In this video, we take a look into Boundary's Wireless Security System for our Smart Home. Having a security system is something all of us need and most of us would love to have and yet, it hasn't always been easy to install or readily accessible - usually we would have to get a professional in to rip half our house up to install the wires which is just a hassle in itself. Not with Boundary though: their security systems are wireless and encrypted with Z-Wave! You can choose to get a professional in to install their systems or you can do it yourself and that's the option we chose today. We show you how easy it is to install, their app and all their amazing features!

Nice to see a full package that anyone could buy but it felt like there was very little in the way of negatives or limitations of this system covered and there was no real consideration or reference to alternatives. I guess it's the nature of sponsored videos but it was noticeably different to some of your more regular content because of that. I would love to see what could be done with home assistant in a DIY setup because if you already have various sensors for automations in the home do you really need to install dedicated ones for an alarm as well? That seems to go against the strengths of a smart home. As a stand alone system though I can see the merits of this package.

This wasn't a review, that's why 😅 I never said anywhere it was a review :) I hear what your saying - this was just taking a look at a system that's incredibly easy to install and the process of actually going through and installing in a property, as opposed to sitting in front of the camera talking about it

@@EverythingSmartHome I can appreciate that, I guess I'm just used to your normal videos being a bit more objective and this sponsored showcase just came across as a bit out of character for me as a consequence. I did like the more 'on location' (struggling in how else to word it) style you used in this video though, that was nicely done :)

Sure I appreciate the feedback. I think this was a nice way to look at the system and show it in actual use - that's just me though. It's just a different style of content and it's nice to switch things up a bit from always being in the same location!

Nice looking system but appears to be in EU/UK only. I live in the states and went with an ELK system. Two-way wireless encrypted sensors, great HA integration and its locally connect to HA. Pulls in all the sensors so they serve double duty for automations. And for safety sake, the controller is mounted big steel box in a closet out of the way. A criminal isn't ripping this off the wall and smashing. Took some reading of the manuals to figure everything out but saved a bundle installing myself. But this looks like a simple and effective system non the less.

2 comments: 1. *NEVER* use the stickers telling what kind of alarm you have installed. If there is a known exploit for that system, you are telling the bad guys how to get in. Telling them you have a different brand of alarm, though, is OK. 2. Speaking of exploits, it's good to see that you can't jam the system with a $10 device from eBay (looking at you, SimpliSafe).

Just for your information I have ordered a kit using your code. Thanks. There was a glitch on the transaction which went through multiple times but the bank have sorted it out. One question. Can I zone it, for example set downstairs pirs and doors armed while disarming upstairs when we go to bed.

Hi Alan, sorry to hear about your issues with the website but glad you got it sorted. To answer your other question, yes, you can create partial arm and night set modes that will only arm your desired sensors whilst you go about your normal routine. For example, arming all the door sensors but not the PIR sensors. Hope that helps. Thanks, Tom.

