Thanks for dropping by, we're Aannsha & Barry the 'wet grey nomads'.
We live full time on board our 1995 Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 45.1 and we have a long term plan to eventually sail her back to Australia. This channel is a mix of sailing, exploring and the telling of a story of how two townies became salty sea dogs.
The aim here is to document the journey of two mid fifty year olds, who had never set foot on a yacht before taking sailing lessons in Gibraltar in February 2018, buying a yacht is Spain and getting sailing experience in the Med before heading across the Atlantic.
Along the way we'll share our experiences of the various countries we visit and our complete sailing journey. This is more about the journey than the destination and it doesn't matter how long it takes us to get there. We hope you can come along too.

Its normally a fake scam posting of that said hotel via a third party website like expedia or airbnb which is how you get scammed. If you went to the official website or walked up in person on that hotel then your transacting directly to the hotel and not a third party fake hotel booking. The scammers will copy and paste the photo of the hotel they want to scam and create a fake posting on airbnb or expedia, its a very common scam. You must check the reviews. But in your case, i guess that hotel is a legit fully fledged physical scam. Whats great about expedia and airbnb, is they will honor your refund as long as you can show proof, and they will not pay the scammers.
Dear Ansha and Baz We started watching you from the beginning and your movies gave us lots of pointers as husband and wife traveling the Turkish coast and Aegean after we bought our bigger boat in 2020. We were sorry to watch your health issues and happy that you are fine now. I would like to say that you have many “dost” in Turkey and you are always welcome to come stay at our guest house in Marmaris if the winds blow you in this direction or you miss this part of the world. You are a great couple and lovely knowledgeable seafarers. We learned many of the “A”, “B” “Sea” of cruising as husband and wife from your shared experiences 💙💙 All the best, Levent and Sarah
This was very helpful. I did not really understand the furlex manual. This was a very clear video and it made it easy (but nerve-racking) to change the line. Thank you!
Well how did you get the new bearing installed did freezing it work. That was about 6 minutes of my life I won't get back. How would I rate this,................crap.
an idea, how about plain slab reefing?, aka just dump the halyard, if the foil won't turn, it's the surest way to pack up the sail.(you have to anyway, to unload the bearings, lines, etc. to re-reeve the rig to repair any jams).
Glad to hear you"re recovering. I had all the same experience when I got C.V.D. Tt took at least 6 months to fully recover. So don't worry it will pass. Best wishes.
Use a strut-pro. That slide hammer he used is the single best way to destroy your P-bracket. Stop using the wrong tools for the job simply because it's cheaper.
Thanks for sharing your adventures ,it been a pleasure to follow you guys throughout your journey……god bless you both…..super hugs from where your adventures began…….Gibraltar!
A lot of things on Istanbul are a scam, more so then some other major cities. Be vigilant, but also, don't let it be a reason not to go if you have a good reason or it's in your list. Definitely research the scams and know that if you get caught up pursuing a few extra dollars for a cab ride or shoe shine you didn't want. It's the price of doing business or in this case traveling to w place like this, but don't let it ruin your trip. The majority of scams can be avoided if you have half a brain. The hotel scams and night club scams can be some of the most costly. Give yourself enough time and know what to be aware of, finally, enjoy Istanbul.
Another great Video. The great thing about your videos were they were from the heart, you said it the way it was. May I wish you every success in the future.
We’ve been wondering how you two have been doing. Your videos made me comfortable with our decision to embrace our own adventure. It seems ironic we are here now and you there. Your frank and honest portrayal of this life has been very helpful and as you close the hatch on ABSea it dawned on me that will be another moment we all will have to experience. However next season is Turkey and we will be revisiting your videos as you guide us through. Thank you so much and all the best for your future.
Wow! It was awesome to see your latest video online! Meeting you guys was one of the highlights of our Turkey trip, and since March of this year we are the proud owner of a Moody 41😎
Thank you for sharing your journey with us. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed watching and being part of your adventure. It’s your story and similar others that have assisted us in making our decisions to move onto our new yacht next year. The tips and hints you have provided over the years truly invaluable for future sailors. And if you fancy a sail in the med in coming years, we will always welcome crew on board. 🙏🏻 quick question though. I noticed in this video you talked about two passports. We are the same British and Australian. Are you able to use both for Schengen? So double the time between zones? Not sure if you have had any exposure to that situation. TIA. Stay safe enjoy family and enjoy your next adventure Mark & Leigh
I am so sorry about the ending. We become a family. I am so happy that you've finally be with your son. We'll miss you so badly. I wish you a good health and happy next chapter of your life. Love you both!
