Another caveat - Wemby is a Fanatics-exclusive signer, so him not having autos in Panini products mean his base and parallels will hold higher value than normal due to no autos

I'm not sure you're correct here. I've watched 15 cases of this opened and I'd guess that a Wembanyama base is only being pulled 1 in every 30 blaster boxes. At $30 a blaster thats $900 to get you a base Wembanyama on average. Currently these early blaster boxes have the base Wemby as an extremely short print. With the demand, his potential, and the extreme limited availability at the moment I think it will surely go up in value unless Panini decides to change the print run on these later with future variations of the product. But I'll bet money, with the current back drop, that future Prizm products Panini releases will have a different photo for all the rookies with higher print runs. Making these early short print ones exceptionally coveted.

yeah! Ive seen a guy in yt break 8 boxes and got one Prizm base RC. Could be an SP base card who knows but i think the market has changed a bit and with that the coming of Wemby and his hype. 4-5 years down the road this could sell for 100-150 give or take. 5 years later if they get to the conf finals or the finals... sheeeeeesh! it would hopefully appreciate more... Id trade keldon and picks for a legit star. Keep sochan and vassell, the rest can go

I feel like this will follow the Luka and be minimum 80-100 bucks in 3 years when he’s breaking all kinds of block records and prolly a defensive player of the year he finished 2nd his rookie year he’ll win it next year or the year after and this card gonna shoot up

I agree with everything you said Chris as this seems to be the case each year. Generally the cards that rise are the unexpected players who rise after the rookie year. One idea for a "punishment" could be you have to create a better photo shop version of the card.

Really good video as usual, insights backed by fact. No way should that base Card be anywhere near $100- and I'm a Wemby Fan who has been chasing his Cards. Agreed. If you miss the prediction, you should take a photo in front of a black curtain with a similarly poor Photoshop job wearing a Spurs uniform in the Prizm design, print 10 copies, sign them, and give them out at the Chantilly show.

Pretty wild. Purdy has had the absolute best case scenario play out for his cards this entire season. You couldn’t have asked for anything more, performance-wise, as the 49ers make their way into the playoffs. Which is the hottest time for desirability. Yet, all that being said, the Purdy’s are still only selling for 15 bucks.

Something Wembanyama might have to keep his cards a little warmer than Purdy had will be a run at the Rookie of the Year award. That award will be announced between your two Prediction dates. Now, granted, I think the heat generated should he win will be minimal and probably done a week or two after the award, but how the market will react to his two-horse race with Chet could be interesting. Whoever wins will get a little bump, whoever loses a little drop-off…..

Hi Chris, I had a random video idea today. I've been trying to collect some rare junk wax era cards and realized that a lot of key players in very common sets from the 90's aren't graded nearly as much as I thought. Even 1990 Donruss doesn't have a crazy PSA pop count compared to a lot of 2018/2019 stuff. To that point, a lot of these cards have under 1000 PSA 10's yet those cards go for pretty cheap. It makes me think that a lot of these high grade cards from the 90's are very overlooked. People just assume the supply is unlimited and the sets are junk so no one wants to grade them. I'd also be very surprised if someone opening up 30+ year old product can get a gem rate over 2%. Once the supply of sealed junk wax dries out, I wonder if a renewed interest will return as the junk wax era is very nostalgic for multiple generations even young people who open junk wax packs today for fun. In summary, I think the junk wax era sets are overlooked as grading was not very prevalent at the time and people thought of these sets as garbage by the time grading was popular. Because of that, there's a lot of low pop PSA10's that get overlooked in a lot of "famous" sets.

There's no doubt his highlights are crazy, but his eFG is less than mediocre at 43%, and currently he doesn't affect winning. He may be a rookie in the NBA, but he's been playing professionally for years now with very little improvement in his 3 point shot. I look at Kevin Durrant's rookie season he shot 28% from 3 point, but improved to 42% in year 2, then leveled to 38%. For me a good predictor of Wemby's success in the NBA will be his 2nd year 3 point percentage. Anything less than 33% I would sell on him becoming an all time great. Also, the rate of injury for players 7'3" and taller is astronomical. I'm hoping for the best, but the data doesn't support him reaching his potential at this point. He's a seriously high risk card for investing, so waiting for the the market to crash makes sense if you want to invest.

Victor's case is no different than CJ Stroud's, they're both the only rookies of their class who truly lived up to their hype and are exceeding expectations. Prizm is always a terrible set value-wise, now it's literally hit 1 specific rookie or you take a massive L.

100% I agree...let me just say I'm glad someone else noticed the sh!t job Panini did with both the Brock n Wembys... I think we need to go back to the Beckett for mat for pricing cards... It's obvious that collectors can't be trusted with setting the bar for the price of cards it's just ridiculous... Let Beckett,PSA,SGC,or someone or some company set the card prices... No cards back wen I collected in the early 90s went for anywhere near what they go for now... If ur know do a RU-vid only giveaway...

