I'm currently struggling with "fill lights" and how to know when they are not to strong or just not powerfull enough.. Maybe you could show how to set up secondary lights to enhance a subject ?

To be honest a lot of the time you do not need anyyyy fill light cause digital sensors are so sensitive. Many time im using a negative fill to make it even darker. But the only way to be exact is a light meter or false color

Awesomee tips! Visually, my favorite was the light bouncing from the reflector - even though you're not much of a fan of it. It felt more natural as if a window was open in the room. Awesome vid as per usual! Thanks for the lesson!

Don't forget the combo bounce into a beadboard then diffuse through the frosty shower curtain for a fantastic soft "book-light" setup. Use this all the time for photography, and it's gorgeously soft.

Great work. Thank you. I use shower curtains and Visqueen plastic. Its cheaper then a shower curtain. You can buy it at most hardware, home improvement stores.

There's also a book light. Bounce your source off of that beadboard and then defuse it further with the shower curtain. Looks really nice.

Great advices. Question to you - do you utilize anything when you're shooting outside? Say for some of your travel videos or maybe a tutorial but shot out in nature? I find sun light elusive sometimes and I don't want to drag around a full reflector set up. Do you know if there is a smarter, more mobile solution?

Lighting definitely is the hardest thing i experienced in photography yet. Past weekend i was shooting in a studio for the first time and it was way too difficult to get some nice results when i tried using more than 1 light so i just kept it at 1 to learn to control it properly and then i will move on to more. This curtain thing definitely seems like a good way to solve budget issues :P

Great little insight into lighting Matti. I was wondering with your specific key light, what kind of ISO and aperture are you able to shoot with if you were using a DSLR for the in front of camera indoor shots? It's a great little light setup and I just noticed I can get the Aputure LED in the UK, which is cool beans.

the 120d is pretty powerful so you have a lot of freedom. A lot of the time I'm even using ND still

Go to home depot and get those fluorescent light diffusers. They are cheap and scatter light very well.

The shots where you show diffusion look very contrasty, I'm guessing that's a lut/grade? Makes the light look a bit harsh

Hey Matti! Awesome video again! For americans you can get something cheaper (i dunno if you can find it somewhere else). Go to the dollar store (I think I bought it on Dollar Tree) and there are $1 plastic tablecloths that are the same size as a shower curtain and similar material and works as good if not better. You can buy 10 of those of the price of a shower curtain! Highly recommend it!!!

I've bought the app and tested it a few times. Pretty fun to use actually. Not that stable on some objects but I guess that will be fixed in future updates. Either way. I'd rate it 7,5/10.

running it on an iPhone 7 plus. it runs pretty good though but not always easy to stick the texts to the spots you want. especially in bad lighting. But if you take your time to put the texts on the places you want in a decent - good lighting it's a pretty legit app. well worth it for the money actually.

Other than getting the ring lights reflection in your eyes, I also don't like the harsh lighting. Maybe for pictures though? You can get some cool images using a ring light.

Umm Mattt I think you just blew the sales of the Aperture lighting system in favor of the SHOWER CURTAIN. To me that was the BEST DIFFUSER OF ALL and I for one will go get me a whole bunch of curtains , a few LED light stacks for about $12 bucks each, some clamps, so stands and VOILA!!!! Thanks Matt. You just saved me a couple hundreds of dollars :)

I don't understand, the B board is basically a bounce light again..it's the same technique (one you don't like much) yet you showed it back to back...
