hear about Kirby lore, you think: "Oh, they must be exaggerating. Surely". But with every new mention of it, and with every new game, this rabbit hole starts to look more and more like a home.
fun fact! in one of the kirby comics, the so-called "butterfly of judgement" apparently straight up acts as a sort of grim reaper in the underworld, landing on warriors in their lowest moments to see if they have enough will to live or something along those lines; and whoever lacks that will gets absorbed, the monarch butterfly taking the form of the poor soul who just got literally fucking atomized (in this case being galacta knight). another cool fact is that you can see the same butterfly landing on kirby and flying off at the start of almost every kirby game after return to dreamland, further solidifying the fact that kirby is probably a god who's going to fucking murder us all one day
other random things: - galacta knight was sealed by the ancients in a war in the distant past iirc (might be wrong about this) - the ancients made the star rod, which seals nightmare on dreamland - the dimensional mirror has a mirror version of like everyone in the series including dedede, meta knight (dark meta knight), kirby (shadow kirby), nightmare/dark matter/zero (dark mind) - another dimension also has like parallel versions of everyone in the series as well for some reason??? they like to use alternate versions of bosses for extra modes and they're often mirror dimension or another dimension counterparts idk - during magolor soul phase 2 in the new remake you can hear magolor sobbing and crying out for help to kirby in the background of the music track
Galacta knight also sealed void in the Jamba heart. It’s not really the most well known because you only find out in a spin-off game that magolor was banished to after killing the master crown fused with a tree born from microtransactions. Kirby lore is weird
Another dimension doesn't have parallel versions of everyone (I think), the pause descriptions of the parallel bosses in Star Allies describes how they were created and I guess it just kinda happened to be in another dimension
Okay most of this is accurate but 1 thing I really need to clarify The mage sisters are hyness's daughters and he raised them and trained them in magic after he saved all of them from near death experiences. The ice one was freezing in a blizzard, the fire one was burning in an inferno, and the lightning one was trying to kill herself by getting struck by lightning in a thunder storm
@@syweb2 yeah exactly that's what I meant. They're his adoptive daughters. Also when the insanity wears off he seems to genuinely care for them like family so I don't think they're just high ranking members.
Something I'd like to point out is that, hyness wasn't a weirdo until the non-magic ancients (the technological ones)(this is also unconfirmed but implied) banished the magic ones, and hyness went insane because of it until Kirby fixed him. Also, Haltman's daughter ( who is Suzie), was lost and Haltman wanted to bring her back until he went insane because of stardream, which he was attempting to use to bring her back, and every time he used it he lost a little bit of his mind, but she eventually found her way back, but her memories were gone (hence why stardream couldn't bring her back from the dead). And (THEORY kinda) there HAS to be something REALLY important about the warpstar that Kirby rides I don't know what but it has to be important somehow like warp is in the name and it's a star just like the star portals
Susie never lost her memories of Haltmann. In both the Japanese and English scripts of Planet Robobot, Susie completely remembers who Haltmann is and what happened, and her objectives are "to teach him a lesson". The reason why Star Dream couldn't bring Susie back is because Haltmann believed she was dead, and kept wishing to bring Susie back to life. Star Dream couldn't fulfil this wish because Susie didn't die in the accident.
I’m honestly surprised you did a lore video for Kirby!! This was pretty cool. I’ve been a fan of Kirby for a long time, to see one of my favorite RU-vidrs cover it is just awesome! Also that cactus thing under zero 2 is the root of all evil.
joined for rain world, staying for kirby lets goooooo this video has the same vibes of an unpaid lecturer speedrunning an intro for a subject the students already learnt about.. good thing i have an accidental phd in kirby lore
I think shiver star is an attempt at a manually terra formed earth once the ancients entered the Kirby dimension. The planet might have even been manually or partially manually heated which is why with the absence of humans the temperature plummeted.
Can't believe you did meta knight so dirty. How can we not talk about how in Kirby right Back at cha that he has a Spanish accent and when ever he shows up there's a guitar flourish
My favorite rain world content generator not only is rising to be one of my favorite content generators in general, but also is a Kirby fan. Now he made a leap to my top 6th
Kirby being a reflection of the void in it's purest form, makes a lot of sense as the void entity seems to be a dark reflection of kirby's powers, being able to possess other entities, thus gaining control of their powers.
I FULLY SUPPORT THIS! I didnt know you were a kirby fan as well, and I'm fully on board with it! I'd be fully down to see you do more comprehensive kirby lore!
Oh just one minor thing too which i find funny, in dreamland 3 there is the “Player 2” Analog, Gooey who is stated to be “made from the same stuff as Dark Matter but he doesn’t have an evil spirit” and like Kirby, can ingest enemies and take their powers… albeit to a limited degree. Just idk Gooey’s neat for only appearing in a handful of games.
I will always enjoy a good Kirby rant. I've rewritten my comment three times trying not to spill my guts ranting. All I'll say is it's interesting how Magolor, Marx, and Hyness live happily but Taranza lost his best friend, Susie lost her dad, and Galacta Knight was first canonically depressed before becoming canon.
It’s wild I know just as much about Kirby lore and have my own options on it. when someone makes a vid on it I click instantly every time. Fucking love Kirby.
I feel like you could have mention the ACTUAL SUICIDE ATTEMPT that one of the mage sisters had and was saved from by hyness. Also there is the whole implied multiverse created by the remake of krtdl in the form of magolor’s diverging fates and it’s possible “cannonification” of the team Kirby clash spin-offs. But other than that this was most enjoyable as a Kirby lore scholar.
