I was born in 1945. This film is near and dear to my heart. It's the best version. It has the feeling and soul of the old Hollywood. Sat in many a darkened theatre and watched the best movies ever made on the big screen. It was magical. I lived across the street from the cinema. Would sometimes spend the entire day watching a film over and over. My mother would sometimes have to drag me out.
Still the best of the bunch. Janet Gaynor's career at Fox was built on roles like this. She gets excellent support from Fredric March, Adolphe Menjou, Andy Devine and especially May Robson. With Wild Bill Wellman directing and writing and Max Steiner's music, it is one of the best tear-jerkers. The movie's success helped pave the way for "Gone With the Wind" two years later.
Still the best version. A lot of the scenarios in this film still ring true in 2023. The ocean scene is tragic and Fredric March is criminally underrated as an actor.
'Gramdma' was 'Aunt Polly' in the 1938 film Tom Sawyer. That movie was made by Selznick Studios as well. The background score is so similar in both these films. I love both these films and never tire of watching them. Thank you for sharing this movie. 🙏🏻
Excellent movie, thank you for sharing it with us! I was captivated, don't allow the age of the movie to keep you from watching this 5-star movie. It's in color as well. Rotten Tomatoes gave it 100% and that never happens.
_Wow, my dearest Helen! Look to the screen: "A Star is Born"! Well, this star is 86 years old nowadays, but still shines like as on those Good Old Days! Janet Gaynor & Frederic March have glow enough to much more than a century on Cinema! That's why this old amazing movie worthwhile indeed to be seen here on CCC movie chat at live! I hope that you enjoy it, my Sweet Helen from my heart! God bless you always, Forever and Ever!_ 🤩🤩🤗🤗❤❤❤❤❤❤
@@helenpoornima5126 _Hi, my dearest Helen! I hope that everything is going very well with you in the Enchanted Kingdom of Tamil Nadu! God bless you always!_ 🤩🤩🤗🤗❤❤❤❤❤❤
Really great point made on how UGLY the press & propaganda mill makers are made in this movie that may be overlooked among the other points of this movie. Grandma could be looked at as a great pioneer women OR one of the worst stage mothers ever too. It's all how you look at it. Norman chose career over his health. Wife was willing to chose him & his health over career to save his life - after all they certainly had the wealth by then anyway. Interesting perspectives depending on where you are in your own life on how you look at this story.

Warner Bros. acquired the rights to the 1937 version just before making the 1954 version. Although it was a pre-1950 film under WB ownership, it was not part of the package of films sold to Associated Artists Productions (a.a.p.) in 1956. Ironically, two years later a.a.p. was bought by United Artists, the original distributor of the 1937 version. This version ended up entering the public domain in 1966 after WB did not renew the copyright in time.
1) check the channel homepage for upcoming live premieres 3 days in advance. 2) Check stories for the next upcoming live stream 3) Or members only playlist for films that will eventually published Hope that helps
That’s Clara Blandwick as the nagging aunt in the opening scene. Two years later she would play “Auntie Em” in THE WIZARD OF OZ. And 17 years after this, Judy Garland would play the Janet Gaynor in the 1954 remake with James Mason.
@@johnpickford4222 Never miss the chance to insult someone while correcting them, huh? I've checked and yes, it's very early technicolor. It looks bad enough to resemble colorized movies.