Good point. I would say any prizm set pre-2018 has a much lower print run (the farther back you go, the lower the print run) and isn't really comparable in my opinion.

I agree! The print runs of all sports cards are through the roof now! I started trying to rebuild my collection in 2019-2020 and I paid to much for a lot and paid cheap for a lot of cards! But I was going out buying boxes to try to pull the cards I wanted and buying in breaks and I have gave up on breaks but buy a box every month or so now to open for fun! But I took your advice and I just buy the cards I want and I’ve saved in the long run! I’m a big Julio Rodriguez fan and collector and was trying to get one of every RC and it’s not impossible but it’s to many to even consider it worth the money! But o have gotten lucky and got several low #d cards of his and those are what I’m Hoping will be the long term investments! But I’m a small time investor and big time collector! So it’s more about the love of the hobby than what I gain in the long run! But I still want to buy smart cards! So now I focus on HOFers and Vintage graded cards! I always have to remind myself to wait when a new release comes out and my PC player is included in it. I won't buy any base cards and will try and get in player breaks but will go after any /25 or lower cards. Because you might not ever get another chance on the rarer cards.

Zion-Luka-SGA prices were sky high thanks to the surplus of people coming into the hobby during the boom. You know, those "collectors" who were just following the pump and dumpers of that time. No one is really pumping Wemby,, if anything, many Collectors don't beleive he has physical attributes to have a long (HOF?) career.

Love the channel! My dad and I watch your videos. If anyone could please please give me some advice, my father has roughly 500 baseball cards from the 60s he started collecting when he was 8 years old and has kept the cards in a box for the last 50 years. We started to go thru them and there seems to be some really valuable cards but NOTHING is graded yet. What’s the best way to start selling some of these cards? Should we really go get 500 cards graded or should we take them to an action or what? So sorry to sound like a “noob” at this but him and I have never sold cards before and I want to make sure we do it the right way. Thank you for the help anyone

Learn the value of the cards, if there is no value there do not waste your time grading a 10.00 card when it is going to cost you 15.00 or more. Any HOF from that era are in general can be valuable. Mantle, Aaron, Clemente, Mays, Ryan, are valuable. Never sell anything before you learn the value of what you have.

I saw in one of his videos he did a top 10 sell list of 2023 and the top 4 were graded by SGC I believe but there seems to be a big PSA following. Any opinion on one verses the other? @@danielmorackPSA has the most brand loyalty and rich collectors. If you think the card will grade well, PSA is the way to go

@danielmorack keep in mind psa has a much lower max value cap for their economy tier than sgc does. If you have cards like those HOFers in high mid grade ( think 7-9) the value will push it up to the next tier at psa. Psa is 65 days turnaround where as sgc is 15 days. The values are getting close enough where sgc might be the better option at that point

@@danielmorack personally prefer SGC, they are less expensive, quicker turnaround times, have very good customer support, and I prefer the look of their slabs over PSA. If I buy graded cards the PSA or SGC designation means very little to me.

Panini has had curtains in the background of rookie cards dating back to 2009, go look at Steph Curry’s 2009 Panini #307 & #357, is it still a lazy effort from Panini though? Definitely, they could have picked a better photo but I doubt Wemby was going to risk an injury going up for dunks during a rookie photo shoot.

im happy you said the thing about "if your a collector go buy it if you want it" lol - i recently bought a griffey card i have always wanted that RARELY goes up for sale (like 1 every 2 yrs) because it is rare. I saw it listed for buy it now like 20 minutes after it posted for buy it now or best offer, i just slammed the buy it now vs. submitting offers because i couldnt live with myself if i missed my chance because i was trying to get like 50 bucks off or something lol. Anyway, love the saturday vids!

Not a good comparison. Griffey cards have stabilized for years now. Their values don't change. The Wemby is going down and will continue to go down until it's a 10 dollar card. So if you are a collector, wait 1 year and go buy Wemby for 5 bucks

To me that's not very reliable..They still need many pieces to their figuring out how to win games.. I'm not sold on him... The photo on the Wemby card is actually from the NBA rookie photo shoot, so not photoshopped. But yeah definitely a crappy image for such a big card

I also think of the 2022 Topps Wander Franco Rc. Especially once the first PSA submissions came back and they went for well over $2000. Whats it’s worth now in a 10? Under $10?

I think that you are spot on with your analysis. Possible punishment (which seems unfair for you to burden alone since I agree with you!😂) is that you have 10 custom cards produced, with you in the exact same pose/position as Wemby, and send them to random commenters to this video. And the back could read “Chris Sewall here, collector, investor, dealer, supply and demand mythbuster in that order”.

If Luka is a 60 dollar card still, I'd be shocked this card is going for any less. Zion and Edwards don't have near the hype as Wembenyama and dude is doing some insane shit while playing 24 minutes.

Justin, are you like 13 and weren't old enough yet to see the Zion hype? Zion was hyped way MORE than Wembenyama has been in the NBA speculator, I mean "hobby", world. Zion and Luka are the 2 most over-hyped sport card athletes of all-time in my eyes.
