I think "more and more stuff" is the mantra of the 21st century. My house is full, and I don't like it.
@RisingApe
@RisingApe Год назад
Haha, that does seem to be the way of things, but this video proves (i hope) that while you don't have to go super basic, you don't need an entire room of stuff to hobby!

Well done! I feel like too many people try to buy their way through this hobby.

I am very guilty of that, but it’s at best a distraction and at worst a complete barrier to hobby.

If you don't have the budget for a wet pallete, make one. Click lock tub for 2 quid some of those yellow chamois sponges from the cleaning aisle, or even some paper towel, and some baking paper. Boom job done. I actually think the baking paper does a better job than the specific sheets I got with my 'proper' wet pallette. Biggest advantage to my purchased one is the click lock tubs tend to have high sides and that gets a little annoying.

In regard to Miky_R's comment, I am the polar opposite, I love stuff. I know the majority is surplus to requirements, but it's nice to have the tool for the job. A great man once sung " Imagine no possessions" and I can and I don't like it! A tad tongue in cheek there but I enjoy my collection. Now, having a thinned down hobby set ready for travel is another matter. Great video as ever James 👍 tyvm.

Like everything it’s a balance, if the stuff gets in the way of the fun, it’s a problem. If it adds it’s a win. Thanks mate

I definitely agree about how hobbying seems to get more and more complicated as we get into it. Seems like a part of it is wanting to try out other things. I know there's an absolutely massive difference in the amount of tools I have out when painting now compared to when I was first painting. I'll playfully say I got more done back then too >.>;; The worst though, has been my gunpla workbench where it didn't take long for a massive amount of tools to wind up taking up space. Some were fairly useful (like my nail file dust suction thingy, which is super handy when sanding in general, but especially when sanding resin), while others haven't seen as much use as I thought they would (dedicated files for resin use - I hate having to take them in and out of the bag I put them in to keep dust from getting about the place). We... Won't comment about the brush stashes though. That's probably the first thing I'll look at changing up on the desk, because sometimes it's a royal pain trying to find the specific brush you want to use...

Why the two whites?
@RisingApe
@RisingApe Год назад
Titanium white is very opaque and so adds that property when mixing and it’s wonderful for final highlights etc. zinc is much more transparent so I use it in glazes and even to glaze in highlights/ volumes which is difficult to do with titanium.

How long after priming should you wait till you can paint? I prime with a brush just as i prefer it
@RisingApe
@RisingApe 11 месяцев назад
You should wait until it’s fully dry, depending on the temp 10-30 mins should do it. Or speed it up with a hair dryer

Please, please, please don't talk about the x% of people who aren't subscribed. This is a pet peeve of mine among RU-vidrs that makes me want to quit watching. Just ask people nicely to subscribe if they like the content. Guilt trips and shaming aren't necessary. Because that's what the x% statements do. They're intended to inflict guilt and feelings of shame on those watching. Please stop this.
@RisingApe
@RisingApe 11 месяцев назад
Thanks for the feedback, it’s not intended as a guilt trip though, in modern RU-vid subscribers aren’t the most important metric but it does feel nice when folks do. It’s a little validation for me after spending several weeks making a video. Thanks for the comment it’s appreciated
@kscott2655
@kscott2655 11 месяцев назад
@RisingApe - I appreciate your willingness to consider. It may not be intended that way, but it comes across that way. So many RU-vidrs bring this up and every single time I cringe. As i said, it's a pet peeve of mine. It's so much better to ask nicely for people to consider subscribing if they aren't and thank existing subscribers, in my opinion. I only know that pulling out the "x% of you aren't subscribed" feels bad. If you are subscribed, you can't do anything to help. If you aren't, you're made to feel bad about it, even if it's the very first video you've ever watched from that creator. Like this was for me with you. RU-vid recommended this video to me and it's the first one of yours I've watched. Is it my fault I haven't subscribed yet? If the answer is no, please reconsider using this tactic.