Quick glance: The system malfunctioned on day one of installation with multiple parts contributing to its failure, coupled with software glitches it's a nightmare to install and in my view from experience, not reliable enough to secure your home and your loved ones. Until the glitches are ironed out and hardware quality is reassessed, I'd give this company a miss for now until they've matured. Great potential, but you'll be paying monthly to pretty much be their product testers, Boundary should have delayed bringing this to market. A smart alarm that gets confused. A wireless system that drops its wireless signal. A support team, that is hard to access when things go wrong. For and against For: Nicely presented product design of sensors, keypad hub, contact sensors, key fobs and an outdoor siren that all look slick. Monthly subscription plans are exciting when compared to others . Against: - really poor customer service access. No phone number, no after hours or weekend contact response. Be prepared to write emails back and forth...what year are we in again? - room sensors have poor quality tamper systems that need to be cleared again and again with a lot of fiddling. Be prepared to go up and down ladders. The app will show they're fine, yet the hub will disagree. - room sensors have very inaccurate temperature readings, a great feature but they're out by up to 3°c rendering them pointless. - contact sensors and room sensors can (and do) go offline, you are warned when this happens, Boundary support (a person called Leslie) just suggests that you keep an eye on it... That could be your front door sensor offline! - outdoor siren lacks a quality build, mine registered tampered, which I needed to fiddle with multiple times to clear. The alarm bell went off, it is supposed to cut out in 15mins, but it didn't stop. I had to climb up and break it open. It actually disconnects from the system as the batteries use up too much power, not good when you're testing it out. - outdoor siren lid has holding screws that screw into weak plastic thread which die during installation, which means not being able to open the siren in case of manual intervention, due to hardware failure, which happened to me on day one. Be prepared to console your kids as it likely will greatly upset them. - the hub control unit has a limited cable run, most will find this too short if wishing to install it on the wall which is the most desired location. - the hub's table stand in my opinion should be included but instead the company decided to charge for it. - sensor pairing during installation is hit and miss, 3 out of eight had issues. Even if the system shows they're all paired, you're best to contact support (good luck after normal budnesd hrs or weekends) to confirm all are actually 100% paired, they don't tell you this step) or you risk your system malfunctioning in all sort of ways . - 3m double-sided tape provided with sensors are hit and miss, some won't hold and risk damaging your sensors if they fail to hold. - the app and the hub can give you conflicting readings which are really confusing. - do NOT use screws to install any of your sensors, as should you want to return for a full refund, you'll have to fill these holes and paint (if you have that colour) to make good. Boundary's support team (Leslie) will suggest you make a trip to B&Q or similar, negating the effort, time and money you've lost and are about to lose more of. An apologetic reply on 3rd May 2022 from the CEO (Robin Knox) who I reached out to, suggested they know about issues "some of this is out with our control and caused by a third party protocol that we are awaiting an update for. Other improvements are in the design & engineering process. It seems like you had several issues in combination, creating a frustrating experience so again I must apologise." Yet none of this is mentioned to you as a consumer when buying into this platform, which you pay a recurring subscription to. He was happy to refund fully (takes 14 days) to" part ways amicably".... That's at least something, though I now need to fill holes and rematch paint to my external and internal walls plus doors. Live and learn.

Really the main downside I can see if that come a years time, your going to need to change a lot of batteries. Though the ease of install being wireless is obviously a low barrier to entry. But could get annoying needing to get the ladder out to replace the battery for the outside alarm!

I would seriously consider this system if it wasn't that a subscription is required to connect sensors that you have already paid for! The vast majority of homes will need more than 2 sensors. Subscription for app/ out of home support and features which cost the company to maintain is completely ok, but needing to pay monthly to use the sensors you already paid £500 doesn't sit well with me.

I know you never specifically labeled this video as such, but: - to a lesser extent because of your usual videos being much more inquisitive and review-like, and - because of this video being structured very much like one of your normal videos, minus the actual review part, and - more importantly because you do not specify, nor explicitly label this video a being different from your usual style of video, there are many viewers (just read a few of the comments), including me at first, that are watching this video under the impression that-, and with the expectation of-, this video being just like one of your regular review type videos. They have grown to trust you, and your review judgements, over your many prior reviews, so they unconsciously assume to be watching another one of your reviews, automatically turn off their 'critical scrutiny thinking mode', also called 'bs detector mode' by me, assume you're speaking from your own experience and are simply sharing your opinions on this security system, and thus they take everything you say in this video at face value. That is why it is really important for us viewers to know exactly when a video is a normal review, a sponsored review, or an advertisement (like this video). We need to know if you received compensation for making the video, so we can properly judge if your (perceived) 'opinions' presented in a video are impartial or not (so, basically if we can safely turn off our unconscious 'bs detectors' if we trust the uploader). Perhaps I am wrong and I have missed them, but to me it really feels as if this video is purposefully *not* mentioning any of the possible downsides, shortcomings and/or disadvantages of this security solution. *This video also seems to suffer from a distinctive lack of any and all impartial evaluation of the product, any (even slightly) critical evaluation of its functions and merits and/or any scrutiny of the security functions of the product whatsoever! This video is just one big summary, one humongous concatenation of this products features, functions, methods of use and ease of installation, without any critical discourse or product evaluation at all!* To elaborate: With great concentration I have watched and rewatched the video, and I haven't found a single occurrence where he mentions anything bad or negative about this security system, so (to me at least) this video feels as if it's essentially one large advertisement for Boundary and their system, so I am curious why this video isn't it marked as sponsored? For example, adding the text '#AD' to the lower right corner of the thumbnail (or any other corner for that matter), appending '#AD' to the end of the video title or putting it in front the title, or maybe even adding the text "This sponsored video is a paid advertisement for the Boundary Security System" to the very top of the video description would be greatly appreciated! Additionally, it is very important to know for us if you were paid to simply present a product in a video, without reviewing it (just like this video), or if you were allowed to formulate and voice your own opinion on the product and/or service(s) without the sponsor being allowed to pre-approve of the contents of the video review. And right now I suspect it is the first, but you do not specify, so it is really hard for us to know, additionally this also makes it very difficult for anyone to differentiate this video from your other (actual?) reviews. You may not be aware of this, but if this really is a sponsored video review/advertisement, meaning if you received *any* compensation at all for making this video, no matter in which form, then this is a sponsored video, so then you must label this video as containing sponsored content in the video settings/properties. Anything, _literally anything_ to allow viewers to identify this video is an advertisement instead of a review, and to make it abundantly clear to us that you received compensation from the sponsor (Boundary in this case) for making this video, and that this video content was paid for by Boundary either with money (or some equivalent), with free product(s) you were allowed to keep after making the video, and/or with services provided to you free of charge. The specifics of how you were compensated do not matter that much, just that you were compensated. Just thought I'd let you know 😇 By the way, here is the RU-vid guidelines page with the rules for sponsored content corroborating the regulations I outlined above: support.google.com/youtube/answer/154235?hl=en

