me and my wife moved into a house with boundary alarm already fitted by previous owners and my wife found it a headache to use and it randomly went off while not set at different times of the night as a alarm engineer myself i thought i could figure the issue and being usual smart security product it left me scratching my head trying to figure it out and the external sounder was peaked at 89db ,so i swapped out the alarm and replaced it with a hard wired alarm system with a 110db siren , but great video and great to see your opinion of the system

So what happens when Boundary goes offline? Closes shop and switches off their servers? If I understood your video the system need constant connectivity to them in order to work.

Functionally as an alarm system everything would all work, but the additional services (push notifications, geolocation reminders, alexa, ifttt, google etc would all be gone). I believe Homekit control is currently being worked on so it will be interesting to see what redundancy that brings. Connectivity is Deffinetly one to think about especially this week as we saw Insteon go dark!

great video i see several of these videos for boundary going up on youtube. They must be sending out a lot of kits to youtubers. I have setup my own DIY alarm system using HA. Between my motion sensor (these are pet friendly as well) and my door and window sensors and it auto arms and disarms, i'm happy with it. Cost me $0 a month and its all local and fast. Not the best system you could put together by a long shot. But then this isn't fort knox either 😁 Oh and being DIY the thiefs don't know how the system works unlike a company's system they can look up and figure out even before they try to break in.

You can't go wrong with local and $0 a month :) What motion sensors are you using? There's deffo a lot of them being sent out. I did however test it out for a month. In a future video I will be working on a diy HA alarm setup :D

@@MarkWattTech Yea when i setup my HA instance i got the GoControl/Nortek zigbee/z-wave stick. I switched from smartthings to HA so had a lot of both zigbee and z-wave sensors and this one stick has both radio's in it

Hey mate, are you going to address the fact that this company has now gone into liquidation and the alarm system including its smart functionality no longer works? Your paid promotion is selling people a dead on arrival product.

YMMV but I don't think wireless is a good idea, especially in mission-critical systems like alarm systems. I'm just not comfortable with all the issues, and that doesn't even include the fact that wireless devices run on batteries.

I'm also still unsure about wireless. I think there will always be that doubt of what if it doesn't work :S The cellular connectivity helps with that worry but I think in terms of simplicity and ease of install the battery approach is best. It would be nice if the outdoor siren offered a hardwire connection as that may be a pain climbing up ladders to change the batterys every year!

If you have issues with wireless alarm systems and wireless protocols then you simply don't know what you are doing. Battery operated devices are excellent, you treat it like you would a car,,,check the oil once in a while. Same applies to wireless alarms,,,check the batteries once in a while. Further more they notify you when the batteries are low

@@angelln25 if you don't even know all the issues with wireless and battery-powered devices, then you REALLY need to educate yourself. jjust one example: disposable batteries are BY FAR the most expensive form of electricity you can buy, bar none.