18:36 this is where fecto elfilis becomes chaos elfilis and gets that power cause after the morpho knight and during that after fight cutscenes you can actually see elfilis in forgo form escape from morpho knight
Kirby is the only kids game where the devoured or devoured of world just kinda passes by the main character every once in a while until it decides you need to die.
One mistake you made is that Susie is max. Haltmann's daughter. Because the ship was a nova, stardream (powered by the ship) was, in fact, able to grant the wish. However, it also took some of Haltmann's soul to the point that he couldn't recognize her.
0:29 Well thanks, I was going to watch this while going asleep. But I would have probably end up forgetting everything tomorrow, so I'll watch this later
Btw Void could be the god of the multiverse since it is also described as “The Ancestor of Origin” in Japanese texts and he does exist in every single dimension. This kinda suggests that his birth…created the Multiverse. Also I would like more Kirby lore yes
i have seen someone mention that the reason Zero Two has a weird spiked plant coming out of it is because it’s a reference to the fact that Zero is the root of evil, aka, all of the Dark Matter that has been trying to control the universe. pretty nifty idea to have an excuse to make such a strange and abstract design~
Honestly love seeing you cover another games lore and hope you do more of that in the future. For a summary of Kirby Lore this was really good. Considering trying to summarize this franchise gives you more questions then answers like a lot of questions. Like seriously what is up with Morpho Knight why is he single handedly one of the most powerful characters in this franchise and why do we know so little about him
The reason that Chaos Elfillis is using all the Void attacks is because Morpho Knight consumed Elfillis and then had some of their power taken away in return. I have seen the end of the Forgotten Land's Extra Mode myself. and fought that game's True Arena with a level of ease I couldn't attain in other Kirby games. It was still HARD, don't get me wrong, but not nigh-impossible. I know every single bit of lore about Kirby, from the first game to the last. Also Return to Dreamland Deluxe's new Extra Mode, Magolor, the Interdimensional Traveler, shows footage of Super Kirby Clash at the end of the credits sequence, meaning Super Kirby Clash is now dubiously canon. Now there are TWO canon timelines in Kirby. and I thought FNAF was a doozy...
8:00 fun fact: 02 was created from the discarded corpse of the original Zero, that bandage on the top of it’s head? That’s where it’s eye was gouged out. That ‘cactus’ it’s actually Zero’s rotting flesh… yea… ‘fun’
the ever returning presence of Void and the entire idea of a Dreamland and eldrich horror makes me think of HP Lovecrafts Azathoth character. Its the most powerful being thats dreams create reality
Implication from the forgotten land A man is sent to a new dimension, lost for months as he looks for his family while a eldritch deity is messing with his mind until he’s mind controlled and forced to kidnap his family. This is king dedede by the way
Oh, i'm glad that I wasn't the only person who saw Kirby as some king of cosmic horror that has an endless void for a gut and can shit out stars at will like some cute hello kitty version of Azathoth. I've had this opinion of Kirby since I was a kid playing Kirby All-Stars and made the connection lol. Its fun that basically the decades of material created since then have only reinforced this connection hahaha.
Haltmann's daughter did return - it's Susie. But Haltmann was so focused on completing Star Dream that he never recognized his wish was no longer necessary. Also Dark Matter Swordsman shows up in Robobot's Meta Nightmare mode.
I summarized this summary: Sakurai, the creator, brought forth Kirby, a special being. Sakurai has a fondness for crafting sentient spheres with one or two eyes. Popstar, a land rich in resources, is coveted by many for their selfish desires. However, the butterfly is a lie. The humans, also known as Ancients, possess overwhelming power and create mighty weapons accessible to anyone (super soakers). Sentient spheres can be either good or bad, determined by a coin toss with Sakurai's skillful flipping. Kirby harbors a hatred for trees, while Dedede asserts his kingship with his own theme song, because-... Anyways, the game centers around Kirby and his followers. Enemies eventually transform into allies, except for Zero, the embodiment of evil in this world, akin to Lucifer. Dark matter represents the demons within (Or something like that).
My theory is that the different reincarnations of void represent different feelings. Kirby is happiness. Fecto Elfilis is wanting to destroy. 0/02/dark matter is loneliness etc
Very short summary of kirby franchise that doesn't just tone down to "Pink Gumball Fights Beings of Eldritch Power." 9.5/10, too many Void reincarnations
dude YESSSS....... the kirby series and rain world shaking hands over having cute characters and shitloads of winding, convoluted lore. you love to see it. you ALSO love knowing that yeah, kirby is basically a final boss in his own right who's pretty much demonstrably more powerful than any of the adversaries he's faced which is saying a LOT at this point, but he's just. fighting for the sake of good and also so he can go take a nap. honestly based
Hell Fucking Yes make as many kirby videos as you want dude!! I've been a Kirby fanatic since I was like five years old, this series is my _lifeblood!_ (also there were a lot of inaccuracies in this video?? mostly just small details but still noticeable)
galacta knight is mostly like (all tough still speculated) to be one of the 4 hero's that sealed void termina away before being sealed itself cause they fear his power
8:08 Hey!!! No kink shaming!!!! If he wants to massage his prostate with a cactus, then that’s his right. He just needs to do it In the privacy of his own home.😊
