A couple things slow down my productivity. 1: Not knowing which sounds to use when I already have the musical idea. 2: Not knowing how to develop the song to make it longer, rather than using copy/paste. Thanks for the help!

9 hours in an IT job,,,,home by 5 in my man / wife cave until 9:30 pm....making tracks....Saturday and Sunday when not doing family time all day making music...it's a dog like passion with me and I have to keep my guitar chops up...my friends think I'm crazy.. but they secretly admire the stamina through out the years I've dedicated to my art.....being a musician can be a lonely road at times...making tracks for TV licensing is really a cool and awesome diversion for me it's a challenge..... you have to love doing what you do...Only you have the power to do what you want in life nobody can take the wheel of your life and drive the bus ....you have to take control...and accountability..for your creativity time...realize nobody is going to do it for you...not Jesse not your friends or anyone but the person in the mirror...learn to work with the time you have .....everyday I strive to have a small or big win these videos that Jesse makes....is a win win ...thanks Jesse....10 ...15 years ago guys like you weren't around.....

This is known as "time management". Thanks for taking the time to run it all down!

Jesse, would you consider doing a video about coming up with counter melodies and B sections?

Housekeeping tasks and interruptions are my number one obstacle to productivity working at home, either for my "bread earner" in-house job or my music. Family members that have trouble understanding that even if you're home, you're working and no, you can't go to buy groceries, or do the dishes or whatever even if it takes you 5 minutes. Also postmen, deliveries, etc, don't help much to keep focus on the work.

For me I work a full time job, have a family, play at my church occasionally, & I was playing in a cover band. So I really have to allocate my time for recording, watching videos to get better at recording & mixing to turn out quality stuff, it is a struggle. Good advice though Jesse on how to Departmentalize your day or what you are going to work on. I think that will really help you focus on what need to get done that day or get done those few hours you have set aside.

Oh man, last 10 years have been heavy studio time for me , 8-12 hours a day , good to know I can probably slow it down and do 1-2 hours a day and take a break, and yea I get hard headed and then I feel like I wasted the day

My FT job (paralegal, at a job I despise) drains me mentally...I crash for a few hours after work. It really hurts my creativity and productivity.

what really gets in my way is this dreadful 9-5 job!! Thanks for your content!!

I feel you - I had a 9-5 as well when I first got started in this business. It's hard, but you CAN carve out studio time even with a full-time job.

I would love a 9-5 .vs a 5am-? , No set schedule drives me insane but I'm constantly putting in time and my current Job has funded my entire Studio. Yes I hate my current Job but I'm also grateful for the Opportunities it has given me while it's supporting me Financially. My current position challenges me on a day to day basis, and because of that I've learned and experienced Growth in Perseverance and Focus. Yes I hate My Job and It fuels me to become a Full Time Songwriter/Composer/Producer..

My biggest issue with productivity is my job. I work more than 40 hours a week. The money is great but it leaves little to no time for me to create. I would rather sit in my studio and create "full time" instead of waking up at 5am to go to a job that I really don't wanna be at.

respect man ! I feel like I need to spend lot of time making a perfect mixdown for a loud enaugh master... if the track would be profesionally mastered by somebody else it would be allready saving time. And also .. day work job .. 36h/week

I tend to be the "work for 3 hours and delete it all" kinda guy sometimes. Other times, my issue is fully understanding EQ's and Limiters. I know there are many videos on it and you have done your own mixing and mastering videos. Except what everyone leaves out is what needs to be affected. For examples; my tack sounds too enclosed or its the bass elements are taking over or it has too many high frequencies. How can I understand what knob needs to be changed or some basic tricks to get my overall tracks sounding more full and without almost destroying the original sounds that inspire the track?
@boratezel
@boratezel 2 года назад
Sounds like you need to carve out space for each sound. You can cut the high frequencies that don't need to be there from the bass, cut low frequencies from vocals so they are less muddy and more present, things like that. You don't want sounds fighting for the same frequency band, that's where your sound gets muddy

When I'm trying a genre I'm not as familiar with, I'm not sure how to progress if my initial idea isn't coming together. In my native genre (folk or rock) I seem to be able to abandon bad ideas and change things up much more quickly. Whereas EDM can eat up 3 hours before I figure out I don't have a workable idea.

i have a problem finishing the track. I have about 30 tracks that are unfinished. about 15 that are completely finished. I also need to re structure myself to compose tracks for licensing instead of "beats".

I have a problem of starting lots of tracks, getting about 85% done and then never going back to finish them -_-

Problem solve every track. Make yourself finish them, even if they don’t feel “perfect”.

I get bored...I have a lot of what I think are really cool ideas, start fleshing them out, and then when it gets to really getting all o the parts sounding good...I start to fade. I have a hard time finishing. I also teach high school music 5 days a week, so I do have an issue with carving out time.
@SyncMyMusic
@SyncMyMusic 6 лет назад
Thanks for sharing - yes, not finishing tracks is a VERY COMMON issue most producers are facing.

i can understand how you feel Charlie.. i teach music in school too 3 days a week... so i have more time than you but when it comes to cranking out tracks i can do that too and its the blending of all parts that tales longer and sometimes i hit a wall with that too.. i think that comes with time as you create more you will get better at production... sometimes less is more... so try taking out stuff and see if that works..and i guess trying different sounds in your DAW to see if that helps with creating a different vibe... hope that helps:)
