A Sit Down with Michael Franzese and Bruce McNall | Former Kings and Mavericks owner, Movie Producer 

Mr. Franzese I was hit by a car while riding my motorcycle back in July. My left leg got really messed up and I'm just now learning how to walk again. It has been both mentally and physically taxing on me. What I really want to say is thank you for the content here. It helps keep my mind off the pain and predicament i find myself in. It is also gives me more drive to get better hearing about the harder times you have been through and how you rose above it. It may sound strange but I really appreciate what you share on here and cant wait every time you have a new video come out. I hope to see you speak live and maybe meet you one day. L'chaim.

Being in LA in the 80's I can attest that there was no force of nature that could compare to Bruce McNall. Crimes aside, he is really a remarkable and gifted man. The ultimate hustler. But a heart of gold too.

I love this interview because you can actually hear people telling stories without much interruption. Anyway, I'd love to have Michael's suit collection or clothing line. He always looks so crisp and clean in these sit downs

I can see by this interview, that he is truly a good friend of yours. It's good to see men discussing old times of things that were experiences and learning from those encounters. You seemed very relaxed and content on letting Bruce tell his story.

Michael shows himself not only as a phenomenal speaker but also a great listener. Still, I would've like to have heard a few more interjections from him, but sit-downs seem to be something a little different from podcasts.

I worked in the parking lot of the L.A. Forum during the late '80's early '90's - The Showtime era. Saw lots of stars. One evening (of a Kings game) I was working one of the VIP lots and John Candy pulled up in a gold 1950's Rolls Royce or Bentley. The VIP lots only had a limited number of spaces, the one opening was chained off and had a person posted there to take VIP parking passes (and bribes) to let them into the lot. So Candy rolls up 20 minutes after the game starts and says: "I have a meeting with Bruce McNall, can I park here?" He doesn't have a VIP pass, so I have to make the split second decision (because there's still cars coming in behind him) of whether to let him park there (if he's telling the truth), or not and probably lose my job. So I let him in. And that's my Bruce McNall/John Candy story.

Mr. McNall looks like a cigar in human form. All kidding aside, sounds like a nice guy and it was a very interesting interview.

What a life McNall lived. We all know about Michael's story and it's equally as fascinating but wow, owning Sports teams must have been crazy especially the Kings and bringing Gretzky there. Then going from that to Commissioner and then to spiral down to go to Federal Prison. That is truly top to bottom. Mobsters usually have that career arc but for a guy like McNall to have that happen is crazy. Great story and great guest Michael!

I know nothing about hockey but I loved listening to Bruce talk he seems like such a nice guy really enjoyed his stories. Michael, this interview was fantastic! Can't wait for the others.

I remember the Wayne Gretzky trade. It did help expand the sport. San Jose got the Sharks in ‘92 or ‘93, that was big news back then.

Hey Michael, my grandpa was born and raised in NJ in the heyday of the mob in the 20s and 30s and my dad remembers a time very vividly when he and grandpa went out to eat somewhere and grandpa was doing some "business" with someone and the guy who my dad called "uncle Frank" pulled out a thick wad of bills and gave my dad a $10. My dad was only 9-10 at the time and he was so excited cause he used to go down the street to Wright's drug store to get penny candy and Marvel comics. That's my family's mob story. Hope you enjoyed it.

This really is one of the most fascinating channels on RU-vid. I wasn't familiar with Bruce McNall but looked him up after this video and now I kinda want him to get a movie made about him.

Hey Michael, Can I add some constructive criticism? - I like the conversational style of the interviews but I think you should give them more structure. It would be great if you had a good set of questions to be answered that would help enlighten the viewers with knowledge they could use and apply to their own lives. Ex: 1. Hey Bruce, why did Edmonton Oilers want to give away the greatest hockey player in the NHL to you at the time? 2. What did you learn as a business owner in the NHL? or as a business owner in the sports business? What are the top 3 things? 3. Did your likability as an individual help you get favorable treatment in negotiations? 4. What did prison teach you Bruce, if anything? 5. Are there any regrets you have in life? If so, what would you have changed? 6. What do you consider the most important thing in life that is worth striving for / dying for? I am assuming the answer is family but it is a good question nonetheless. 7. How did you find yourself in so much trouble to land in prison Bruce? 8. It would be great if you could get Peter Pocklington (Oilers owner who dealt Gretzky) and Bruce McNall together to talk about the Gretzky trade / NHL. Pocklington lives in Palm Desert now. 9. What celebrities/players did you deal with that were unsavory characters to deal with and why? Who was great to deal with? 10. I think Bruce started with rare coins. It would be interesting to learn how he got started in that. How did you go from collecting rare coins to owning the Los Angeles Kings? 11. I know I had players betting on sports in my time in the mob but Bruce did you ever personally know or through other people of players betting on NHL games / influencing the outcomes of spreads? 12. If you have one thing you want to be written on your epitaph, what would it be?

Loving these sit downs. I met mr. McNall, Mr. Gretzky & Mr. John Candy years ago at Wayne Gretzky's restaurant when it opened, right before the federal government started hammering Me. McNall. A true gentleman, bought the whole bar a round of drinks (I was underage with my dad so I had a Coke lol) & posed for pictures with anyone who asked. I spent time as a street kid later, and these two men's stories are part of the reason I got off the street & bettered myself. Mr. Franzese, in my mind, is one of the most genuine human beings I've ever seen. One of my bucket list items is to meet both of them (Mr. McNall again) after Covid is over. It's be an honour to meet two men who paid their dues, did their time, & are living lives now that are the model of how people can change. My hats off to both of you gentlemen, all the very best in health and safety for you and your friends and family from Toronto Ontario Canada :) cheers :)