This was a very long comment for no reason - I literally said in the intro boundary sponsored the video, then text flashes on screen to say it's sponsored, and there is thing in the top left of the video provided by RU-vid when the video first starts to say that it's sponsored. Because the video is marked as sponsored in the video settings. You watched and re-watched multiple times yet failed to notice 3 very very obvious indicators saying it was sponsored?
@ee7043
@ee7043 2 года назад
The fact you managed to “count” 252 positive aspects and yet failed to notice the sponsorship banner at the start of the video, him stating it’s sponsored, RU-vid putting their own “paid promotion” in the top left corner AND it is in the description just implies you are looking to nit pick and comment negatively (with false points). Also, the only other time you’ve commented on this channel is just to imply he was on drugs or sedative medication🙄which, again, wrong and even if it was true, writing a comment making fun of someone who could possibly rely on medication for whatever reason IS NOT OKAY. You get trolls everywhere but why you feel the need to spend SO much time writing negative comments will always baffle me. several red flags goin' up: - wireless. i would not go wireless, especially not in a security system. too many issues. - battery powered. those batteries have a tendency to go flat just when you need them. besides, batteries are by far the most expensive form of electricity. many orders of magnitude more expensive than grid power. - monthly subscription. - requires internet connection.

Just because you wouldn't go wireless, doesn't mean others won't. It's not possible for everyone to run wires depending on their living situation. See point 1 Monthly subscription isn't required, there is a free version, but some features do require a fee because they cost boundary money to implement and maintain too (someone has to pay for the automated calling, monitoring service, servers for notifications and remote access) Doesn't require an internet connection, if you have no internet then it will work locally with your phone. Obviously if you go out of your house then you won't be able to access it remotely without internet but if you know of a system that can notify you remotely without internet communication then please let me know, I'd love to see that :)

@@EverythingSmartHome On the website they state "for systems with more than 2 sensors you will require a subscription to use your Boundary alarm system" An alarm system with 2 sensors is only suitable to alarm a garden shed. I understand not providing costly services like monitoring to "free" users even if they did just spend hundreds of pounds but to limit the bare functionality of the system to 2 sensors without paying a monthly fee is frankly unacceptable. Also for the record alarms used to be hooked up to the phone line to notify you without internet, now you can get alarms that connect to the internet and also have built in sim card for backup communication. until it has limitless local connectivity to home assistant natively without internet access so that I wouldnt have to pay a monthly fee to use the hardware I paid for in good faith its dead in the water for me For perspective look at it this way, with this system the minimum subscription is £9.99 a month a 2 sensor kit that is free to use costs £299 and a 4 sensor kit that requires a £9.99 a month payment just to function costs £419. thats a difference of only £120 base price meaning after 12 months it would have been cheaper to buy 2 separate 2 sensor alarm systems than it was to buy the single 4 sensor kit. 18 months for the 6 sensor and 25 months for the 8 sensor
