Apologies for all the wind noise and terrible editing! And all the incorrect information... Watch at your own risk of boredom and possible loss of sanity.
The Slightly Shambolic Shuffles are back! This time we are at the 2021 Ringwood Raceway All Granada Meeting for Mark I and Mark II Ford Granadas only, where they handily had a Concours D'Elegance of road going tasty Mark I and Mark II Granadas to admire before the banger racing started. Be prepared for South African specifications, limousines, hearses and a full Connolly leather interior on a very rare 1984 Ford Granada Ghia X Executive, which I now want very much... Nothing untoward, then!

Those ghia coupe’s, wow I’d not be able to leave them alone, I’d get plenty of photos. In school in my work experience I chose to work in a vehicle body repair garage, the first car I came across was a ghia coupe in metallic blue, gorgeous car and I was fascinated. Definitely don’t make cars that stand out these days, I hope you had a great day out, thanks for sharing.

No problem at all, Richard! The next video is up on the channel now, and it was a bit different from this one.... Those Mark I Granada Coupés are absolutely beautiful, aren't they? We did indeed have a great day yesterday.

You've just got to love a old Granada. If I recall correctly as well as the base 2.0 Pinto seen here you could also have a Granada with a 2.3 'Cologne' V6 - an engine that was also employed in the Mk4 Cortina where it was often criticized as being more expensive, no faster and less economical that a 2.0 Pinto. But having spent many thousands of miles driving various Pinto powered Fords I can confirm they were horribly corse old buzz boxs and a nice smooth vee six would have been a distinct improvement I think. It would seem that just as with the contemporary Rover SD1, many of which came with now forgotten straight six 2.3 and 2.6 engines (you could I think even get a Jaguar XJ with a 2.8 six) the cheaper versions are now less common compared to the top of the range stuff. That gold Granada Coupe is utterly gorgeous by the way!

@lloydvehicleconsulting 3 года назад
Oh sir, we do like a nice Mark I Granada Coupé, don't we? The 2.0 Pinto didn't look like it was much less powerful than the 2.3 V6 on paper, but as you say, it was much smoother and nicer sounding. If you want to hear about the different types of Cologne V6 engines, Mr Coleman would be your man! We do like a nice SD1, and you are right about those 2.3 and 2.6 Triumph designed engines, they are not very common any more at all.

Thank you ever so much indeed for watching! Yes, I had the privilege of driving the 1982 silver Ghia X Estate you would have seen in the video for the first time in 2019. Absolutely lovely. They are very rare now, it was wonderful seeing them all in the same place like this!

Designed and built to be the best. Both Mk1 and Mk2 designs are iconic. Didn't suffer so much from badge snobbery as the lovely big Senators with the Vauxhall badge because the Granada name already had cachet. Mr Coleman, Mr Bill and yourself seemed to be in your elements.

I do like seeing Granadas. My parents owned a diamond White 1976 Granada 2000 L with 4 speed manual in the early to mid 1980s. It had a few options that made it look like a GL like a vinyl roof, fog lights and chrome wheel rims.

Yes, there is a 1978 Ford Granada in the second episode of The Greatest American Hero called "The Hit Car" driven by Robert Culp. I think the only things in common between the two Granadas are the door handles, I think....

The gold coupe and early red saloon were rare treats The very early mk1s were also badged as Consul i believe
@mattw8332
@mattw8332 3 года назад
Ford reintroduced the Consul name because they were apprehensive about use of the Granada name as it was used by a TV station and probably had to stop using it.

@@mattw8332 yes I'd heard about the conflict with Granada TV already using the name
@lloydvehicleconsulting

The Consuls were generally a lower end Granada, but the 3000 GT used in The Sweeney has given the Consul name a bit of a kudos that it may not have otherwise had. The problems with Granada Television were sorted by the Mark I facelift in 1975, and so the Consul name was dropped.

