A Sonic Fan’s Perspective of The Super Mario Bros. Movie 

Which would you prefer? Super Mario Bros. Move 2 or The Legend of Zelda movie?

I will NEVER understand the negative reception this movie got from critics.

I would give the movie a 10/10

The Mario Bros Movie for Illumination is my favorite movie of all time, and I can tell there’s a lot of heart put into it

Fun fact: When Mario was flying with the leaf power up, he was spinning his tail like tails from sonic

The Mario Movie was good, it met my expectations the references were fun the plot was as much as any Mario movie could do, the voices were not as bad as people say and it was very memorable

I watched the movie myself and I thought it was great. Jack Black as Bowser was outstanding!

Those same lessons should apply to movie or TV based video games going forward if there are any, and they especially need heart and soul put into them.

My life was complete when I watched the Super mario Bros. movie I enjoyed every single thing about it What makes it better was that the super mario movie came out a few days before my birthday

Smash Bros movie with Sonic and everyone else would be dope

While I do like both Sonic Movies more because I'm biased and have more experience with Sonic, I still did like the Mario Movie a lot. I've been trying to get into Mario for a while now, and I think this movie finally motivated me to check out some Mario games and content. I'm pretty happy to be a new Mario fan, and I hope to have a lot of fun within the Mario community. I hope the Mario Movie sets up a good future for video game movies...

I have to agree with your ranking on the Mario movie, it is better than Detective Pikachu and slightly better than Sonic Movie 1. However, it's nowhere close to Sonic Movie 2.

This movie was really good and I loved it. And your discussion about video game movies moving forward descriptive and I agree with a lot of what you said about them.

I wasn’t expecting much from the Mario Movie at first, but I did enjoy watching it. I’d give it a solid 8/10 with my only complaints being the fast pacing and the very simple story. As for whether I like it over the Sonic Movies, it’s hard to say. Both sets of movies go for different presentations which makes it hard to compare them fairly. At the end of the day, I like both the Mario and Sonic Movies and look forward to their inevitable sequels. Also I agree about what you said about video game movies in the 2nd half of the video. It’s important for them to respect the source material and the fans of the series they’re based off. Whether you go for live action or animated, it depends on what direction you want to take the movie in. And yes, please keep political and social issues out of movies. I watch movies to have a good time, not be reminded of real world problems. That’s why I’ve stopped watching Disney-based movies and shows a long time ago.

The Super Mario Bros Movie can be summed up in one word: Fun!

I also gave my thoughts on the movie not too long ago. It did the source material justice imo thanks to the faithful art style, fanservice, music (not counting real-life pop/rock songs) and characterisation. I feel like the critics were being way too harsh on the movie when they called the plot thin when this movie isn't supposed to be too deep. Mario's never been deep.

Overall 9/10 movie, I'm not that big on mario so I'm a little biased towards sonic. Ps, your awesome Tony! :D

My mom, little brother, and I all went to see this movie, and it was great! Even to her considering she has no background knowledge to Mario's games. And that's why i think it did so well. It made a video game open to everyone, fans or not. They threw in easter eggs and references that were more eye candy than actual plot necessity, while still allowing non-fans to understand what's happening without missing something. 9/10 movie imo.

The first video game movie was actually from 1986, and it was another Mario movie. It was the Mario anime movie, which is pretty good. However, Miyamoto actually preferred the 1993 live action movie over the 1986 anime.

Watched it last week and I absolutely love it now I'm debating between this movie or Sonic 2 Really the only thing is as much as I love those movies they are painfully predictable

I loved the Mario Movie. I do agree it felt a bit too fast, and wish it was a bit longer (and had a bit more Luigi). I’m still excited to see what Nintendo and Illumination do next, whether that be a sequel or adapting another Nintendo franchise. I have faith that Illumination can do some really good adaptations as long as Nintendo keeps working with them

By the way, when you were talking about the whole thing of why it doesn't matter weather they're live action or cgi; there is one movie that you didn't mention that proves you're point. The Ratchet and Clank movie; it's fully animated and it's trash

Mario movie is 8/10 for me, while I love it, it didn't live up the hype

My only compains from the movie is that it is fast paced sometimes and Cranky Kong's voice isn't the best. And my opinion on it it's 9.5/10 movie.

I was meant to see the movie yesterday, but due to me being unable to sleep that night, I canceled going and stayed home to get the shut-eye I needed. I didn't managed to get to sleep until 7:30 in the morning. So I might not watch this video until I watch the movie.

To be honest i really like the movie from the various refrences to the games to Jack Black's Bowser, it was awesome. Also you're doing a ERAWW video on Kirby and the Forgotten Land? That's cool, maybe afterwards you can do ERAWW with Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe and Kirby' Dream Collection Special Edision.

