Power Station - amzn.to/3YW5Jfj
CPU - amzn.to/4fZrpgW
Motherboard DDR4 ver. - amzn.to/3AAisu9
GPU - amzn.to/4fXWUYI
DDR5 RAM - amzn.to/3yXXipa
Power Supply - amzn.to/46ZJJT1
CPU Cooler - amzn.to/3WZJgeU
Fans - amzn.to/4dyfaWV
SSD - amzn.to/3XevndT
A gaming computer that can run on a solar panel. It's a dumb idea. But a fun one! In this video I will try to build a very energy efficient PC, which in theory could run from a 100-120W panel and still play Cyberpunk 2077, Counter Strike 2 and Minecraft. Just strech your imagination in terms of what can be called "run" and "gaming")

You can get rid off the AC to DC efficiency lost by eliminating the normal ATX psu and by using a DC-ATX psu instead. HDPlex is known for making this kind of psu.

Great breakdown! I've been thinking of doing something similar to use in the family cabin. The panel is smaller so my best plan so far is to cheat and use a laptop with a decent cpu and hook up a gpu to that, and enclose it.

so two things: 4:28 Thanks for making this part. I was actually banned from a computer building forum (BuildAPC reddit) for spreading misinformation. I told them that using a higher wattage power supply will lower your system's efficiency. Here, you proved I was telling the truth. Using a 300W gold PSU to save 40 watts is pure genius!!! 15:49 For the next generation of computer parts, can you-- get a cameraman? I want to watch you set up the entire solar panel and the battery/inverter setup. I want to see the machines being plugged in. A few more diagrams couldn't hurt. All of the footage was filmed at a computer desk. I want to more outside thanks!!!

No it's not a bad idea. I plan to live in a motorhome and do a full solar setup with inverter and batteries that will last 12 hours and do around 800w solar charging. All I'll have to do is take a break from gaming every few days or run a generator once a week or so. New ryzen cpus come out with 65w. Oh right yeah and I'll be running it all through my UPS power backup to regulate it. Any sudden loss of voltage/amp or wattage spike and the power backup will kick on, so I can keep on gaming for another 20 minutes.

According to XDA, Snapdragon 8 gen 3 has a peak wattage of 17.37W. So hypothetically, using pc emulator like Winlator or Mobox you could play games even more efficiently on android device. Of course, provided that they will work in the first place.

чудове відео! If I make a video like this, I will attempt making these approaches: -Those motherboards from Aliexpress with integrated CPU from notebooks. -Same motherboards from Aliexpress but with the laptop version CPUs AMD 8600G or 8700G -Potentially utilize passive cooling for the CPU. -Since you are decreasing the PCIe gen on the M.2 NVME, then you can use a less power hungry one. -Also to use one of those mini low consumption PCs with an external graphics card via thunderbolt or an m.2 port adapter. Best,

I had a pc that had a 5600g and rx6600, both stock and with 2 new 1080p monitors the total system power + monitors and peripherals was around 130W at full load. Couldnt believe it for the performance. If you want to do solar just build a low end pc like yours or mine and just add another panel rather than scraping for every watt. Alternatively a laptop would give better performance at that amount of power too

Yeah I've got a 7840HS + 4060 laptop and this thing often only needs 50W to max out simpler games at 1080P 90fps+, I don't see why a revision to this build couldn't use a 40-50W pwr limit + Undervolted 4060 + 15W 8700G/8600G with again more undervolting, iGPU disabled and all the mods done here to further cut power with reduced speed DDR5 + voltage. Shame they went with a 6500XT because sure, it uses low power, but I honestly doubt the efficiency is that good given the age of the architecture and how anemic the core is.

Maybe the new AMD 8600G or 8700G and using the build in GPU might be the way to go. They probably outperform the throttled old GPU anyway. There are also mini PCs with 7840HS, 7840U, 7940HS and similar stuff but that's probably cheating as you would basically just buy a stock PC.

Because it has relatively high idle consumption, so there is no room left for the actual load. Open hwinfo on the desktop and check how many watts it is pulling. Mine is ~30w. In the video I used almost 2.5x less under load

@jd3666 4 месяца назад
I've noticed he likes to focus on ridiculous as opposed to useful. Right notice how this is not even a 65w pc build its a solar powered pc... your point about laptops is inadvertently genius because they run on DC power so the lower power loss due to no conversion means you could run a higher wattage laptop but you would have to do a video about how you attached the panel and laptop.