Always prefered the Consul/Zephyr versions thought the Granada/Zodiacs had too much bling and drank too much petrol. I had three, a cheap Consul V4 auto which was an ex taxi been around the 5 digit clock, cheap because the C4 auto had gone but once replaced I found it a delightful drive for a few years. Then had a Granada pinto, a bit wheezy but on a lads' night out, drove it for about 30 miles with a failing water pump (it was like a scene from Duel with a rowdy audience) it was struggling in the end, thought the engine was toast.. next morning it started up as if nothing had happened H Gasket was fine. Finally had a 2.3, nice and smooth but needed a 5th gear as power was not up to its capacity.
@lloydvehicleconsulting
@lloydvehicleconsulting 3 года назад
We do like the Granadas and Consuls, sir! The Sweeney Consul GT was a rather nice model, but the majority of the Consuls were a lot cheaper than the Granadas. The Pintos and Colognes are amongst Mr Coleman's favourite engines, as you can imagine. What year was your 2.3 Granada, sir? The 2.8 Cologne is not a very economical engine...
@Witheredgoogie
@Witheredgoogie 3 года назад
@@lloydvehicleconsulting I recall it was a T reg, 2.3 silver with blue cloth interior Sir, it was L spec I think. So it only had a 4 spd box . From memory, the sunroof was very wind noisy when open (perhaps Mr Coleman can confirm) I wished it had a 5 spd box as it all got a bit revvy and busy at motorway speeds when as a 6 cylinder it really should have been superior to the V4 and Pinto. But the Cologne V6 had a disadvantage over the Essex V6.it only had 4 exhaust ports, the Essex had 6, so perhaps it didn't matter much on the 2.8 but on the lower capacity 2.3 /2.0 V6 maybe it did matter? I replaced the rubbish carb that Ford use to put on their poverty spec cars with a Weber, which actually improved MPG somewhat.
@lloydvehicleconsulting
@lloydvehicleconsulting 3 года назад
@@Witheredgoogie , yes, I think they made a 2.3 L (and a 2.8 L for that matter). A lot of Mark II Granadas with sunroofs had aftermarket wind deflectors fitted for the reason that you mention. Both four and five speeds were offered, Mr Coleman's is a five speed. He also talked about the exhaust ports you mentioned, although I didn't quite understand fully what he was talking about at the time. You are right that the standard Pierburg carburettors were terrible, most people threw them away and fitted a Weber immediately.

My friend's dad had a brown MK2 Granny 2.8 Ghia in the mid 90s. He bought it to pull a larger caravan as him Montego.must not have been upto the job. Also had a Rover 820 at one point too. Anywhere the car was involved in a collision and written off sadly but I recall it was a very lazy car.

I love doing spot the Ford Consul. They are rare now..That orange car at the beginning of the clip has the wrong grill ... it is either a Granada GXL as badged up on the tailgate or a Consul with the wrong badge... The other thing that bugs me is the dashboard binnacle from 1976 onwards being inferior to the round dials they had ..the base model consuls had basic dashboard binnacles ....often the more basic mark 1 the Granada is the more curious I get..as these were once more common and a real reflection of what was on the road..same goes for all the base models of Fords from 1969 to 1977...... more than happy to see any Granada but thats just my preference
@lloydvehicleconsulting
@lloydvehicleconsulting 2 месяца назад
Yes, the Consuls were not made for long. As you say, the orange car probably has the wrong grille on it. It has been three years since I recorded this, so I don't remember exactly what was there (without watching it again to refresh my memory), but any of the Consuls are much rarer than the Granadas. I finally drove a Mark I Granada for myself last year.

Your a lucky guy..hope I get to try one..been in many Granadas,, cortinas,,1st gen Escort, capri,fiesta, driven a 2.8 87 E reg capri..that went like a rocket.. Granada/consuls are just so great, they were comfortable on long journeys to the seasides like Broadstairs and Margate in the 70s..yes you could get 5 adults and 2 little kids piled in ..no seat belts... safety is important but the 70s was great and less red tape with the law..
