Why do Liberians identify themselves as “a particular party” similar to a tribe or religion instead of saying I vote for “CDC” or I vote for “Unity Party” and so on? Copying American party identity is dangerous for developing countries in Africa. Is party identity becoming a new tribe or religion in Liberia? People should have the freedom to vote for any party they want. However, it seems in Liberia party membership has become new religion or similar to tribal identity, or gender identity instead people having freewill to vote whichever party one wants to vote for. Identifying oneself as a party is becoming too divisive, and it sets the stage for dangerous political divisions in developing countries that are not capable of curtailing these divisions similar to many ethnic conflicts in Africa. Mrs Weah was absolutely right by saying that she is apolitical because her “City of Hope” is for all Liberian children regardless of party affiliations. Liberia is a very small country where everyone should have the freedom and freedom to choose whomever they want in office regardless of party affiliation. Party isn’t a religious or tribal identity.
