I always thought Craven Edge was less substance addiction and more of Maslow's Hammer: "If the only tool you have is a hammer, it is tempting to treat everything as if it were a nail." Grog does violence, and nothing else. So he reacts to every situation violently which leads to violent ends for himself and those near to him. Craven Edge just encourages it.

Nah, I think it's a very flat description of Grog's character, if it was through then what he did to Pike would be brushed of and he would angrily start ranting about her getting in his way and it's her fault. He's not only anger and violence, if he were he would stay in the horde. He resists Craven Edge multiple times but then it cost him sleep, health and as soon as he uses it he suddenly diffrent person riding a high and happy only to become panicky and miserable when there's nothing to feast upon. If it doesn't sound like alcoholic or a druggie to you then I'm glad you never dealt with them.

@@mrksimka1159 But the sleep loss that you mention is from when Travis wanted to see what a "full" Craven Edge would do. It wasn't compulsion, like with {Redacted}'s {Redacted} in Campaign 2. Hope you can figure out what I mean without doing any spoilers with that last comment. It still seems more like a cult leader or an extremist radicalizing an impressionable individual for their own ends. Grog enjoys violent behavior, he's literally fueled by rage after all. Craven Edge pushes that thought process to an extreme.

@@mrksimka1159 Except when he uses craven edge and goes into that state it isn't fully grog in control, craven edge is also in control, it's a cursed weapon for gods sake. comparing an actual entity with the ability to actually control it's wielder to actual drugs and alcohol is stupid. We'll get an actual addiction problem in the might nein story aka campaign 2

I didn’t notice either until I read this. Probably should’ve, though. Grog is literally “chasing the dragon” which is slang for drug addiction.

He's a theater kid, literally. He was in Le Miz.

He sang on broadway as a child so ye, he has a lot of singing talent, among other talents.

Not just a singer too. He and his brother-in-law literally write and compose all the songs. One could argue he's an honest to goodness real life bard. Oh, and as he often jokes about - he's actually an emmy (daytime) award winner.

I think we all knew he was good, but there's a difference between good and GOOD. And this is when it really sank in with me how GOOD he actually is.

Theres also a hidden meaning yet to be explored in the show, and most likely would end up being a season 3 or 4 thing. SPOILERS More importantly, his mother. He lost her so horribly, and just like how his safe word is mommy, while a funny joke in the moment, really underscores who scanlan eas revealed to be and just how bad it was for him as well. I seriously have hope that they do scanlans meltdown against the group when they revived him justice. Was one of the best moments in the campaign.

Exactly. Things are similar enough so those of us familiar with the campaign can get the moments we're excited for but different enough to keep us guessing too.

I don’t think the events are all that different at all. Just condensed and rearranged to match the format.

People keep saying the story is deviating from the source material, but I don’t think it’s nearly as much as they think. It’s just being adapted into an animated series with 25-minute episodes. There’s gotta be some rearranging.

@@Arkatox I get that. The source material also tends to run 3-4 hours an episode and the fights play out pretty long thanks to how the combat system works. Being able to streamline the fights is already amazing, but the Chroma Conclave arc still lasted *45 episodes.* I know there has to be some rearranging. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing or anything. In fact I love how it’s being streamlined to better fit the greater narrative that ended up happening as opposed to the DM having to adapt the story on the fly. Scanlan gets Mythcarver anyway, so letting Percy get victory over the sphinx by guessing his name and then handing it off wouldn’t have been as satisfying (also the way it’s done here is so far looking like great setup for Scanlan’s arc, which I love for my favorite character). All I really meant by “deviating a bit” was that I don’t recall Pike dying during the streams. I know she died back in Pathfinder, but I’m very surprised she even came close here in the animated show. I know it won’t stick (especially since she’s with the two people best qualified to save her without Keyleth), but it’s still surprising.

We know Uncle Wilhand is supposed to show up, Played by the Fonz, himself, Henry Winkler, so, I think that's where Grog will take Pike

@@HannahBanina In the fight with the sphinx, Grog gets sent through a portal to the Air Plane, where he would drift endlessly if he didn't throw Craven Edge with the chain of returning to try and catch something and pull himself back. The thing he ended up catching it on was Pike, running her through. The moment in the animated show was not out of pocket or much of a deviation really at all. :)

Pretty sure it's because they pause so they don't miss anything rather than talk over like a lot of channels.

Yea, if I recall correctly the Sphinx had some kind of challenge for the group and they ended up going into a bunch of different portals to find certain glyphs? And though Grog stabbing Pike is still a thing, it happened in a totally different way from how they showed it here.
