WE HAVE OFFICIALLY CUT SOME SOYBEANS. Well....a small amount of soybeans at least. It was a good thing that we took the combine out, because there were a few kinks that needed worked out before we hit the ground running. Based on what Andy and the crew are seeing, just about every soybean in the county is going to cut starting next monday. Thanks for tuning in!
Andy is a 6th generation farmer from Central Illinois. On this farm, Andy works alongside his father, Marty, his uncles, Chris and Jeff, and his sister, Katie, to grow corn and soybeans on some of the finest dirt in the world. Andy and his family are deeply rooted in the area, operating a large farm that traces it origins back into the 1800s. Although some tracts did not stand the test of time, Andy and his family still grow corn and soybeans on fields that have been in the family for longer than even the oldest members of the farm have been alive. We do, we have, and we always will take tremendous pride in calling this piece of paradise our home. Andy was a Bronze Tablet graduate of the University of Illinois in the field of Crop Sciences, following the same path as his father and late grandfather.
It would be misleading for Andy to claim that this life is one that came by chance; rather, as a member of two multi-generational farm families, it was simply in his blood. His passion for agriculture traces back to his early youth--some of his fondest, earliest memories being of days spent riding in the combine with his father and grandfather. Although his understanding of the lifestyle was much less complex in the beginning, the love he has for farming, and its industry has only appreciated through time. As this dream blossomed into adulthood, Andy now works relentlessly, and tirelessly, to chase his own dreams and to build a farming operation of his own alongside his family.
We, as a whole operation, are handymen, electricians, mechanics, landscapers, accountants, economists, caretakers, stewards, and, most importantly, farmers, and we take an incredible amount of pride in our work. There is no challenge too overwhelming, no situation too stressful, and no problem too difficult for us to take on, and we want to take you along with us. Welcome to our farm and welcome to our lives. You have the best seat in the house to watch the everyday chaos of farming unfold--we usually only get concerned when things aren't going wrong!

Hello Andy, I'm a new subscriber courtesy of Ron & yourself from his Hartung video. I live not too far from you in the MO Bootheel in Kennett, MO. We used to mainly raise cotton here, but extreme low prices last year & this year forced our local farmers to switch over to soybeans and/or rice. I grew up on & around both of my Grandparent's farms. I hoped to take over one or both of their farms when they retired, but it wasn't meant to be due to my age. One retired when I was 12 & the other when I was 15.

Steve, it’s nice to have you here. I’m very sorry to hear about your missed opportunities. Life can be tricky like that sometimes. It sounds like farming in MO can be an interest venture. All we have ever grown is corn and soybeans in my lifetime. It’s what our ground was made to do-it seems. I appreciate you stopping by and hope to see you around.

Slower moving combine equals higher yield. Great video I learned a lot.

Great video Andy, enjoy your harvest! few things more satisfying than bringing in the fruits of your labor. Question on the 670 grain tank extension. Have you seen any issues with the tank loading auger with that extra grain weight on top? Thanks

We’ve never had issues with that, but I know that is a very common occurrence. A few bolts have gone missing in the hinges before. That was an easy fix!

From the first overpass south of mattoon’s south interstate exit to the next overpass, we farm both sides of the road. Drive by after a big rain sometime and check out our swamp field.

Our corn is definitely harvestable, but not where we’d like it. All of our soybeans are going to go this week.

We started Saturday as well, pulledoff hoping beans are a lil dryer today,

This time of year can turn them fast. One day they’re 20% and the next day they’re 10%.

@@aTrippyFarmer we are not super pleased with the yields, pushing 6 weeks with no rain fall has dinged the beans tremendously, harvesting 60bpa on ground that usually runs 75+

Tim Westendorf I am a little disappointed as well. Massive variations across fields with some of our lower, black ground performing worse than the lighter hillsides. I am not sure if too much rain early caused the most damage or if it’s related to the dry weather at the end.

@@aTrippyFarmer I hear ya, the yield monitor runs from 90 to 45 depending which end of the field, or drowned out spots, the yield map looks like a child colored it with the whole box of markers lol
