Hello - just popped up. I must say that was an excellent representation of the sailing year. All the charts and drawings made it all clear. You recently asked for feedback regarding the channel, it may not surprise you, but I enjoy the offshore adventures just as much as the sailing episodes. Too much of either loses the personality of your channel. To be honest - there are hundreds of sailing channels now - and hardcore sailors have plenty of video of sailing and bikini's. I like that you two are keeping it real and how the channel revolves around your personalities and your marriage, mixed in with sailing and off shore activity. A highlight of the channel is when you two share the screen and chat about the goings on. You may not achieve the huge subscriber numbers of a lot of channels, but the best thing is the personal touch you provide. I personally enjoy each episode and stay up late Friday nights on the US west coast to "like" "subscribe" and "view." Enjoyed the recap very much. See you next week, and looking for some on the hard repairs. Those are fun too.
Hi ginaza, that was an end of season recap, so all of the places we visited to make the recap are all stand alone videos in their own right. Click back to earlier videos and we'll show you in depth videos of the various islands. Cheers.
"The plans of sailors are written in sand at low tide." - brilliant! I'm sure this video took a very long time to put together. It was very well done. Thank you.
Well orchestrated summary of a season afloat with good story telling. We are going to use this video for waypoints👍 And may even take a liberty by trying to do something along the same lines. It is only when you slow down that you realise how far you have come and what you have done in the last year! Cannot believe some muppet has given a thumbs down 😕We may have the same muppet. Maybe a grumpy taverna owner 🤣 Sail safe guys. We are heading your way let's have a beer or 6 when we catch up. Check out Carl and Jenny's next video for an update on our plans, they are near you we think? Maybe not. Ant, Cid & the Pooch crew.
This is a great video, perfect if you are looking for what to expect if you cruise this area. Excellent cometary. We linked to it a number if times on our website.
That was great to see how your 2019 adventures panned out and looking forward to see what 2020 has in store, hopefully you can blow the dust off the scuba gear and get in some scuba adventures as well.
Hi, I do believe to have said so on an earlier video, (last year may bee?), these videos are very nice and informative. In the western Med, heading east next year. Might see you passing on opposite tack next summer...
Ive been watching a few channels now to see what everyone is doing a d find a good fit and have deceided to join your patreon and give you a little extra help. seeing my husband deceided he couldn't live on a yatch after our 2 1/2 weeks on Vamonos II this year in Cyprus and Turkey I have to live the dream through you guys so no better way to do it I suppose. Will do ASAP when work gives me a break and I work out how to do it xxx
Hi Lyndee, it's always a difficult situation when one partner decides that living on a yacht is not for them. Thank you for becoming a patron. If you have any questions just let us know. Cheers, Baz & Aannsha.
Enjoyed your years recap thanks guys. You mentioned going West this year, will you also be doing Ionian, Corfu, Croatia as well? Looking forward to watching. Re Dream On, it arrived from US but haven't got my nose into it. . . . 👍
Hi Will, the current plan is to go through the Ionian up to Corfu and cross over to Italy from there. Croatia is not in the plan, too expensive. Let us know your thoughts on the book. Cheers. 😀
Very interesting year in review, loved the map route to follow along. Can you share how sailors can stay longer in the Schengen countries? I thought it was 3 months max. and then exit for 3 months. Especially now as you begin to move through more countries, can you do a series on how each country handles their entries/visas/red-tape? I get that it's dependent on each person's passport, but it would be helpful to see your process.
Hi Perri, as a UK flagged vessel and currently traveling on our UK passports the Schengen rule does not apply to us. After Brexit happens and the 12 month transition period ends we are then subject to Schengen rules. And you are correct, 3 months in a Schengen country and then 3 months out. But with only a handful of available none Schengen countries in the Med it makes life difficult. That's why we've decided to leave the Med around November 2020. Some Schengen countries will allow you to apply for temp residency, but there's generally a lot of red tape and jumping through hoops. That's not what we signed up for, so it's easier to just leave the Med, which is a shame because we will miss out on many of the places we planned to visit. That's an interesting idea about a series of videos on each countries red tape. We'll certainly have a good think about that idea. Thanks.
That was some summer season. Pity you couldn't call in to symi it a really pretty town - island ,but that is greece , and you were in turkey at the time, now - crack on and get that work done!!!😊😊😊
Hey Richard, we checked out of Greece at Symi in October 2018, nice place, we loved the small bay with the monastery. Anyway, back to work we go. Cheers.
@@SailingABSea in 1980 symi was not a place you could check out of, that had to be done at Rhodes or Kos,. Great videos, check out dan and kikas latest video, sailing Uma , in Lanzarote, done on 2 smart phones. Its staggering the quality they got with what they had . Ps on one drunken night in 1980 i drifted off the low quay in to the harbour on the way back to the boat . Having boogied all night at the disco!!!!🤔🤔😎🤣😂
We were just looking at some footage Aannsha took on her phone and we quite impressed with the visual and audio quality. The 80's... a good decade for booze and boogie. 😀👍🍺
Hi guys great video and overview. Many thx for that and all the great videos over the last months...we really enjoyed travelling with you! Ps: Please share what Anchor brand and weight you use. I have the 45.2 Jeanneau with a Rocna 25kg so just want to compare. Greetings Marius
Hi Marius, thanks for following our journey. We have a 39kg (85lbs) Mantus anchor. It's a big anchor, but when it goes in, it stays in and we sleep well at night.
1 year in 15 minutes ♥️ In Norway we says that you can write it in the snow. Brexit’s big dates for the coming year, 31.January 30. June and 31. December I DO understand the feeling. Really hope it turns out the best way possible. Fair winds ,,,/),,,,
Hi, Enjoyed your video. I'm looking for a boatyard to haul out. What was your experience like at the Evia Boatyard in Limni? Do they have good carpenters, mechanics etc?
Hi John, Limini yard is great for winter storage and is well protected from most of the weather. There are local trades people who can do the jobs and Xaris will contact them for you, they are not boat specialists. The logistics of getting parts delivered is a challenge and there is no local/affordable car hire. The cost to stay at the yard reflects its location.
Hi Russtafa, we need to hire a car to go to a big town with a large hardware store to buy materials. The damp area has dried up but we're going to sand everything back and repair and repaint the whole area. We'll be inspecting the keel bolts too.
In this week's blogs we give a brief outline of our 2020 plans. Here's the link to my blog. bit.ly/38cyozc We will include a segment about our 2020 plans in an upcoming video and we'll go into detail about why and where we plan to sail. Cheers.
Hi Mario, an extra or bigger fuel tank just means longer times between visiting a fuel dock. Crossing the Atlantic on a sail boat of our size using just the engine is not possible given the amount of miles involved. Luckily the trade winds blow fairly constantly so sailing all the way shouldn't be an issue. If the wind stops for a day or two, then we just drift with the current and wait for the winds to return. Cheers.