Thank you Tony for pointing out the woke crap trend in movies because I wholeheartedly agree with you 100% i have a massive bone to pick with that crowd while I do respect the LGBTQ community the woke crowd doesn't do them any favors with forced representation on preexisting characters theres a reason why those movies are failing and im happy to see that Mario and Sonic have not fallen to this garbage trend lik like DC and Marvel have which as a massive superhero ticks me off to no end this woke trend in media needs to stop because it does Hollywood no favors im going to see the Mario Bros movie myself and I'm going to have a fun time.

I'm afraid I won't be joining this stream until I watch the movie, because I want absolutely NO SPOILERS. But for the meantime, my perspective on this one is 10/10. Peach is actually a ruler of a kingdom, as opposed to a damsel in distress, Jack Black as Bowser did a good job voicing Bowser, then the amount of references, like Bob-omb Battlefield, Sand Kingdom from Odyssey, the famous Rainbow Road; basically everything I've seen on the trailers, and I SO look forward to seeing it as soon as possible. Just one thing I hate, I got used to it, but it still bothers me a bit as a Mario fan and a lot of other Mario fans: Mario is no longer Italian. :( Putting that aside, it's just, **CLICK** "Noice".

Hold up!! Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist forgettable? It was actually decent. Sure it was a webisode series but it was no dumpster fire compared to the 2 live action attempts before it. Beside that, mostly fair review Tony.

I’m very late but after finally seeing the movie yeah I agree with most things you said I do wish the movie was longer and had the characters do more like I was really hoping for a little arc for Luigi to break out bowser airship with the others you could have him succeed or failed I don’t really care as long as it’s done naturally and I really wish Bowser would’ve send some mini bosses to stop Mario and the gang like boom boom and the rhino boss but that’s just me. But hey it could be a stepping stone for the sequel and who knows maybe they’ll pull a dream work and the sequel will be great but maybe I’m sending my expectations too high so we’ll see and if it works really hoping we get Punch out F-Zero and even EarthBound beginnings movie even if the odds of that happening are 0 i’d be hype if they do it and especially with unique animation and art style then OK I should stop before I get too deep into this great video by the way

Even though i like Sonic a lot more than Mario, i will admit i definitely enjoyed the Super Mario Bros Movie more than the Sonic movies. I got chills all the way.

Though I also think the movie is good, another problem I have that I think people don’t talk about is Mario’s argument with Donkey Kong. It comes straight out of nowhere and the way DK makes fun of Mario being ridiculed by his dad is a REAL dick move from him. A wasted sense of closure all around.

The only pre-Sonic video game movie I can think of that wasn't awful was Ratchet & Clack but even that was kinda redundant because it's apparently canon to the rebooted game which was also a retelling of events from Qwark.

I think saying that SPOILERS Bowser is trying to win the heart of Princess Peach is a spoiler. Yes we all know that’s his goal in the games, but before the movie came out there was not a single trailer, clip, or tv spot that revealed this. I know. I watched literally all of them. They literally edited lines to remove this Trailer Not sure if you know who I am but I’m about to rule the world but there’s one problem. There’s a human. Has a mustache just like you Movie Not sure if you know who am but I’m about to marry a princess and rule the world but there’s one problem. There’s a human traveling with my fiancé. Has a mustache just like you. So yes I would consider that a spoiler in my opinion. I know even as a die hard Mario fan it shocked me.

Sounds like it's a good movie, I sadly haven't watched it yet but with what your saying and the audience score sounds like I'll enjoy it, I just hope the FNaF movie won't flop But only one thing I wonder, What makes Boswer think that capturing the star will win Peaches love? Great video. I really did enjoy this movie. It's now my favorite illumination movie as well. Despicable me now being my second favorite. (Hop is still the worst one for me though that movie really sucked). Also I'm going to be honest. The Mario movie from 1993 is one of my guilty pleasures. Don't get me wrong it's a bad movie but I get unironic enjoyment from it and keep laughing from how bad that one was.

I actually saw this in theaters, in 3D glasses And the 2 problems I have with it are, The pop songs , like is there a rule that you have to include at least one pop song Or the movie wouldn't sell well? I mean you have Koji Kondo, the man who composed the music of Mario, the man you have hired for this movie to compose music for, Nah let's throw in a pop song. Number 2: the original composer of the DK rap, grant kirko wasn't credited in the credits, Like what the hell? He directed the best/worse songs in gaming history and he wasn't credited, That's kinda disrespectful to him, Other than that, the movie was solid, except for those 2 things

The Mario movie was definitely pretty cool. Although, like you said, the pacing really could use some work because almost everything in the movie felt rushed. Also, I kind of wish some of the characters in the movie were a little more accurate to their game counterparts, like Peach acted like a literal Karen throughout almost the entire film. Overall, the movie was definitely a success for all Mario fans to enjoy. It's about time that Illumination finally made a good movie for once (although it was probably just because of Nintendo being over their shoulders for this one).
